KarenPrince posted a topic in Renting & Real EstateI see that many people wonder 'where to live?' when moving to Australia (especially if they don't have family here already). I came here from New Zealand nearly 20 years ago with my Pommy ex-husband and we headed straight to Queensland as I had a sister here. The Redcliffe Peninsula is just 30 minutes north of Brisbane and so has access to all major city facilities. For many years it was a sleepy seaside village but now has 55,000 residents and is predicted to have significant capital growth. There are now many new apartment complexes on the waterfront, sensational canal homes as well as a variety of other real estate options. If you would prefer a 'sea-change' rather than living in a tight-knit suburb, then consider the Peninsula. You can find fabulous beachside properties at very reasonable prices. If you have friends or relatives living at North Lakes, Queensland already - it's just 10-15 minutes from them. I'd love to show you around... Happy New Year! Karen
cc2121 posted a topic in Visa ChatHello, my boyfriend and I (26 and 22 years old) just got to Oz from the USA on working holiday visa. We love it so much and don't want to have to go back home but unfortunately we don't have any qualifying work experience as we just graduated university (bachelors) in August. Also, our majors don't seem to be very helpful in qualifying us for in demand jobs (he studied Political Science and I studied Philosophy with a minor in urban and regional studies). I did work all through school part time and have had a real estate license in California for 4 years and worked as a property manager assistant and real estate assistant. I also have an associates degree in accounting but no relevant work exp besides basic property accounting. Anyway... we are really hoping one of us can find a job sponsor and are willing to do any necessary course and prep work. I'd prefer to work in property since i've already got some experience and understanding but am basically willing to do any sort of labor or training that could secure sponsorship. Boyfriend is interested in construction management but also willing to do anything. Any feedback is very much appreciated. As we are from the USA we can't get a 2nd year WHV and are trying to get all this sorted out ASAP so we can start with any training courses we might need. We can barely sleep at night we are so worried about if any of this will work out or if we will just have to go back home to get work experience and then try to come back! Thank you PomInOz members!!
Morning All Just a quick question... Is it harder to find rented accomodation that accepts dogs? (i was told Australians LOVE dogs and preffered pet of them all) Iv been advised to go through private letting rather than a company letting, there round about the same price, but most private lets are furnished? We have no children! Just looking for a 2 bedroom... Eventually we are looking to buy, but im aware we cannot do this straight away.. Any idea's??
