3. No correspondence from immi for me as of yet. Application made on 20 April online perth
4. Iv just had the same it doesn't state anyting we dont already know from the media. The main points are: Citizenship applications received on and after 20 April 2017On 20 April 2017, the Australian Government announced the strengthening of requirements for Australian citizenship. On 18 October 2017, the Government proposed amendments to the legislation so only applications lodged on and after 1 July 2018 will be assessed against the new criteria, subject to the passage of legislation through the Australian Parliament. This means that your application will be assessed against the existing eligibility criteria for Australian citizenship.
5. What does this mean? Are they to be questioning the legalities of the changes the bill proposes?
6. Agreed what do you think the best way to do this would be?
7. Yes i received my new ammended one today. My application was paid for and fully submitted on the 20th, When there was no warning on their website regards these changes! I better receive a refund. The acknowledgement of receipt i received on the 20th april after making my application also didnt make and mention of these changes. see below. Acknowledgement of receipt of an application for Australian citizenship This letter confirms that an application for Australian citizenship has been received for the following applicant: harvey francis Citizenship applications received on or after 20 April 2017 The package of reforms announced by the Prime Minister on 20 April 2017 is the response of the Government to the National Consultation on Citizenship in 2015, which indicated strong support for strengthening the requirements for Australian citizenship. The package of reforms to strengthen the requirements for Australian citizenship includes: - increasing the general residence requirement - introducing an English language test - strengthening the Australian Values Statement - strengthening the test for Australian citizenship - introducing a requirement for applicants to demonstrate their integration into the Australian community, and - strengthening the Pledge of commitment. The Government has released a paper Strengthening the test for Australian citizenship outlining the details of the new citizenship requirements. This paper is available on our websitewww.border.gov.au The new citizenship requirements will apply to your application because it was received on or after 20 April 2017. Processing times The Department presently has a significant number of citizenship applications that are yet to be processed. Because the Department generally processes applications in the order they were received, there may be a delay before the Department decides your application. For more information about processing times, refer to: www.border.gov.au/about/access-accountability/service-standards/global-visa-citizenship-processing-times As your application progresses, you will receive further communication about the implementation of the new citizenship requirements, and we will contact you once your application has progressed to the next stage of the process. If you applied online, you can check the progress of your application by logging into your online account (ImmiAccount) on our website at: www.border.gov.au Changes to circumstances of the applicant listed in this letter You should let us know about any changes to your circumstances as soon as possible. This includes changes to your name, contact details, address or information about children included in your application. - For online applications, update your details by completing the online forms available through ImmiAccount. - For paper applications, contact the Department quoting your name, date of birth and Request ID. For a change of address or passport details use Form 929 - Change of address and/or passport details available on our website.
8. Based on what news has been released and what immi are saying, Yes as long as you submitted and paid before the 20th
9. I have just spoke to immi. My PR was granted march last year. I started my application prior to the 20th and completed it yesterday and paid for it. There were no warnings at the submitting stage regards the changes. The guy i spoke to said hes not sure if my application will go through or not. As far as hes aware there will be talks regards yesterdays applications and what to do with them. As it stands now any application made on or after the 20th and doesnt meet the 4 years will be declined. Then he went on to say "maybe i will get SOME of the money back" . Surely they will have to refund all of the fee ,considering they allowed me to submit and pay for my application without any direct warnings at the time of lodgement if this is to be the case. Not being able to apply for citizenship can have a large impact on some people. There are jobs i will now have to wait another 3 years to be able to apply for. 10. Hi i have recently been granted my 186 visa which i great. This was a transition from a 457 visa after 4 years with my current employer (5 months was working holiday visa). The employer (contracting company) has been great the whole time but now has only 1 project that pays about half of what i have been getting paid for the last 4 years. This leaves me in a tight position finacially as it just about covers my family of fours full outgoings per month with no spare money for emergencies etc. My partner was due to start a short college course soon and then uni resulting in us having to put one of the kids in full time day care which we now have no allowance for in our budget. I can quite easily gain employment with other company's which would fix our finacial issue. The only problem is it would mean breaking the (IMMI) agreement to stay with my company for another 2 years. My company may be fine with this im not sure untill i approach them, but there is a chance they may not be happy with it and contact immi if i were to do so. Before i approach them i would just like some info on what could happen if i were to leave e.g. IMMI's action if my company were to contact them and make their displeasure known? Has anyone on here been in a similar situation on this visa?
11. Dam that may be 5 points gone then looks like I might have to get that overall 8 then on ielts. Better get doing some serious revision!
12. Hi guys I am currently on a 457 visa. Electrician (A grade ATRC route) living in Perth. We want to apply for 189 visa as general electrician. From what I have been told I need to do; 1. skilled migration assessment for electrician and am in the process of booking/sending off docs. As ARTC isn't a migration assessment. 2. IELTS score test to help boost my points score of 8, or 7 when I turn 25 end September. (using Cambridge 8 and 9 for revision) I got a GCSE C at school. 3. EOI. (I may make a start on it now and not submit until ielts and skill assess) 4. A medical for me and my partner. (medibank) 5. Police clearances for AUS and UK. (AFP) for aus and( http://www.acro.police.uk/) for uk I have so far decided to do it without an agent I went ok with my 457 application so feel I would be ok with this. Will immigration class my working apprenticeship as ( see below text take from points test text)

Outside Australia: skilled employment in your nominated skilled occupation or a closely related skilled occupation

In skilled employment for at least three but less than five years (of the past 10 years) ?

Would appreciate any advice you guys have for this whole process!
