I think i must have a that Pompey homing beacon too then ;) Sydney for me...i hope

I know that they finished NMIS printouts about 8 years ago and i've only done 11. Would i have to used my JPA printouts and payslips?

Well it was described as a NIMMIS print out by our friends but that`s probably just a showing our age thing - basically if you fill out the subject access request and you`ll be sent the print out.

Hmm my payslips say what my sea time is, though I'm not sure how accurate they'll be as we all had our sea time consolidated when we went to 'ship away from the wall' time! I had 12 years worth some years back. Still waiting for a labour agreement which seems to be taking its merry old time especially as most on here seemed to get theirs straight after their TOS - which I've had.

Hi everyone, glad to hear everything seems to be going well for you all.

'Ironduke' - hope your Labour agreement comes soon.

Steve has managed to get everything done and passed for the RN medicals requested

We are just a bit concerned about the colour perception tests. He went to Specsavers and had the eye tests (passed with 20/20 vision) they also did the 'Pseudolsochromatic Plates test' (passed with no errors).

On the colour perception test form there is also 'Farnsworth Lantern test' (Specsavers and no other opticians we've asked in Plymouth so far, do this test).

Our question is :

Having passed the 'Pseudolsochromatic Plates test' do you still need to have the Farnsworth Lantern test?

Can any of you remember whether you did the 2nd test as well (Farnsworth Lantern)?

It says on the 'documentation required by applicants chart' :

Colour Perception Test Record - Required for applicants that have not previously had their colour perception tested.

Steve did have his colour perception tested on joining RN and passed it, he thinks it was just the Pseudolsochromatic Plates test - so it's probable he doesn't need to worry about it at all, we're wondering whether you only need the Farnsworth Lantern test to determine a detailed level of colour-blindness if you fail the 1st test.

Just want to make sure everything is there that should be there before sending it off, as he's off to sea for a while and it would be a real ball-acher if a job offer was put on hold because of something silly missing in the medical pack .

Thank you in anticipation of your help

Hi LIz I just asked my husband about the second test and he said he did not have to have it done. That test is for Pilots only, my husbands eye sight is very bad and he got through it all ok. He even got it wrong when he went to see the private dr and they still passed him. So dont go worrying. Glad everything is going ok

Ironduke how r things going mate have u heard anything yet. I would suggest you ring Terry George he might be able to put ur mind at ease. I dont know if i told you we had to wait 5 months, and it was a nigytmare waiting but it will turn up in the end. Everything was a mad rush for us when it did finally turn up we only had 7 weeks to sort everything out, mind you it helped with the stress there wasnt time for any.

Liz its a pain in the bum getting the lantern test done their are only a few sickbays do it i.e raleigh and drake, however every MA in the fleet knows how to do it so if i was him id grab an MA befreind them and get them to sign it off for him, failing that give me a shout im still friends with most of the MA's down in drake so could always give one of them a ring for you x I will be seeing most of them sat at a wedding so ill ask one of them to do it xxx

Hi all - don't worry about the lantern test, I came across that and nobody does it any more. Just for interest it was a test they had you do if you failed the normal colour perception test, my medicals have long gone through without the lantern test so forget about it.

I emailed about my labour agreement and it all has to do with the immigration service, not RAN so if their workload is high my agreement will be delayed, so at least it will be useful for others to know that it has nothing to do with the RAN. I hope everyone has a great weekend and we stuff it to the krauts on Sunday.

Cheers

Thats very true its not really used for anything anymore it used to be used for specialist pilots, however for some reason people still ask for them (even people that are not pilots) most of the sickbay staff can do them but the only ones i know of that use them alot at raleigh dartmouth and plymouth careers office, bizzare

Liz steve (mine not yours lol)did one but i dont know why unless they are planning on flying the submarines

Hiya.

I didnt bother getting my colour perception done when i did my medicals. I spoke the MO and gave her the form, but she said, dont worry about it as your colour perception is in your docs anyways and on the front cover of your docs. I had to photocopy everything anyway and i saw it for myself.

