  1. I've been here in WA 33 years this week. Now we're retired (a little earlier than we planned due to Covid) we're looking forward to spending some time travelling around Australia.
  2. The Pumphouse is somewhere I'd love to stay, have a wonderful time.
  3. You can buy Wensleydale here, even my favourite one with Cranberries.
  4. I spoke to the IR today and they will only send a cheque to a nominee (my sister). To be honest I haven't been worried about bank charges.
  5. Thanks Ken, it's good to know about that option. I think as this is a one-off I'll resort to asking family this time.
  6. I have recently received a tax refund of 325 pounds from the Inland Revenue. As I haven't had a UK bank account for about 30 years and they wouldn't deposit the money into an overseas account I asked them to send me a cheque. However I now find out my bank no longer accepts foreign currency cheques. I was hoping not to have to use a family members UK bank but are there any other options?
  7. If the areas you mentioned are in your budget then that's where I'd be looking, especially if you will be on call. Subiaco and Daglish are also close by and I've worked with lots of medical staff who lived there as they worked at KEMH and the old PMH.There are several private schools over in Clarement/Nedlands and the traffic is usually heavy at school drop-off and pick up time so something to bear in mind. I don't think that public transport to the hospital site is particularly good, everyone I know whose worked there has driven in. I can't imagine there being a huge drug problem in City Beach, it's still considered a very expensive area but according to someone on here there is a drug problem in every street in Perth .
  8. Fortunately the OP mentioned he has been to WA before so will recognise your comment for the ignorant generalisation that it is.
  9. You don't need a travel agent, decide which airline you want to fly and book direct with them. I don't think you'll find any cheap flights for a while.
  10. I'm not sure if the Perth immigration office issues passports anymore - we have to renew ours by post.

This forum is fairly active, it might be worth asking your question here: https://thegreynomads.activeboard.com/

A lot of grey nomads have self-contained vans and free camp, we recently bought a motorhome off an elderly couple who travelled extensively and rarely stayed in caravan parks. Apps like Wikicamps and Geocamps can help you find areas where camping is allowed as well as nearby facilities.
  13. I am not 'ignorant about it', I've worked in healthcare in Perth for over 30 years (including RPH) and am quite aware of the drug and alcohol problems here, thank you. I'm just not obsessed with it as you seem to be. This is the last response I will make to any of your posts.
  14. Oh for God's sake, I know plenty of people with teenagers/young adult children and strangely none of them are meth addicts!
  15. 32 degrees in Perth is quite a pleasant temperature these days, the last few summers have been stinking hot. This summer we had 13 days above 40 degrees.
  16. I don't think the Pilbara would be the easiest place to relocate to but plenty of people do it for a short while.. Have you tried searching on Google or Facebook, there might be some groups where you can find out more from families actually living there?
  17. Isn't it based on the valuation? I sent my sister some earrings and had to pay tax on them, they were sent direct from the shop so I wasn't able to change the valuation price.
  18. We have recently bought a motorhome. It's built by a UK manufacturer and has gas heating
  19. Have you looked at sending it with a freight company such as 'Pack and Send'? It won't travel with you but will be much cheaper.
  20. We've only stayed in the city once and that was at Circular Quay which was great, and easy to get to other areas.
  21. I buy most of mine from Mountain Warehouse, a UK brand with an Australian website, very easy to return or exchange if needed and good prices. Otherwise I have a look at the Aldi snow sale, surprisingly good quality clothes. I used to buy from Katmandu but I really don't like their clothes any more.
  22. Of course Australians move to Perth to live, the resources sector is full of them who've moved from other States. Parley has absolutely no idea about Perth.
