  1. All these Utopic pictures are lovely but take care everyone it seems to be taking a turn for the worst although it will be denied venomously by a few http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/uk-weather-travel-live-updates-latest-news-flood-motorway-motorways-road-closures-accidents-a8129611.html
  2. Well done.....sounds "truly fantastic" where you are, our family in Yorkshire have said it was ruined by the weather "far to mild" were there words
  3. Just read (in the Indy ) 12.6C was the highest temperature in England on Christmas day that's shocking!! You may have well been in Melbourne with temperatures like that, so much for 4 seasons they just seem to merge now, although I think officially it was a white Christmas because somewhere in Cumbria and the Scottish borders had a flurry, how nice.
  4. I read the Independent daily strangely it's hard to avoid the British news.
  5. I'm thinking of winning the lotto
  6. My Doctor here is from England, of Indian descent but born and raised In England. He loves GP work but said what was expected of him in the UK was ridiculous 60-70 hr weeks with the prospect of every other weekend as the practice he worked at was being forced to open at weekends. He's loving it in Australia he can work set hours at a busy practice which he enjoys and acknowledges the better lifestyle available is beneficial for him and his young family. It's sad that professionals that are passionate about there work are having that passion stifled by ridiculous working conditions and cuts to budgets, the NHS will end up staffed by migrants (not knocking them) and all privatization will achieve is a lowering of standards. We have two family members who work in aged care (NHS) one has over 30 years service, in the last couple of years all the NHS aged care homes in our area have been privatized and staff forced to TUPE over to a company called Care UK the way they have been treated is shocking they have been forced to take up new T&C's, lost current pensions, had pay cut considerably it really is sad to hear them talk about it.
  7. They will chase it and eventually pass on the debt (which will increase significantly) to a debt collection agency and your credit rating in the UK will be affected, after 6 years without contact the you will get a clean slate so to speak. Personally If it's the only debt you are leaving behind I would pay it better not to burn any bridges.
  8. Make sure you check your flights if you plan on leaving the the gloom for Christmas, the bad weather has hit again http://www.independent.co.uk/travel/news-and-advice/flights-winter-mayhem-manchester-heathrow-flybe-british-airways-easyjet-a8117586.html
  9. The NHS can't stop making the papers http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/nhs-jobs-posts-labour-warning-empty-winter-jonathan-ash-worth-a8116771.html You can understand why nurses move half way around the world to work in better conditions.
  10. Not many cities tend to cater for older clientele it's all about the youngsters, when out in Perth at the weekend I like to get out of there by 11PM as it becomes the same as any other city/town rowdy and full of idiots. Fremantle certainly hasn't lost any of it's vibe, I get to Freo a lot and it's always buzzing and has a great feel to it, although still plenty of idiots if you look for them.
  11. Unless its changed you need to be able to prove you have a deposit (3 months bank statements) and the means to pay it (secure jobs) pretty easy really.
  12. Some people are just home birds and do not settle when out of there comfort zone the location is pretty much irrelevant.
  13. From todays papers http://www.independent.co.uk/news/health/virgin-children-health-service-contract-nhs-privatisation-mps-warn-drugs-healthcare-lancashire-a8105606.html
  14. I did note that when I read it and surely its the outcomes that matter most.
  15. You really can't see what is happening in front of your own eyes can you, which is a shame because if you refuse to see it nothing will change and the cuts in funding and decline in service will just be allowed to continue. Not sure where you see the benefits of privatization goes completely against the whole ethos of the NHS. Aged care is being sold off and some of the outcomes are pretty shocking there is no compassion in business.
  16. Lets remember this thread is about the state of the NHS though we know how much you dislike taking a thread of topic so lets not worry about the Australian system, you could always start another thread if you are bothered about it Ranked No1 service in the world depending on which list you are reading today, Melbourne is also the best place to live in the world apparently! Don't be naive enough to believe everything you read. If you feel certain parts of the NHS should be run by private companies and you are happy for that to happen you really have no understanding about why it was founded and for what reasons, you will have a system based on the US before you know it but like I said maybe not in your lifetime.
  17. 'we must remain diligent' it's pretty obvious if something doesn't fit your rose tinted view of everything the UK has you will choose to ignore it, major changes are already starting to happen in the NHS. Maybe not in your lifetime but certainly your childrens the NHS will see massive wholesale changes in the way it is run and delivered. But she'll be right eh.
  18. It Is never going to be as good as the US or UK versions Oz is just to vast and un-populated for that. Should be good for those in the major cities though might give the local retailers a kick up the backside.
  19. I blame global warming I know Mr trump will deny it though, an English winter is supposed to be frosty crisp and fresh it's a shame the English seasons just seem to merge now and people seem to be actually glad about it! I used to love frosty mornings as a kid.
  20. I'd go a bit further the whole Busselton to Esperance coastal stretch is amazing.
  21. Enjoy your trip Perth is ever evolving as a city, it's changed in the time I have been here and continues to grow the CBD won't even compare to Sydney totally different vibe much more laid back. Make sure you head to Freo great day and night and usually something going on. Margs will be stunning because it is stunning. We are down there between Christmas and new year for a few days relaxing.
  22. You have to be honest with yourselves if the weather was that good in the UK you wouldn't feel the need to post pictures of a blue sky when it occurs. I spent about 35 years in the UK and from memory the weather was pretty crappy the majority of the time not all the time though there were nice days I remember them well everyone put photos of them up on social media
  23. Rubbish lol drizzle is a British tradition!
