  1. I have just booked flights for my daughter and her friend to fly over in May, flying with Singapore Airlines, London - Brisbane £600 booked through Cheapticket.co.uk Bargain : ))))
  2. Hi, You have plenty of time to start gathering information, do as much research as you can, the Sol and Csol lists change from time to time, so keep an eye on them regarding the job you do, look at what type of visa would suit you best or that you would qualify for.You would needs to get your skills recognised,Maybe speak to a MARA registered agent, they generally give good advice without charging,we arranged skills assessment and few bits ourselves but used agent for actually lodging visa. I shipped all my furniture, simply because I liked it, if you do sell and re buy here the prices are not too bad if you shop around.I also shipped my two dogs over.
  3. We moved to Brisbane in January and the licence was a straight swap, no problems, very easy to do
  4. Good luck, Hope it all works out for you : ))
  5. Good luck, I'm sure interview will be fine : ))) Very exciting
  6. Golden Arrow were great, Their kennels are located in a beautiful area, when we arrived with the dogs, we let them run and play in the orchard for half hour before taking them into the heated kennel, which overlooked a lake,The staff are really lovely and I was satisfied that my dogs would be well looked after in their care,I have no complaints only high recommendations for them.
  7. Hi, My 2 small dogs arrived in OZ last month, a Jack Russel and a Yorkie/Jack x one of my dogs had separation anxiety from myself prior to leaving the UK. They both stayed with Golden Arrow for a few days before they flew. I anticipated that they would both lose some weight due to the stress so fattened them up a bit.I had them flown up to Brisbane where I collected them, they had lost some weight but otherwise seemed fine, they both settled in well within a couple of days. I think we worry far more than the dogs, I phoned the quarantine station in Sydney whilst the dogs were there and they said, both dogs were friendly and eating well, the amount of exercise they were given is dependent on breed and size.
  8. Forgot to add, you don't get the bargains here anyway near what you can get in the UK, so if you think something is a good deal and want it buy it before you come over.ie ;Tesco/ Asda duvets they are much cheaper than the same quality ones here, I bought some as spares,. We had to buy garden furniture as I didn't ship my wooden set, for the equivalent in the UK I had it was roughly half the price here, its all swings and roundabouts.
  9. Hi, I packed plenty of body lotions/creams, toiletries,Ariel washing liquid, I already had most of them when packing up, so I thought rather than give them away I would chance it. I really wished I shipped Sarsons pickling vinegar lol. I like to make home made pickles and to me this is the best vinegar. There is actually not much at all that you cant buy here. I think most stores seem to have an isle section that sells British goods. I had to buy, mop.. bucket brushes etc and lots bitty items here, but there really wasn't that much difference in the cost compared to the UK. I didn't ship alcohol, but you do have a generous 2 L duty free allowance,I bought 2 bottles of rum in Changi for £22 . On the Australian gov website there is a list of all prohibited goods food etc, may be worth you having a look, food wise I had things like Angel Delight.. Marmite... gravy, just stuff like that, mainly requested by family and friends I have already over here, think they only miss certain foody bits when they know they are getting a visitor from Uk lol.
  10. Hi, My shipment arrived November, I packed plenty of new toiletries cosmetics etc, I had no trouble. Apart from the obvious items you mentioned that are banned,You can bring most things, I scrubbed shoes bikes etc and had no problem.I now wish I had packed a few more items, esp some store cupboard favorites, still looking to find/try good substitutes, The gravy is not nice here so I packed a few Bisto Best, lol, only gravy my daughter likes : ).. My husband shipped his tools, he washed/ wiped all of them. If you are a savvy shopper in the UK then you will also be the same here, i've been here 1 month now and have already learnt how to shop and where the deals are, it is not as expensive as I thought.Alcohol is not cheap they don't do the same sort of deals here for food or drink like they do in the Uk. I bought lots of new bedding in the UK sales, this was because the size fit duvets beds etc that we were shipping over. I also bought lots of new shoes underwear and clothes, they are better quality and a lot cheaper in the UK. We had a sole use 20ft container and I rammed it full.
