  1. We're hoping to retire to the Huon Valley next year but finding a property is going to be tricky as it's very popular and real estate sells very quickly. Property in Tasmania has been increasing markedly in value over the last few years, it's no longer the cheap State especially around Hobart.
  2. I have lived in Perth for 30 years and the only time I see Perth's isolation mentioned is on this forum! Most migrant's to Perth just accept it's a long way from Sydney and Melbourne and instead enjoy the close proximity to Asia for travel opportunities.
  3. I know it's sealed but there'll still be red dust - there always is . I have been across by Greyhound coach many years ago.
  4. Yes, but you've lived and worked in the Outback and probably don't mind roughing it . Driving on my own through red dust for hours on end doesn't appeal, I'd be worried about my attention wandering.
  5. I have never driven it and certainly wouldn't do it alone. You need to do some research before you consider it, you will need to carry extra fuel, spare tyres, food, water. There are long stretches between roadhouses. We may drive across next year but I am reluctant to take my 2 dogs, I think they will be more comfortable flying.
  6. You realise you'd be driving across the Nullabor Plain, are you experienced in driving in remote areas? If your dog has already flown from HK to Melbourne then the flight from Melbourne to Perth shouldn't be a problem for him.
  7. Well you know, the stuff people post on the internet isn't necessarily true . I take the comments from certain posters with a large grain of salt
  8. Do a Google search for excess baggage companies, it will be much cheaper
  9. I think it's time, I just hope that people are cautious and there isn't an outbreak and have to close everything again.
  10. Unless you have access to the Business Class lounge which is fabulous
  11. No he wasn't on Jobkeeper, you'd have to be on a pretty low wage to be better off with it.
  12. We are very fortunate compared to other States and countries but I'm sure the hundreds of people who lost their jobs and can't pay their bills do not describe it as 'normal'
  13. I don't consider not being able to travel to to other states for a holiday normal and my husband not working for six months is distinctly abnormal!
  14. Third party Insurance is included in the your car registration, most drivers would have comprehensive insurance.
  15. Great news that you've arrived I work in the CBD Tues - Fri so if there's anything you need, send me a message and I can arrange to drop it off for you.
  16. Houses are still selling well in the Perth Hills. If our early retirement plans work out we'll potentially be selling 3 properties in the next year (1 is a deceased estate) and buying in Tasmania!
  17. Something that I have seen at work
  18. The number of people arriving into WA recently has actually been been well under the 525 limit per week.
  19. Airline Facebook pages are always full of complaints even without a pandemic. I usually use Skytrax to check reviews: https://www.airlinequality.com/airline-reviews/qatar-airways/
  20. I wouldn't rely on Qantas flying internationally anytime soon, there have been suggestions that they might not start until 2021.
  21. Qatar have continued to fly throughout the pandemic, they’re a very good airline. I wouldn’t consider booking with anyone else
  22. Etihad no longer flies to Perth, stopped last year I think
  23. There were 8 new cases in WA one day this week, all people returning from overseas. I think restricting the numbers is the only way to manage it right now
