  1. Hi Magda, If you are ACCA you will get 15 points. Experience will count from the point you would have been eligible to satisfy migration assessment (either through degree or professional qualification). For accountants there are no current invites for 189, and for 190 it seems 75 points + 5 points from state sponsorship is required. Note it seems that most invites are for those with experience. For boosting points suggest you share your current breakdown, but I am not optimistic for accountants at the moment.
  2. When we arrived I got plugs from Bunnings and got swapping over, though we have also been transitioning where possible. Also this has only been on smaller items and no white goods (well one small telly). Guess I might accelerate this change now I've read this. BUT if it's illegal to change a plug in QLD why do Bunnings sell them with instructions on how to change and no warning?
  3. I think you might need to check with an agent - I have in mind that the cut off for dependants even in fully time study was adjusted down to 23. @wrussell I seem to recall that you had previously provided information to another poster on this topic - is the above statement right?
  4. Looks like 143 has moved to 20th April 2015 and 864 to 27th October 2016
  5. It really does seem that the humidity of Brisbane is a really personal thing; we've been here 18 months and barely used the air con at all this summer (though hands up when it was bad it went straight on). We found that we acclimatised very quickly, and in particular exercise seemed to help with that. I've been working in Singapore and find the humidity there so much worse that Brisbane feels like a dry heat now!
  6. My kids, although young were born in the UK and travelled a lot in Europe before we moved so they do have memories and thoughts of what were their favourites. At the moment NZ tops the list, so works out well for us.
  7. But did you read the bit around what made the kids happier?
  8. Out of curiosity why does Perth seem to drive the most negative reactions from those leaving to return to the UK? I get Melbourne and Sydney where people have come on an adventure rather than permanently migrate, but there seems a real bitterness about Perth where people have moved with families - and a lot of comments that simply don't match with my experiences since we arrived in Brisbane (though we are still two year noobs) What's the reason? And why do so many move to Perth in the first place?
  9. However cities like Barcelona and Paris do zero for me or my family...... Conversely for us we can be in Auckland in 3 hours from where we are and the kids are far happier on a trip to NZ than Europe
  10. Hi there....without getting stuck into the Australia vs UK argument one thing that jumped to me was trying to avoid getting stuck with your kids settling in Australia. As they have dual citizenship hasn't that horse already bolted to an extent in that they could all move back here as soon as legally entitled? I appreciate that you need to do what's right but trying to avoid getting "stuck" when the kids have the passport anyway doesn't seem a good reason to me; quality of family life, happy family etc. yes, but not parent concern about where grandchildren may be born
  11. No move for the 864 vs last week, looks like they are alternating with the 143
  12. For the 190 sharps with experience at 75 ÷5 they are still inviting (think NSW), suggest a focus on getting the extra 10 points for language asap!! Good luck!
  13. Just got the email reply, 9th April 2015 for the 143 and 30 September 2016 for the 864 ?
  14. I think it is at point of case assesment, but they cut off there is 23/as long as still in full time education. Not sure if an apprenticeship is outside of this, might be worth speaking with an agent for advice on this!
  15. Still waiting at the moment, but has the benefits of being onshore father than visiting. They have also been out of the country but needed to apply for a different bridging visa via their agent at the time. The 864 should be quicker due to fewer applicants, but they did seem to freeze for a period and have only just started moving again. Good luck
  16. I think it depends on circumstances, fory parents the offshore wait didn't work so they went 864 with bridging visa. If others are under 65 or want certainty before the move then the 143 makes sense.
  17. I have no experience of your sector, but any engagements I've had with agents has always been remote with no detriment to the quality of advice. The agents that post regularly on this site are a good start
  18. @Alan Collett it looks like asking has had a response, queue for 864 has now moved forward 3 weeks to 30th September 2016 ?
  19. Thanks Alan, A shame that they can't provide clarity on this and a bit frustratinng. Alongside Accountants for the 189 (no invites for anyone for 4 rounds, even 80 pointers) it feels like the rules are being changed without being told they are changing ? Oh well back to wait and see and thanksfor your follow up!
  20. I love the Sunshine Coasts; we were married there, we have holidayed there and my parents now live there. We are in Brisbane, but would love to move up if we could. But you own two businesses in Melbourne, and seem to love it, so why not stay with what you have built and enjoy trips up North? I would normally say go for it, but it's a lot to change; would you prefer the heat? (I was down for the Cricket on Boxing Day and found Melbourne really cold); would work be available / as good as you have done? As said I would move there if I could, and although I work flexibly need access to the CBD. Good luck!
  21. Hi @Alan Collett wondered if there was any update on the 864 processing times? Many thanks
  22. I am a big fan of Wynnum / Manly, and it is a lovely area, and we have been here 14 months after the obligatory period in the Brisbane Holiday Village. The train is not great, and although I would be happy to cycle to the CBD I am conscious that I am confident in traffic, etc. and would not recommend as standard. In terms of weather, we do use our air con, but not so much as we are near the esplanade, and windows open usually suffices. Personally I would struggle moving into an inner suburb now as I am very happy and acclimatised where I am, which happened oddly quickly. There are a lot of expats in the area which can make it easier to get involved in plenty of activities; for my wife and I sports, for my parents bowls. Best of luck, and hope you find the right spot for you!
  23. Sorry to be direct, but with 70 points for accountant you will not get an invite this year, and likely not next. At the moment there have been no 189 invites for accountants for 4 rounds, and the 80 pointers are backed up, so even once it starts moving again you will be down the queue. I personally have an issue with the process for accountants as you don't need experience, with up to 10 points available for study in Australia (5 for study, 5 for regional study) and I feel it is being abused. However until they change the process I recommend working out how you can add points to get to 75 for 190 or 80 for 189. What is your points breakdown to get to 70?
  24. I think some of the state sponsored visas require a job offer. If you have contacts on the ground and relevant experience to the industry then may give you more options; I was a 189 so out of the area I had researched. I think a good MARA agent will help understand your options. Also note that with the agents you don't need face to face, it can work perfectly well remotely.
  25. Another option to consider with the agent it what avenues exist for state sponsorship if you had a job offer through your contacts. For finance here my experience is that for mining they want mine experience, so it's difficult to get into, and with your background might be worth considering if viable. I am not up to speed on the latest options for state sponsorship, but whilst accountants is crazy at the moment I do not know if many have a formal job offer to come to so that could be an edge ;-) Good luck!
