Hi Everyone – Me and the family have literally just got off the plane from Oz ( two hours ago !! ) having done a reccy on where we might want to live. We had an amazing time looking around ( even though it honked it down for much of the time !! )Much of our focus was on the areas around Maroochydore but we also took in Redcliffe because of its proximity to Brisbane. We really liked Scarborough / Newport very much. The lush grassy areas and cycle ways that flank the whole peninsula overlooking the calm waters look absolutely fantastic. We can just imagine taking the dogs for a walk in the parks or riding around on the cycle paths etc. I know the houses are pricey compared to some areas but we are OK in that department. My questions really revolve around the community itself. Is it a friendly and safe place to live ? Are there a few places to go out on the night ; nothing too racey but any restaurants / bars - Does the area have the equivalent of the Surf Clubs found on the Surf beaches ? Is there much for kids to do ? Mine are two girls 10,8 and my boy is 5. Also, as they grow up ; is there stuff to do for teenagers ? Finally, my kids are Catholic and the Catholic schools ( Southern Cross Primary & College ) look nice enough but does anybody have any kids there or know anything about these schools to give us a ‘heads-up’ ? We hope the PIO community can help us out here and especially if anyone has lived or is living in the area Thanks a lot Iain

Poms in Paradise - Royal Marine Daz in Redcliffe ep4 I think
krestsaf posted a topic in Chewing the fat
Hi All, Just watched ep4 I think, about the flooding, meter girls help, backpackers, and RM Daz from Redcliffe who moved 2yrs after ex wife and 2 daughters. He holds a special place in my heart as has had a similar journey to me when I went to QLD, in that he has cancer since his arrival. I am now back in the UK, but planning a return 2020 or before all being well. Wondered if anyone knew Daz, or could pass him onto this thread as would love to hear about his journey, treatments and share stories together. Hoping he is well, and enjoying the QLD fun. Thanks  -
Considering Brisbane but would love to live near the sea?? Read this...
KarenPrince posted a topic in Renting & Real Estate
I see that many people wonder 'where to live?' when moving to Australia (especially if they don't have family here already). I came here from New Zealand nearly 20 years ago with my Pommy ex-husband and we headed straight to Queensland as I had a sister here. The Redcliffe Peninsula is just 30 minutes north of Brisbane and so has access to all major city facilities. For many years it was a sleepy seaside village but now has 55,000 residents and is predicted to have significant capital growth. There are now many new apartment complexes on the waterfront, sensational canal homes as well as a variety of other real estate options. If you would prefer a 'sea-change' rather than living in a tight-knit suburb, then consider the Peninsula. You can find fabulous beachside properties at very reasonable prices. If you have friends or relatives living at North Lakes, Queensland already - it's just 10-15 minutes from them. I'd love to show you around... Happy New Year! Karen- 3 replies

Hello Everybody... We're (me, wife and 4 year old daughter) looking at Kallangur as one option to move to in June form the UK. Looking at some rental properties on Realestate.com.au you seem to get more for your $ compared to Redcliffe / Woody Point which we are also looking at. Any tips or suggestions about areas to look at renting in Kallangur oh and what about the internet? Do you get it everywhere cause we've heard how North Lakes have internet issues!!! What about mozzies at night and those cane toads folks have been mentioning (do they taste nice on the barbie??) Oh and cant forget shopping - many shops and restaurants / carry outs? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Jamie

Brisbannittes - 26 February 2011, Redcliffe Meet-Up

Hi there, PLEASE NOTE: CHANGE OF VENUE TO KALINGA PARK, END OF PARK AVENUE, CLAYFIELD - Time 11am Because Suttons Beach is closed we have done a last minute change of venue. We are moving it to Kalinga Park and suggest that we set up a gazebo on a grassy area near the BBQ's, once you get there you should be able to find us fairly easily, give us a call or send us a message if you can't find us. Kalinga Park Location: end of Park Avenue, Clayfield This park is brilliant! There’s a huge sandpit, a series of Aussie tree houses, a climbing wall and fun with sounds. On weekends and after school it is buzzing with children climbing, sliding and having lots of fun. The large flat area beside the playground is perfect for parents to sit down and set up a picnic, plus there are leaf shaped tables, a few shelters and free electric barbeque facilities. Kalinga Park also has a kid-size practice bikeway, a creek complete with ducks and a nearby dog off-leash area. If you live nearby, ride your bikes along the bike path that stretches from Toombul shopping centre to Grange and beyond. If you need any more info, directions etc then just PM me and I will try to help. If you've been before then you should be able to spot us fairly easily, if not then just listen out for the English accents or a tell tale Tesco shopping bag! I'll try to remember to take ours. Hope to see you there. Sharon x- 28 replies

Hi All, We are a family of four (2 boys aged 3.5 and 1.5). We are currently researching places to live in north Brisbane and particularly like the look of Redcliffe. It ticks the boxes for us in terms of being close to the beach, not too long a commute to Eagle Farm and we can find rentals within our budget. I was just wondering if anyone lives there with small children? Is there plenty to do for little ones, toddler groups, classes etc? Are there any negatives for families? Many Thanks Louise

We hoping to move later this year to Redcliffe but we cant seem to find any info about dogs for this area. As we have a dog this is obviously important to us to live in an area where we can walk him plenty. Julie

Brisbannittes - January 22 2011 - Redcliffe

THIS MEET-UP IS BEING POSTPONED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE DUE TO THE ON-GOING SITUATION IN BRISBANE AND SURROUNDING AREAS Hello and Happy New Year to one and all, I hope everyone's hangover has now subsided and the New Year resolutions haven't yet been abandoned! We are having the next meet up at the Settlement Cove Lagoon in Redcliffe on 22 January 2011. About Redcliffe - History and Attractions Personally I haven't been to this place yet but it looks pretty promising as it has the lagoon area for swimming and wading, a children's play area, water jets, the beach, picnic areas and bbq's. The address should be on the link above but I think it is Marine Parade, Recliffe, it may also come up on Sat Navs as a point of interest in that area too. If you have been before then just look out for the familiar faces and if you haven't then we usually have a gazebo up, a picnic table and the picnic chairs too. Just listen out for the pommie accents! If anyone has any issues with finding it etc then please do send a message and we will try to help. As usual just try to bring some bbq food and drink, enough for yourselves is fine, and we all pitch in and share. Time wise we should be there from 11am til mid afternoon depending on the weather and how tired the kids are! See you there unless the weather is terrible in which case we will re-arrange! Bus Services Suspended in Caboolture, Redcliffe and Burpengary
The Pom Queen posted a topic in Aussie Chat
Translink says bus services have been suspended in the Caboolture, Redcliffe and Burpengary areas because of flooding in south-east Queensland. Train services through to the Sunshine Coast, north of Brisbane, are still running. There are also delays to public transport services in the Ipswich area, west of Brisbane, because of rising floodwaters.-

Hi folks, I'm applying for work (in the medical field) in both Redcliffe and Logan, Brisbane area. We have a young family - 2 kids under 3 years of age. Which area is better to live in? From what I've heard Logan City is pretty bad, but perhaps there are nicer areas nearby, which is still commutable? Many thanks.
