  1. Following this post as Im intending on heading up there too in Sept. @calNgary your links dont work unless its my end  Theres a bat rescue place up there that im hoping to go to too
  2. @aconcannon even when its cold theres still beautiful blue skies, the odd time weve had overcast days but they dont last long. I remember often in UK even when warm it was always cloudy. The sky is just beautiful here.
  3. Hi ive sent you a PM with some groups worth checking out, good luck
  4. Is this the same agent who advised on the general Ielts??? Check he/she is MARA registered before parting with your cash! For nurses and im sure its same for midwives Academic is required for skills assessment at 7 or above in all areas. However for points purposes alone the general will suffice. I wasnt quite sure which you have already taken but hopefully you will get there!

    Migration

I spread it out over 2 year but could have done it within one i reckon. My skills assessment took longest, about 6 months in all for assessment and registration. From visa app being lodged to granted took 3 months.
  6. Beautiful blue skies though cloudy too, only about 16 outside, it feels warmer out than in so got my reverse air cycle on, couldnt cope with the southern climate!

    Migration

My friends parents used them and were impressed, i rang for initial advice and they were really helpful though i ended up doing it on my own
  8. I did, my son was 16 so didnt need to rely on family for support. Need to be aware as Quoll says though that you may need permission depending on circumstances
  9. I was in same boat. They initially put my son in yr 11 but because he'd missed the curriculum from Jan to Oct and being late in the year just had to slot into what subjects were available he really struggled for a week. We then requested he drop to yr 10 for remainder of term and commenced yr 11 in Jan this year, best thing we done. Although hes older than a lot of his peers The Gold Coast is quite transient so theres still kids older than him. Hes thriving now
  10. If your wanting PR visa as the main applicant you have to do both. WHV or 457 which are temp sponsored visas only Ahpra is needed. Unless things have changed since last year.
  11. What about facebook groups? There are some for the Gold Coast and ive met heaps of people, theres bound to be one for near where you are?
  12. Buy the Emmigrate to Australia and New Zealand magazine (think thats what its called!) comes out monthly, and in the bacl of there every month is a to do list for example 6 months prior, then 1 month, 1 week. Really helpful
  13. ive heard UK RMNs are more in demand so you may have more chance at sponsorship. However if your not planning on going until Jan why not just go for PR?
  14. I dont think theres a shortage of nurses in QLD as theres heaps of new grads without jobs, hiwever there may be a shortage of experienced nurses. I dont know why, maybe just culture here but loads of posts only temporary
  15. Are you sure the The Mater are still sponsoring? I work for QLD health and heard theyre not recruiting 457s. I may be wrong of course depending on speciality so maybe someone will give more up to date advice
  16. If you can transfer to the Gold Coast i have a spare room!
  17. I can honestly say that yes i did research and nothing has come as a surprise. I have a better lifestyle, i manage on one wage as i too am a single parent, yes rent expensive but i could have fit my old house into the sitting room alone of my new house, so gone from living in a pokey 2 bed terrace with a small garden to a huge 4 bed bungalow with pool and gardens. We have take out once a week and go out for meals regularly too. Ive had weekends away too.
  18. Hi been here since Sept. I sent in an EOI, heard nothing, applied for a few clinical nurse posts again nothing so took a job as a practice nurse for a few month, realised it wasnt for me so actually went into the Gold Coast hospital one day and asked for a job! Got an 8 week backfill post on neuro rehab, still there 12 weeks later, but had 2 interviews for clinical nurse roles in community just waiting to hear both sound promising. The people i know who are on the pool have as much work as they need and the hospital still need to use external agencies to fill, lots of contracts are short term though that dosent worry me to be honest as its plain to see they need nurses theyre just reluctant at mo to give them out.
  19. Seriously i would wait till you got here, do agency work, theres heaps, dont just send in an EOI, when you get here go to local hospital if thats what you want (be it ward or community) speak to local nurse recruitment, be pushy, im sure you will get something! Where you looking at going? To be honest without AHPRA i dont think they would even consider an application, however things take a while even when here!
  20. Nothing to add other than im following as i will be doing my first soon Thankyou
  21. If an occupation is soooooo specialised it aint on SOL or CSOL then Aus don't really want it or need it at least not at mo so basically youve managed x amount of time in Aus on a quickie visa, well i spent 2 year researching planning sweating blood n guts jumping through olympic style hoops going on the longest most emotional rollercoaster journey of my life changing direction on more than one occassion, spending obscene amounts of money to get here and if it goes t@ts up i will pay my way back, at least under a 457 your employer pays return ticket if im not mistaken? Well, my fave expression at mo is 'Suck it up sweetheart' you chose that path
  22. Thats why when i began the journey 3 year ago i decided to go straight for PR, nothing new with the 457. Its a 4 year work permit.