Specsavers was a nightmare and i had to have them drops in which make you blind for 2 hours.

5 months seems ages for your labour agreement. At what point do you put your notice in then? i hoping that i can hold on so that i've done my 12 years at the point of leaving, that way i'll get at least some kind of pension....that is if the defence review doesnt significanlty alter it!

You do right to at least hit the 12 year point - get what you can. I haven't been waiting 5 months more like 3 weeks, just seems most on here got theirs in a week, but no stress - it'll come. When do you put your notice in? Once you've got your TOR's I suppose you are pretty much in so go for it then, with the caveat that you pass all that immigration want and that there isn't any political or defence upheaval that might have them withdraw their offer. I do know the RN is accepting early release more easily now - saves them cash in redundancy I suppose, we'll see.

Cheers Iron.

Ive just been reading all the various timelines and it seems that some people have waited 4-5 months from sending off their packs to receiving their TOS.

Just wondered what everyone elses timelines are/were.

Thanks Carolann, am so glad that's his Med's out of the way

That Mutley solicitor sounds good - will remember that.

We got our initial application and certs done by our friend, she's a police officer - I felt like I was taking the mickey though, poor girl signed her name so many times - gave her a bottle of wine as a thankyou. Will 'hopefully' have to ask her again when we get to visa stage.

Lol i wish steves CO has done everything apart from Birth certificates, marriage certificates and Copys of passports which can only be done by either a just of the peace (robbing gits) or a solicator (why cant i spell that, i have no idea but you know what i mean lol)

Hi all,

Due to go on terminal leave end of 2012 after 22 years as a CPOWEA Submariner and have been in touch with the RAN via the website. Advice was to get back in touch June next year when I will have 18 months left.

I am single and own my own house here in England. Am wondering what I will be entitled to regarding accom when I go over there and how it all works. Will be selling my house here but not sure what to do with all my stuff in the house. Will also be selling the car but taking my motorbike with me.

Any thoughts on what is easiest?

Also what will the minimum length of service be for Australia citizenship?

Are there any snags with me being in reciept of my RN pension due at the end of my 22?

Apologies for the all the questions but there a few things I need to be sure about.

Cheers,

JW.

Hi if i was U I woulg get in touch with Terry George again they are crying out for submariners out here, it can take up to 2 years for eveverything to go through, so U need to get the ball rolling, by the time ur out the mob u will be on ur way here, hopefully.

We have just met a single lad who came here 3 weeks ago he has just got a 2 ed apartment in Bondi, the navy out here pay a lot of ur rent, as for ur stuff furniture bring it with u the navy pay for it all.

Your bike is a bit different, I know one person that had there car bought over and said it wasnt worth it they paid a lot of money. My husband bought a brand new bike here.

You will get ur Citizenship within a few months, u need that to go to sea, that is paid for by the mob here. And u will have to sign a contracy for 6 years used to be 3 but they have changed it.

Has for you pension my hubby did 23 years in the RN and leaves his in the uk, and we also sold our house and that money is still in the uk.

I think i have answered everything you have asked at the mo, Hope all hoes well , anything esle just asked

Anita and Dougie

Frontstunt,

I intend taking my motorbike, you can take one as a personal import if you are a Aussie citizen OR intend settling there, I'm not sure about the costs but you do have to have owned it for at least a year. I asked the question on other forums because of the high cost of buying (new or second hand) a replacement bike in Oz. I'll post the answer once I start getting into the process mate.Anita has given good advice, any money including your pension is none of their concern except for their taxman - I believe there are plenty of threads on here about money but the long and short of it is that it is a very good deal over there - you keep your sea time from the RN, they have a great pension scheme which doesn't require 22 years from you and the basic wage I will be getting after a rank drop is more than I was getting as a chief!

Thanks for the replies. The more I hear about it the more attractive it sounds.

Terry George can't do much until I am in my last 18 months. I'm just going to learn as much as I can about the process in the mean time.

Cheers,

JW
