  1. If you teach with violence and humiliation, all you will do is teach a child to be violent and humiliate. Never 'okay' in my opinion, and you can shush it away with 'In my day!' and 'I was smacked and it never did *me* any harm' but if we can teach dogs to twirl and sit and pee outdoors, surely we can teach a child without resorting to violence? I was hit as a child and it didn't do me any harm. That doesn't make it ok...
  2. Visa granted! Got my notice to go offshore for grant two weeks ago, granted today! Vanuatu is so much sweeter because of it, can't wait to re-enter Australia as a resident! Stats; Lodged 04/02/2013 Medicals and police check 13/05/2013 Moved to Aus 01/07/2013 Called offshore to grant visa 15/08/2013 Visa GRANTED 02/09/2013!!
  3. Just playing the advocate here, but we had no savings when we moved, it cost a lot of money and then some as we brought my dog too, but we managed it. We're still here two months in, staying with family and paying criminally low rent to them, it's expensive here but not dreadfully so. I'm very much missing my mum but we talk daily on Facebook and she's coping; my sister has moved to Ireland and my other sister to Uni so she's alone with just my little brother and her partner. I felt awful about it at first but it takes time to realise that your mum would not want you to hold back on your dreams because you feel guilty. You have to be a little bit selfish to emigrate, but justifiably so.
  4. Hi Tilamont, Yes, that is fine. Just make sure she's covered for her time in Aus, minus the time from the processing time of 8-9 months, so about six months? You'll need a tourist visa for that. I came in on an evisa for three months, one way. I took all my documents with me, everything, and no one asked me a single question. This is because I am here as a tourist until my visa grant, which means I'm not doing anything illegal or wrong, because I haven't been working and have just been enjoying a holiday. When I go offshore for my visa to be granted, I'll return on my spousal visa. As for evidence, I 'm not sure. Like Snifter says, how can we be sure? I've been with my husband for five years, married one year, and for two we were in different countries! I didn't have any rent or utility bills to show because we lived with my mum and paid her rent, and just sent through all we had in terms of bank statements showing our joint accounts, personal stuff, and stat decs from his Aussie parents along with a statement from my mum saying we were living together. Also our own personal statements. No photos though, as they weren't requested. I applied early Feb, and got my request to depart for my visa grant six and a half months later. There doesn't seem to be any logic to it! We don't have kids and have only been married a year and yet we got request to depart letter very early on, even though my medical was referred. I was genuinely expecting the request to depart letter at the 8 month mark, my CO has always said 8-9 month processing time.
  5. I had 6 month 2 week processing too with VF, I'm a Feb applicant. Can't believe all the waiting is over, I go off shore to grant in a few days!
  6. Nope, just got an evisa and walked through Immigration. Got my depart letter about a month and a half later (Feb applicant), flying out to validate in a few days time.

Here's my little sausage. Maisy, 3 1/2 years old, just got here a month ago out from Quarantine. She loves it! Here she is looking sad about sandwiches. Snuggled up with a new toy. And enjoying a beach walk at The Spit. And how could I leave out a cute puppy snap?
  8. Also, a large Taro milk with tapioca pearls with just one sip taken from it.
  9. I was walking my little dog past the primary school recently whilst they were taking register. My dog stopped to stare at the kids, and the teacher called out 'Puppy dog, can we get a hello for the puppy dog?' and her class turned around and waved, calling hello. Maisy seemed happy with it and we carried on, but it made my day.
  10. Well done BlueWaterz, welcome to the club! My CO told me no further evidence required and I met all requirements subject to medical and police checks.
  11. I just got my letter asking me to depart Australia for grant...it just specifies you're offshore, and that if you're on a cruise you need to double check with them as not all cruises count as offshore. I'm going to Vanuatu for a week!
  12. I asked if mine would require any more evidence, as I was coming out on an evisitor visa. She said no, she had everything and I met the requirements for 309, so long as I passed my medical and police check.
  13. It's very normal to hear nothing. My CO (VF) told me she would contact me when my referred medical had cleared; she did, but to tell me the visa was able to be granted. Remember that if they need something from you, they will tell you. If not, then no news is good news. They're still dealing with backlog I expect plus new applications before the price hike, so are very busy. There's no reason for you to email them and no reason for them to email you until your visa is granted.
  14. If you apply for the defacto visa, you must have been living together for 12 months, I think. If applying for the spousal visa, you don't have to have lived together but it does help I expect. I didn't live with my husband for the first two years of our relationship but I'm just about to get my spousal visa granted.
  15. You can, you just need to declare them. I brought in Beeswax hand salve and such, I was asked what I needed to declare right after immigration and I said so. She just stamped my card and I went through with hubby without even opening my suitcase. Again; just declare it, and you'll be just fine. I even declared a wooden-backed hairbrush, which was fine.
  16. Ours are Miner birds, the cat managed to catch one from where they swoop and shout at him and left it there on the lawn to serve as a warning to them, I think! My dog was swooped whilst having a poo, she looked most livid! Bonnie, I won't be moving to Melb then, give me a QLD winter any day! 27 today, we're off fishing tomorrow, happy days.
  17. It's been gorgeous, today I burnt myself so badly though!
  18. Someone told me recently that it was coming into Autumn in the UK (the most beautiful season, I think) but I thought they had only just had their Summer?! Husband and I were, I must admit, quite pleased to be enjoying an Aussie winter of 27 degree days!
  19. I used JetsPets (their customer service was totally useless, though, it took me less time to organise her international flight than to organise her one to the GC). Cost about $250.
  20. Thanks guys, it's a big weight off my mind and I will enjoy these last couple of weeks holidaying before I start work. I came over on an evisitor visa. I still feel so lucky I've had the opportunity to come to Aus, it's incredible here.
  21. Woo hoo! I got my request to leave for grant of visa today So relieved, and such a quick time frame too, only six and a half months, I am mega relieved as this has not been a smooth ride! You can see my stats at my signature, I've been in Aus a month on a tourist visa, medical was referred due to high BMI, but here I am! Now to plan a little trip to Bali or NZ!
  22. I flew about a month ago, I had three stops so the flight was split into 7/8/9 hour slots. Some said this would make it much easier. It didn't! It was exhausting and next time I will be getting a flight with just one stop. The flight itself was wonderful but even with the best flight crew and best plane, etc. it was still totally exhausting.
  23. Hi, I live in the GC, it is Winter now so the spiders aren't coming into the house (apparently they only come in to keep cool) but I haven't found any at all, even outside they're sparse. The house is sprayed and it keeps them at bay.
  24. That sounds about right; is that the silver or gold service? The gold is much more expensive, but, you have to do a lot more stuff yourself. It cost me about 1,020 including import and export permits with PetAir, and then about 400 of vet fees, then about another 900 in quarantine fees. My dog is only 6kg and 13 inches tall. I found some that did it cheaper by about 100 pounds but that's it, and, they were clearly way less professional than PetAir.
  25. Hello. I'm in the Gold Coast, and I used PetAir to ship my bitch out. They were incredible, comforting, professional, informative, everything I could have asked for. They cost about the same, maybe a bit more, than others but the professionalism was well worth it. I felt so safe using them for my girl. It was expensive, about 3k all up including quarantine etc. but so worth it. She loves it here, really really loves it! She lays on the deck in the morning, eats better food, and we walk every day without fail, mostly at the beach or a great off leash park nearby. My family out here have a cat, he's an outdoor/indoor cat. The biggest problem for him is that the birds swoop him, other than that, he's a pretty laid back guy.
