what has the uk got that australia lacks

I am amazed at some of the comments for people wishing to return to the uk and their reasons.

I may have lived here all my life, but I cannot wait to get out of the uk. The main reason is our crap weather. You can never arrange any day trips/bbq's/holidays etc and cannot rely on weather reports, the result then being bbq's in the rain etc.

Beach resorts in the uk are vile. Murky cold sea, beach full of hideous fatties eating chips, crap weather again and amusement arcades!

As for the benefit system in this country, I have worked full time without being out of work at all for 26 years. I have paid my way into the system and resent paying for all those lazy bastards with whom the government think its okay to pay huge amounts of benefits to. I support any country who doesn't dish out money and makes people work for a living. I fully intend to pay my way into the system in oz and will make every effort to ensure I stay in employment.

As for family. I only have two members left. One I am not too concerned about if we see each other again and the other will spend a couple of months a year in oz. I have absolutely no doubts in my mind that I will make as many friends in oz than in the uk. All my friends have said they will visit, but if they don't, it won't affect my life. As long as I have my lovely husband, I won't need anyone else.

I have been to oz 3 times, I know that I feel more at home there than I do here. I am sick of working my arse off in this country to pay for the benefit scroungers.

As for seasons - you can bloody keep the cold weather. Not interested in cold dark days - bbq on the beach for xmas will suit me fine. As for history - is that really a reason to return home. Every country has some sort of history if you look for it.

You can keep the royal family as well. Inbreds!!

on an oz not there was a spitfire squadron based at strathpine (near brisbane) one went down, and killed the pilot in 1943--my mates wrote a book about it,and made a video--it funny when people relate to the spitfire,as in the battle of britian--it well served its purpose in defending australia from the japs---minehead is about an hours drive south west of bristol--just west of weston-super-mare-did you know that clevedon near by has the second highest tidal flow in the world (47 foot spring tide) and you can surf the river severn boar in gloucester where i live in the UK--not exactly bondi beach but the same feeling:wubclub:

First time I saw the Cliftonville Suspension Bridge I was amazed that such a deep gorge could exist right in the middle of the city? As high above the river as the Sydney Harbour Bridge but you are not aware of it until you get right to it???

I've heard of the Severn Bore - prob seen it on the news here as surfing is such a big sport.

Ah well, you will love Australia.

Me, I have just escaped from it, thank God, and am back where I belong, in awe of the countryside (even the 4 year old DGD commented on how very greeeeen it was!), connecting with the locals (more casual chats in this past couple of days than in the past couple of months in Aus). Two beautiful days weatherwise (bugger about the humidity though, it plays havoc with the hair!). The kids have been able to play on beautiful soft green grass and pick daisies (not enough of them for DGD1 who wanted to make a daisy chain!), pick apples off the tree and not have to worry about codlin moth and see some very cute little birds (finches and robins) as well as giggle at the way the squirrels move with their tails undulating behind them. Only down side for me is the too narrow car parking spots and my inability to order a weak long black coffee successfully (and the bloody Aussie cold which has blossomed into full blown here and which sees me up in the middle of the night!!!)

I was thinking of hiding the DH's passport but he took control of it once we were out of the airport (bugger!)

PS, if you want a country which doesnt shower people with benefits, dont come to Australia - we have just as many welfare bludgers as anywhere else in the world with a welfare state!

Yes sir, and of course sea barra. That's a no brainer. What do you prefer to eat fish wise?

For me, the fingermark bream=spotted scale sea-perch= golden snapper is tops, followed by the coral trout, threadfin salmon, bluey=black-spot tuskfish then the mack attack clan.

Fingermark.

Try and pop down to The New Forest for me, Quoll. I'd like to know how it's coping without me. It's the only thing I really miss.

I like the Royal Family - it's part of my history whether I'm living in UK or OZ - she is Queen of OZ too after all.

I hate republicans and the ones who want to change the flag.

An Australian republic with one of those ghastly green and gold flags would be an excellent reason to return to UK!

Ive got to agree with some of what suzie says. It would be brill to be able to plan days out and other things ahead without bad weather ruining it. The otherday the weatherman said we were to get sunny around 21oc so i thought woohoo maybe ill get to wear my summer clothes and then when i woke up it was dull and horrible lol didnt clear all day! So the shorts stay in the suitcase till next week lol

It's Devon and Cornwall I was more thinking about when I slated the beaches - I live in Somerset, so easy reach of them (although I choose not to bother). Never heard the term picklestabbers, but like it!!

St Ives and the beaches around the coast there are stunning. Honestly, its clear water, golden sand and hard to beat in the UK. I think the advantage of Cornwall, the southern end is the coastline allows for lots of little coves tucked away so you can find some real gems beachwise and only be sharing them with the seagulls.

I agree the beaches in Cornwall are lovely.

You won't find a Norman Abbey (sitting on a rock separated from the mainland by a man made causeway) off the coast of an Australian beach.ClickHandler.ashx?ru=http%3a%2f%2fwww.cornwallcam.co.uk%2fbestofsouth%2fMount201201.jpg&coi=372380&cop=main-title&c=speedbit.2.aff05&ap=1&npp=1&p=0&pp=0&pvaid=3313fa802d024486b893a70573ec3658&ep=1&euip=203.208.100.216&app=1&hash=739F0F66B66B30450622A6D76DAB0CAB

My favourite beach in England is Holkham Beach in Norfolk

and the Pembrokeshire coastline of Wales is stunning too:

Sometimes I really don't understand what some people are talking about.

You live in Somerset and call the coast near you tacky?? I suspect you don't get out much.

What about the Jurassic Coastline, a World Heritage Site, all the way from Exmouth to the east? If you find that tacky, not sure what else would actually please you, or you're just completely blind to the beauty that surrounds you.

I like beaches whether they are in England, Australia or anywhere. The two I grew up with in England - Lepe and Calshot in Hants - would probably be scorned by Aussie and Cornish alike for their lack of sand - just stones I'm afraid - and used to be heavily polluted but I love them!

When I'm on one of the Sydney Harbour beaches - Rose Bay yesterday, Shark Bay @ Neilsen Park on Friday - looking over at the North Shore reminds of me of looking over to the Isle Of Wight. If you can't see out to The Heads you could imagine you were on the shores of a lake. OK, OK, so neither the Romans nor the Normans colonized Sydney's North Shore but I don't care. The Aborigines would have been there BEFORE either of them!

People can be very pretentious about beaches too - used to drive me up the wall in England 'you're NOT going to Bendiorm are you? That's not the REAL Spain. It's FAR too touristy (as if the Spanish aren't tourists too in THEIR summer holidays!) My last hotel in Benidorm was 99 per cent Spanish familiies. I must admit I wished I was in a Thomson 'guaranteed 100 per cent Pommies hotel!'

They probably say the same things about Bournemouth and Bondi come to think of it, as if no 'local's would actually live there!

Quoll, if you don't mind me asking, how long were you living in Oz before returning to UK? Was the decision the most difficult part of the whole process? Love the description of the squirrels' undulating tails!

They don't have fatty chip eaters in Oz, they are all beautiful like on neighbours....they don't have arcades either.....oh or benefit scroungers. You can bbq all day long and spend Christmas day on the beach....so life will be fantastic.

I'm amazed at the comments people give for wanting to live in Australia:biglaugh:
