    Mega Annoyed

What is it about big families! The competition! I'm flying on the 1st of July and because it was so short notice, my mum and I have been doing a couple of things together when we usually wouldn't. For example, we went to have tea in beautiful gardens last week, and on the 30th (the day before we fly) we're going out for breakfast and to a little car show nearby. I stupidly put this on the calender... 'Day out'. Well it hit the fan, I got home from a weekend away with hubby to see his family and what a contrast! My poor mum has been shouted at, slammed doors at, and told she is being unfair and favouring me because my sisters weren't invited. Let me just clarify here... my sisters are 24, with her own car, and two kids, and house. The other is 18 and is plenty spoiled when she goes out with my mum, which is far more often than me. Both of them acting like five year olds. The real getter? NEITHER of them have asked me to spend time with them before I go, so I know it's pure jealousy! I'm fuming that they could be so insensitive to my mum, who is already really upset about me leaving, and she is really poorly at the moment too, she cracked a rib coughing last week. So what do I do? Offer to go out with both of them next weekend with my sister's kids. The elder agrees (after pointing out that she will not apologise, how mature) and the other refuses. I am just speechless. Emigrating is SO much more complicated than it should be.
  2. I'm one of those jump and go people. We've had two years to think about it and I'm still thinking 'Yeah, it'll be tough at first, but all the best things are really.'. When my hubby suggested we go two months early, just on a fling, it was a pretty instant yes! I can always come back if I need to, and I'm coming back for a visit next year.
  3. Excellent, I'll pop into the post office to get some dollars at the end of the month!
  4. I think it depends on each case. My medical was referred and my CO has said it could take four months to be cleared because of the huge load of work the DIAC have right now, so I could be in for the full nine months!
  5. A little update from me. I took my medical on the 13th of May and hadn't heard anything back about it, so emailed my case officer. In my medical exam she told me she had to note on my application that my BMI was over 30, and that I had some self-harm scars. My case officer emailed the medical people and they told her I'd been referred. Extremely upset about this because I thought it meant I wouldn't be able to go to Australia on July 1st...and I have paid for EVERYTHING! Flights booked, dog booked, everything!!! Anyway, thank goodness for VF, she was lovely and told me that it just means the medical officer looks at my case and decides if I'm all good or not (I presume I will be as I have zero health problems), and that if I do need to do any health testing, I can do that in Australia. I had to ask her one last time...can I still go? She said yes, she saw no reason why not, so I'm officially excited about leaving! We fly in 27 days, woo hoo. Got my visitor visa through today too so will be able to wait out there without worrying.
  6. We went to a solicitor...£30, fiver each copy, and he witnessed my mum's statement for the same price. Bargain.

Stacey, that's the kind of buffet I was talking about, there's a chocolate fountain and the food is like, second to none, plus it's a nice place too. I don't have a problem with seeing overweight people eating, I might add, I understand that they may have been dieting a lot and are having a treat night (which we all deserve now and then) but it is really depressing to see sometimes. I don't feel indignant or anything, but it does make me feel quite upset to see it and to be honest, a bit unwell when I see how much food some people can put away (my HUSBAND included!). I won't forget being in a little Browns Cafe in Oxford one morning with a friend, and watching the bloke next to us polish off two huge fat boy breakkies. We went to America as kids a few times, and indeed the place we ate for breakfast each morning was a huge buffet and again, a few dollars to eat there. To me, in fact even now as an adult I think this, it was like the mecca of breakfasts! Everything you could possibly want! When I was a kid there were five of us so we never got nice cereals as they were gone within a day, we got Weetabix and museli and that was your lot. To be faced with so much nice food, and for breakfast...I'm talking pancakes, eggs, sausages, bacon, etc. but also muffins, marshmellow squares, ice cream! My sister had her birthday once when we were there visiting Disneyland and we decided we were going to have ice cream for every meal that day. I honestly think no where but America could cater to that childhood dream so efficiently. We did indeed have ice cream for every meal, shocking now I think back that my mum let us but it was certainly enough to put us off for a good few weeks!

