  1. Yes already aware it will hold temporary residency status. That isn't an issue as they will automatically become residents when we become residents (they automatically get what the parents have. Already sought advice over this) As for waiting, that would have been ideal. But these things happen. Our life cannot be put on hold because immigration waiting times are ridiculous. Bearing in mind this time last year it was a 4-6 month wait and now it is 12-15. We will have almost satisfied the visa twice over by that point. Thanks for your input and help everyone
  2. I have reciprocal only. Getting mixed reviews from various websites as birth is classed as 'emergency' which is covered with reciprocal (this is what my friend who is a GP obstetrician says anyway). I have full cover for pregnancy with NIB but it only kicks in at the end of October and my due date is looking to be the beginning of October!!!!!
  3. Hey guys, So the story goes, I am on a 489 visa (skilled regional occupation). My husband and I are both from the UK and we have satisfied the visa requirements and our 887 visa is being processed. However, there is a 12-15 month wait. We have another 12 months to go. I just found out I am pregnant (my husband is a pom too). So realistically I am going to give birth whilst still on a temporary visa so the baby will also be a temporary resident. My main concern is whether medicare will cover the birth as I have read it can cost $10,000 just for a normal natural birth (no complications). Just after feedback from those who have given birth that aren't residents and what their experience was and what costs they had to fork out during the pregnancy, during birth and after birth Eg children's vaccinations etc. Also is it straight forward to inform the government that we are expecting? Is this done through immiaccount where the 887 visa application was done? Help!!!! Thanks in advance
  4. I would be careful. If you have a child born overseas, you have to apply for a child visa and it can take up to 18 months to get the child living in australia with you. As you are a temporary resident and resident for tax purposes only, if the child is born on australian soil that child will automatically be put on the same visa as you. https://www.sbs.com.au/yourlanguage/italian/en/article/2018/08/01/if-your-children-are-born-overseas-they-do-not-acquire-your-pr
  5. My friends didn't. As a primary applicant I haven't been asked to do the IELTS again but on my immiaccount they recommend that my husband updates his proof of english via IELTS so time will tell
  6. Hi guys, I am really confused and hope someone can help me. I started a new application for an 887 residency visa through my immiaccount. However, I have gotten to the end of the questions and the only option left for me to do is to submit the application. Great, I hear you say...however, at no stage whatsoever have I been prompted to add supporting documentation such as proof of address, proof of work, identity etc etc. My friend applied for her residency 4 months ago and said she was prompted throughout to add supporting documentation. She also said she had warnings before she started that she should ensure she has all her supporting documentation ready and that if it was not attached her application would face delays. I have had non of these warnings. If I click submit, will I then be prompted to attach documents?? I am worried that if I click submit, that will be it, but then there will not be evidence for my case. Thanks in advance for your help PS I have signed the petition.

  8. Hi Sarah, Usually they want rental agreements and proof of bills ie electricity/gas/internet/telephone. Do you have any of these?
  9. Applying for an 887 visa is really simple through your immi account. Don't waste money using an agent!!! We haven't used one. All my friends who have gone through the process themselves have been granted PR.
  10. Question re-pregnancy on temporary visa. We arrived in Australia 2 years ago on a 489 temporary skilled visa and we are about to submit for permanent residency. The processing times for an 887 have recently changed from 9-12 months to 12-15months (it just keeps going up and up and up!!!). I purchased private health insurance when we first arrived in the country (Oct 2016) and last month we added pregnancy cover (12month waiting period for this to come into effect). My question is, on a temporary visa, are we covered through medicare on reciprocol cover? As I read that those on a temporary visa can face $10,000 in medical bills just for having an uncomplicated birth!!! This process is driving me crazy. I am 30 and we are desperate to start a family. It seems we have to put buying a house and starting a family on hold until we have residency otherwise we get stung. We are both hard working, in the top tax bracket, paying heaps in taxes and the wait time grows and grows!! Thanks in advance for your help
