  1. Single has had a bit of airplay here in Perth and the song has really grown on me. Saw him interviewed on Graham Norton this week and what a nice bloke.
  2. I just don't like the word and the stigma attached to it. I fell out with another person, the fact he is my Dad is irrelevant. Will agree to disagree with you on this one.
  3. I fell out with my father about 4 years ago and I have no intention of having a relationship with him in the future. I do not consider my family is dysfunctional. Just because someone is related doesn't preclude you from having a disagreement.
  4. Well as a northerner I have never heard it referred to as Margs, only here.
  5. Born in Preston into an RAF family so have lived in Melksham, Malta, Brize Norton, Huntingdon. Parents divorced and then moved to Carnforth nr Lancaster Married and lived Ealing, Flitwick, Sawtry, Wilmington (USA), Calgary, Halifax (Canada, not Yorkshire) and finally Perth.
  6. I guess its possibly because the people I may mix with are more BCF type people and more likely to head North than South. I've only ever been there once and whilst it was OK I wasn't compelled to rush back.
  7. Does anyone really call Margaret River 'Margs' I've lived here 12 years and never heard anyone refer to it in that way.
  8. My clothes smell lovely, perhaps not the same as the UK but my youngest always gets complimented on how she smells. She doesn't wear any perfume to school so I can only deduce it's her clothing. I use Omo liquid tabs and Comfort Vanilla Orchid Aromatherapy fabric softner. Neither are the cheapest end of the laundry spectrum but I have to have nice smelling washing.
  9. You may be entitled to claim but don't bank on it being a liveable amount. I had to claim last year after a separation and it was poverty levels amounts I was entitled to. Personally I wouldn't be moving here to WA at the moment, the situation isn't great.
  10. I watched it and thought you came across well which some people really don't. Although I did laugh when one of you complained one of the houses you viewed was too small given that your home in England is a tiny terrace.
  11. You are lucky you weren't subjected to a thousand proof of ID questions hiring a car on a UK licence. I have always found it easier to rent a vehicle on my WA one.
  12. No Argos equivalent in Australia.
  13. I get Newstart allowance and FTB which cumulatively come to $1500 a month. As a single Mum with an unemployed ex husband this offers me just enough to pay my household bills excluding my mortgage and minimum payment on my ever dwindling credit card. I am on the proverbial bones of my backside. I am not sure how people qualify for more than that.
  14. $578 a fortnight is hardly considered paying very well. Not sure how I am expected to run a home on that!!
  15. I have met people like this too, usually accompanied by some narcissistic tendencies. I steer well clear to be honest and would be polite but would never let them enter my closer friendship circle as their ability to cause trouble and destroy relationships is phenomenal.
  16. Change the plugs yourself, even I can manage it. Don't be tempted to use adapters. I have a friend who used an adaptor for her tumble dryer. It set on fire and damaged her garage and her insurance wouldn't pay out.
  17. Indeed, as someone who is currently on the bones of their backside and relying on handouts cheap primark/kmart clothes for my child would be a godsend!! Snobbery at it's best here.
  18. My 18 year old bought a whole wardrobe full of stuff at KMart 2 summers ago and it's all still fine. Hasn't fallen to pieces yet.
  19. A friend of mine has 2 daughters at NBCS and she also rates it very highly. However, I agree with other posters when they say go and have a look around and see how you feel.

My daughter's school has streaming and other than the academic extension group the classes have no names.
  21. Agree, the ex spent 2 years working in The Hague and the Dutch are odd. Lovely country though, shame about the people!
  22. Why those suburbs? Try Currambine or Connolly too. Currambine has it's own station and Connolly close to Joondalup, walkable for some of the suburb but excellent bus service from the rest. Fantastic primary school too.
