  1. That cooker on the last link is beautiful, but $28k :err: We have sold our white goods with the house so had been debating whether to buy new here and ship. But the warrantee thing seems like a real headache and then there is the goods less than 12 months old tax ect, so we are going to wait. I will check out Appliances Online based on the good reviews here :cute:
  2. Huge congratulations on your first 3 exams. I am so glad that you are starting to feel better and it sounds like you have an amazing hubby to support you. I am 100% rooting for you  xx
  3. Another sad loss for 2016. His "My Blackberry is not working" sketch was one on the funniest things I have seen in a long time.
  4. Im sorry to hear that some of your things got broken @lp77 , I agree they should of been fully protected. One item you can put down to an accident, but several items just seems wrong. I hope you get it sorted soon. How are you settling in though other than the shipping troubles?
  5. Excess is definitely something to consider, I got a quote today from a seperate company and the excess is £250, so if you do end up claiming its not really saving anything. I hope all your things ship safely, when do you go @Patphillips47? X
  6. Thanks that is a good point :wubclub: I have requested a quote off Letton Percival so it will be good to be able to compare costs. Ease of claims ect are really important too though should it be needed, its the bit you hope you wont need so dont really think about :twitcy:
  7. Thanks Rammygirl :wubclub: that is really handy to know, I will drop them all an email to find out about that.
  8. Thank you for the info :wubclub: They have all offered free storage for whichever end we choose. I made a point of asking for storage in Aus and not the UK, but they all offered me the option of UK storage also should we need it. All of the the compaies were very honest that our goods would be packed/unpacked for storage in the UK as it is not feasible for them to store containers in their warehouses. They all also advised that if we ship directly to Aus that a the container will be sealed at my house and remain so until Customs open it, so I don't think that is exclusive to Bournes. It is very handy for people looking at UK storage to be aware of though. We will choose storage in Aus for a few reasons, mainly as like you say I prefer my items to be sealed and shipped (less chance of breakage ect), we are also hoping we can secure a rental quickly and not actually need the storage, it is just a back up plan. Fingers crossed
  9. Thanks GGS :wubclub: I wanted to get John Mason in as tbh they were the only one I had heard of prior to my research. They are a big name that jumps out. But I was put off as when I called to book the office was shut, they are only open 9am - 5pm and from a convenience side all of the others were open after 5pm. I knew they would all be similar on price, so like you say its the little things and who you like/feel comfortable with that helps make the decision. I am still debating getting JM in to quote, but I dont know if would to help clarify or muddy my decision, plus I already have 4 quotes, I need to stop being quote greedy and just make a decision
  10. What a lovely post, thank you for sharing. Heres to many more happy years :wubclub: xx
  11. Hi all, So we have had 4 companies in to quote a 20ft container from the Midlands to Perth and I thought it may be helpful to share prices for others wondering about costs. In no particular order we have had PSS, Pickfords, Anglo Pacific and Doree Bonner in and in a different non particular order we have been quoted: £3,600 £3,815 £3,895 £4,189 They have all offered free storage both ends for upto 4 weeks which have varying "handling fees" from $0 - $459. They vary by 0.5% insurance fees and 0.5% card fees. I enquired about air freighting a few boxes of essentials and non have been able to beat Parcel Monkey price wise. So far they have all offered a good level of service and I have read good and bad reviews for each, so I am not sure how we will pick other than purely down to price.
  12. We have been saving since deciding to move to Aus and have managed to squirrel away most of my salary in the two years. We could of saved more but we decided that there were a few things we really wanted to do before we moved, trips to New York, Rome ect. I am hoping we can continue the saving trend once we are in Aus as at the moment we seem to have a nice balance between saving for a rainy day but also enjoying life. I agree with the "dipping in" bit though HH, as now we have a little nest egg I dont want to spend it, it is nice to know it is there. The reality is for us is that we will probably have to use some of it to supplement a deposit on our next house, but as we will have a physical asset to show for it, it's not so bad. It's the thought of having to use it to live on whilst we look for work that upsets me. Reminds me of when I was little and liked to hoard all of the Monopoly cash
  13. Maybe their fingers are froze so they just ticked the "yes I am happy box" instead of the "No and please give your reasons why..." box  Jokes aside, I have never visited any of the top 5, but I am sure they are beautiful places. Cold beautiful places.
  14. I have stopped looking at the exchange rate for now because it makes me want to cry :frown: I know they say you should never count on an exchange rate but I keep thinking if only we had sold our house last year. What if's  Luckily we have been transferring some over each month for a while now so have had some benefit of a better rate, but now we have the money from the house sale. Like you we are now trying to decide whether to transfer the funds to Oz or ride it out and wait and see what happens. It's a tough one. Trying to stay positive, I still keep saying to myself it is better than it was when we visited in 2014. I think we got around 1.75 ish then.
  15. Welcome to the forum :ssign18: We have not actually shipped our stuff yet, but had Doree Bonner in to quote and they seem very professional. I have the others you mentioned coming in later in the month, so will be able to compare prices then. I have been put off by John Mason though as their call centre/number I have is only open 9am - 5pm UK time, which makes it a bit awkward to get hold of them for me. Will also be more difficult with time differences if calling. It may sound silly, but if they are all similar in price it will be the little things like that that are the decider for us. You will get some really good reccomendations on here, and there some really helpful posts from people who have already shipped. I dont think you can really go wrong with any if the ones you have mentioned.
  16. Glad they both got back safely and you can now relax. Hope you have a lovely weekend together xx
  17. That is such a relief, thank you for the info guys. I would definitely keep him with me in hand luggage. I just figured the shipping agents would know about about customs/regulations and if I would be allowed to take him. I googled and came up with nothing, so thought maybe my hubby was right that I am being a bit crazy wanting to take him. I am so glad I asked here first. It is a sealed box and it is varnished or waxed, so I guess treated, I will contact the vets to confirm. Thank you xx
  18. Ok, it's possible this will be the most random and moribid question I'll ask. Can you ship pet ashes? I lost Toby last year and have him in a little box on my dresser. I really dont want to leave him as I am not quite ready (yes I know I should, dh reminds me everyday :twitcy:) I have 4 shipping companies coming in later in the month to quote, so can ask them, but thought I would embarrass myself here amongst friends first :embarrassed: Save scaring the poor shipping agent
  19. Glad you had a safe journey and are settling back in well. Exciting times ahead :cute: xx