  11. I assume you have seen the new laws didn't go through? So it is still only 2 years, not 4
  12. Thank you so much for getting back to me. This puts my mind at ease a great deal. My brain was going into overdrive.
  13. Visa grants slow down this time of year. I will keep my fingers crossed that your occupation isn't removed from the skilled list on 1st July. Good luck and stay positive
  14. Hi everybody I'm really starting to panic and may be doing so for no reason. I'm hoping I've got the facts wrong and that all will be okay. I'm on a 489 visa as a Dentist and have been living in a regional area now for eight months. I have also been working for eight months. I had it in my head that sounds long as I work a minimum of 35 hours a week for 52 weeks in those two years then I will satisfy the visa requirements. Now here is the thing. I am classed as a contractor. IE self employed dentist. Now my hours are Monday 9-5 Tuesday 11-7 Wednesday 9-5.30 Thursday 8-5.30 Friday 8-5.30 and the first Saturday of every month 8.30-12 sometimes till 1 if really busy. A friend of mine seems to think we have to be classed as employed for those 52 weeks. Is this true? All dentists are classed as contractors. So I don't understand how I could ever meet this requirement? I have also just been advised by an Australian dentist who is involved in law, that technically dental contractors, in the eyes of the taxation Office, are classed as employed and so I should technically get sick pay and super. But that's by the by. I think it is all a grey area. All I'm desperate to know is, will my current situation cause problems for me getting PR. Put it this way, I recently went to purchase a car. The corporation who I work for refused to write a letter of employment because I am a contractor and therefore 'self employed.' And without the letter I couldn't have the car. So if they are being this anal about me applying for car finance, I highly doubt they would help me in a visa situation.
  15. I'd like to follow this post as I am also on a 489 visa and will be applying for an 887 in the future. I wouldn't have thought you would need to repeat IELTS again after passing first time round. That just does not make any sense to me.
  16. Hi Vicky There is a poms meet up this evening from 5.30 at the coast. We are meeting in the back room Only just logged back on and seen your post. Apologies x
  17. That's what I meant as I'm on the 489 visa hoping to get an 887 PR visa two years from now. Worded it incorrectly but what you said is what I meant. It's just we have made entry and have decided to crack on from the offset for the two years and apply for PR as soon as possible
  18. Wow. They've changed the rules since I had to present then. I had a principal registration letter that was valid for a year! I just made sure I had a new police check and certificate of good standing that was within the three month validity period before presenting. I had previously opened a bank account with nab 10months before I left the UK (you can open a migrant bank account up to twelve months before you enter Australia) and then when I arrived in Sydney, I went to the bank to get a stamped letterheads paper with my colleagues address on who I was going to be living with until I found a place. I wonder if you could use a friends address in Perth? Or maybe use the air bnb address and make sure they save any correspondence for you until you next enter WA or forward if back to you in the UK?
  19. I was just about to agree with the above. Having met a newly qualified teacher this weekend just gone, she said its a tough market. This is in the mid north coast of nsw in Coffs Harbour. She said it is common not to be given a permanent contract and for teachers to be casual. For example, she is on call all the time as an English teacher. She gets up at 7am every morning just in case she gets a call to say she has to be at x y or z school for 8am due to a teacher being ill etc. So she can go days without work or sometimes be lucky and get a full week. However if she went inland to broken hill, she would find a permanent job no problem. If you are willing to go to very rural areas, your partner should be okay. And yes, you would be on your partners visa. Another thing to take into consideration is that if you are on a skilled regional visa and you want permanent residency at some stage, one of you needs to prove you have held a job for 52 full weeks of at least 35hours a week worked within a two year period. Which may prove difficult if work is so irregular. Good luck where there's a will there's a way
  20. I'm glad we didn't agree to sign up to that show. We were approached but it didn't fit in with our timeline of getting to Australia. Can't say I've watched any of the series.
  21. My fiancee and I moved to the Coffs coast in October 2016. Anybody else new to the area who fancies a meet up? I'm 28, my fiancee is 29. We're happy easygoing people. Be nice to make some new friends
  22. Hi, My fiancee and I recently moved to Australia (Sept 2016) on a skilled regional 489 visa. I'm thinking ahead to when we can apply for residency once the requirements are met. We both have full time jobs, both self employed. We moved into rental accommodation at the end of October. Here is my query. We have no contract with the landlady. She is a family friend. However, we are living in her property and we are paying her rent weekly. This is in cash and includes bills. So we inevitably have no proof of rental. All we have are our letters that are addressed to us from the bank, our private health fund etc. When the time comes, along with all other documentation to prove our relationship (we will be married by the time we apply for residency) and proof of employment etc, will it be enough to have letters addressed to us from the bank and a letter from the landlady stating we have been living with her for the last X number of months? Or is it best to find a rental property through an agency in our own name? If we can avoid moving that would be even better as we are settled where we are. We just don't want there to be any set backs because we don't have utility bills or rental agreements Thanks for your help
  23. Because my occupation was taken off the skilled occupation list for Australia so I have had to get a regional sponsorship. I had 65 points but got 10 more because my skills are needed in that region
  24. That's actually not a bad idea at all. Perhaps the British embassy in Sydney as I've heard you can get married there. Just a couple of witnesses and then a big party back home. Thanks for the tip. We hadn't thought of that :-D
  25. Sorry, correction, it took 5 months. EOI 10/08/15 visa granted 18/01/16