  11. I flew over recently with Singapore Airlines, they gave me an extra 10kg baggage allowance as visa was unused. I had to post over 28kg of items in 2 boxes, only cost £140.
  12. Hi, Yes fridge will be fine, I will Pm you my mobile no, and when your ready let me know and we will collect fridge
  13. Hi, Yes i am still interested, and can wait until that date, a pic would be great, I am in Bracken Ridge, are you near/far from there.
  14. Hi, I was granted a permanent visa 3 and half years after Breast Cancer, I took a supporting letter from my oncologist to the medical,I had no issue.I am not on any medication, but had the most aggressive form of cancer, I really did not expect to be granted, but more than happy that I was.
  15. Hi, Do you still have the fridge freezer, we have just arrived from UK and had to leave ours behind, I have a small one so am looking for a larger size fridge freezer
  16. Hi, I collected my dogs from quarantine last week. I was very anxious the whole time they were away from me.The youngest dog had separation anxiety especially when away from myself.I phoned quarantine whilst my dogs were there, they reported that both my dogs were friendly, eating well and playful, they said staff play with the dogs and the amount of exercise they give them was dependent on size and breed. We uses a pet shipping company to collect them from Eastern Creek and have them flown up to Brisbane. Both dogs had lost weight, but I had fattened them both up prior to leaving the UK by atleast 1kg as I anticipated that would happen, they were very excited to see us, and didn,t seem to have been too upset by their time away from us, they settled well within a couple of days. My oldest dog hates loud noises, he hides from thunder, door slams etc, My young dog runs a mile if someone sneezes : )))) Please try not to worry too much, I was so anxious I felt ill, but as soon as I saw them I knew they were fine, they are well cared for when not with us.
  17. I packed all my dogs belongings, just washed and cleaned them 1st, no problems at all.
  18. Hi, My dogs have just arrived in quarantine, I was 1 day late with their boosters and for immigration purposes I had to have the 2 stage primary vaccinations re done : ((
  19. 12 years I have wanted this day to happen. feeling very excited tinged with anxiety and sadness.12 hours to go and I will be Brisbane bound, hubby and 2 daughters already there, I took my little dogs to the pet shippers yesterday, won't settle until I see them in Feb.My eldest daughter (28) is staying in the UK, she is a bit of a mammy's girl so saying goodbye at the airport is going to bit a bit tough, but i'm hoping she will make the move at some point. This site has been a valuable source of information, and I am grateful to those who have offered advice so a big thank you and good luck to those starting this adventure Allison
  20. Hi, Thanks for that, I have been looking at realestate.com.au My husband will start looking at properties next week, i will pass your details to him
  21. Hi, I will be arriving in Brisbane in 2 weeks, We will be looking to rent a property North Brisbane,My husband will be in Brisbane from the 10th of this month. we have 2 small dogs that will be arriving 7th February,My brother lives in Cashmere.Any tips on how to secure a property fairly quickly would be appreciated.
  22. The company we used last summer were great from start to finish. We were quoted for a sole use 20ft container and literally rammed it. We were also given the ship details so we could track the shipment, arrived exactly on schedule.Happy to PM you their details, as I would highly recommend them. They were very forthcoming with information and a fair price. We did not use their insurance as from reading a lot of threads on it, the general consensus was that it is a lot cheaper to look at buying that independent.
  23. We had to provide our visa details to the shippers for them to ship our goods,They will only ship if the visa status allows
  24. I think the last post is a bit harsh in relation to the original question asked by djfuddy..... they are not looking to abuse a system just asking a valid question, if doing what they propose ends up costing them more money then that is their choice, but it is perfectly acceptable to go over on a tourist visa 1st in the hope the 189 is granted, if not then they have acknowledged they will leave the country as dictated by the tourist visa.
  25. Hi, My daughter was already in Oz when our 189 was granted, the agent said she didn't need to do anything as the visa would automatically change over
