  1. Just did mine a couple of weeks ago in Brisbane. It too two months between the test and the ceremony
  2. Hi. Yes she got Australian citizenship last just a few weeks ago
  3. No its not true. My wife has got triple citizenship (oz/UK/Portugal)
  4. Check with the insurance company but it sounds like you have already identified the policy you need although you need to check if the policy is still valid if you don't have a return ticket. I tend to avoid taking out one of these policies directly with the car hire company themselves as they are generally an extortionate rip off
  5. Bioinformatics is more related to using computational tools to solve biological problems in particular genome analysis so you could try one of the 'life science' occupations. Dont think its on the SOL though- May be worth investigating if state sponsorship is available?
  6. Try walkabout creek at The Gap. Peaceful, safe, wonderful!
  7. Hi On the immigration website they provide a pdf called 'Australian Citizenship- our common bond' and they tell you which sections they will test you on- you don't need to bother with anything else- the test is really straightforward. What you are more likely to come unstuck with is providing the right documentation as some of the stuff that was acceptable for the visa application appears not to be acceptable for the citizenship application. For example if you need any documents translating from a different language, make sure they are performed by a registered Australian translator, and also your birth certificates need to include the names of your parents now apparently (my old one from the 1970's didn't)
  8. No fees as far as I am aware but on a 457 you wont get any rebate on out of hours schoolcare should you need to use it
  9. I like the gloworm caves at Springbrook with all the fireflies darting about. Truely amazing
  10. Many congratulations!!! When we moved we set up our Oz current account with WestPac from the UK and they were pretty good to be honest. Personally I would never transfer money directly through the bank as you will get a much better deal using a currency broker. I have used both HiFx and Moneycorp both of which have been really good.
  11. Date applied: 16/4/16 City/Council area: Brisbane Online / Paper: Online Date received the acknowledgement email: 21/4/16 Date of the Citizenship Test: 21/6/16 Date of ceremony: TBA Type of ceremony (Urgent/Normal): Normal
  12. If I did it again I would never come over here on a 457 with a family- found it too stressful when we decided we wanted to stay. Wish I had got PR prior to moving. Other than that i wouldnt have changed anything
  13. I live in The Gap and I love it. Very green and leafy and very good schools. Other areas you mentioned are also very good. If you get a job in the CBD I would probably avoid Belbowrie as the commute isn't great. With a family i would maybe pass on Toowong also- nothing wrong with the area but i think its expensive for what it is
  14. Worth mentioning there are similar gentrified/countryfied villages within a much easier commute to Cardiff eg Cowbridge and surrounding villages
  15. Should be ok to get in for 10. Is she doing postdoc at the uni or UHW? Bit quicker to get to UHW. Should be ok to get back for 3 (for Monmouth) but i would have a back up plan if she is struggling to get back for the school run. That stretch of motorway on the M4 seems to notorious for accidents....
  16. Its not too bad if you can commute off peak. Should take about an hour. At peak times the bit of the M4 between Newport and Cardiff is pretty horrendous
  17. When I joined Hesta I was able to apply and add my life cover later on
  18. Best to talk to a registered migration agent i think. I dont think anyone here could give a definite yes/no answer.
  19. You have a permanent visa and have the freedom of the job market. Your employer cant complain if you want to leave because they half your salary!
  20. Its all pretty quiet around there (and pretty). I really like Crickhowell.
  21. Hi Why are you looking outside what your credit card annual travel insurance offers? We've got car hire excess insurance included upto $3k (or might be $5k) with BankWest with no annual fee for the card
  22. We're eligible to apply on 9th April and I will put in my application on that day. Reasons? -long term commitment to Oz -not having to bother with RRV visas -peace of mind in case government decides to make any stupid rules that may be to the detriment of non citizens - access to HECS funds for kids
  23. Have used both HiFx and Moneycorp. Both have been very goof
  24. Migration Angels located on the Gold Coast are excellent