We go to a buffet place sometimes in Norwich, the food is superb but last time I was there put me off...huge fat family, and I mean, grotesque. I'm not judgemental on fat people, but this entire family were easily at least 20 stone each, and that is not an exaggeration. Anyway, one of them, the lad, put a huge load of noodles on his plate and then PICKED THEM UP WITH HIS HANDS to put them back in the serving dish. I avoided that dish then on, and for that reason we always get there bang on when it opens so the food is all fresh. I love the calamari there. Likewise, the waste makes me sick, hubby and I go so rarely that we actually plan our plates in sections with the stuff we like best. Sad or what!
  9. I'm a bit stressed today. Had my meds on the 13th, they were sent off a week later. Just contacted my CO, she still hasn't recieved them. I'm petrified I've failed them!
  10. I was watching this one evening. It was the live show. Then my sister in law came on! ABOUT HER PRO-LAPSED VAGINA! With pictures! Could hardly look at her at my wedding. Then I mentioned it to my brother...he said 'Don't tell her you saw it. She doesn't want anyone to know.' ...WHY go on telly then!
  11. I was the same, I saw the 100 and thought 'YES!' but then it started to make sense, haha.
  12. Mine will also be in in July. I'm not too worried as they have an indoor section and I think temps will be more like 10-15 degrees.
  13. LGannon, I got the same thing, thought I was getting the 100, but my CO told me I met the requirements for the 309 recently so I'm not in luck I think! I would just keep it in mind, I think it might be because you've paid for the 100 visa because you don't pay again, you pay for both temp and PR in one go.
  14. What has been your best and worst flight? Think my best would be my flight back from Aus a couple of years ago, flew with Qantas and they looked after me so well. Every question I had was answered, the entertainment was superb, food was great, and even the domestic flight was perfect with a complimentary juice bottle and flapjack. Worst flight would be Ryanair. Went to Italy a few years ago and not only was the flight delayed but the plane was horrible, and when we took off all this white smoke came into the cabin! Petrified my mum and I, afterwards the crew said it was just condensation but it would have been useful to know beforehand. Think my fave part of a flight is take off. We're with Emirates this time and I'm looking forward to it. I rather like turbulence too.
  15. This is the address; Australia House Strand London WC2B 4LA United Kingdom Add on Migration Branch for couriers. From what I can see you wrote the address wrong. You wrote High Commission, not Australia House. That could be it?
  16. I'm a pretty positive person so I guess I'd say half full. That said, if there's something negative happening in my life (i.e. worrying about my medical) I will think and think and think about it and it will get me down.
  17. It's different for everyone. We're not paying for accommodation when we get there so our figure will be far lower. So far, including my tiny dog, visa, and flights etc., it's costing me and my husband £7,000. That's without any accommodation costs, any shipping containers, or any savings included.
  18. I'm currently waiting, but have wanted to do this for a couple of years now, so it has been a long wait and yes, not buying anything for a home, etc. has been difficult. Now we leave in a month and I am so glad I didn't buy anything or make commitments here as hubby suggested we leave two months early and I was in the happy position to say yes let's go for it! So just BE PATIENT! It is nothing in the long run and you will have to wait anyway so just enjoy it!
  19. I asked my Pet Air agent and she said that I can pin some toys to the outside of the crate, but she said it's a bit hit and miss as to whether they'll stay as sometimes they chuck them, she said to leave tags on so they can see they're new, so that's what I'm going to do. I know there'll be vet bed in the crate so won't bring that but I thought I might bring a cheap fleecy blanket I've slept with to go in with her, I know it will probably be burned at the other end but no matter.

I watched a program on it a while back and it really IS shocking, so for me I make a conscious effort and when eating out I will try and order a small of my meal at MacDonald's or similar, and likewise will have a kid's meal. I work at a cinema and the kids popcorn deal is actually what an adult might have! I rarely eat out anymore anyway and try hard to cook from scratch and then I feel I'm more in control. I'm trying to cut out processed foods entirely for the most part, which is working really well, but sometimes I will have a fat day and eat chocolate! Even then it's mostly a fat day because I've baked cakes or cookies or pancakes.
  21. No problem, I am thanking my lucky stars that I crate-trained mine from a puppy, she will hopefully sleep the whole way!
  22. Oh hun I'm so sorry! That's such a pain in the arse!
