We stayed in the monterey services apartments in central canberra - not amazing but great for a few weeks until you get sorted as it's close to the civic http://www.canberra-apartments.com.au/monterey.htm

Central Belconnen is a strange place - lots of grey buildings and not many people walking about. Make sure you sort out a car quite early as Belconnen is a 20 minute drive from Canberra CBD. Bring plenty of winter clothes if you're coming in June, Canberra is very cold in winter due to poorly insulated australian windows. We don't live too far away in a suburb of Gungahlin called Casey.

You're joking! My sister lives on Dowson Road! I was born in Romiley! And from the looks of it you don't live far from us now either! We move to Nicholls in a couple of weeks!

Hi, I'm a huge Man Utd fan and just moved to Canberra (only been here 2 days). I'm 30 and moved here from stockport in the UK. I'll be more than happy to meet up to watch games and have a few beers too.

We arrive on the 25th unfortunately so that's out for us. Please keep us posted for any meets after that date though as we'd really like to meet up with everyone!

Jen and I arrive in Canberra on the Sunday 25th September. We don't have any kids so any time after this date will be fine for us! We'll keep checking this thread to see what date is confirmed.

Hi! Just wanted to wish you all the luck in the world with your move. Jen and I move to Canberra in exactly a month! We'll be adding a post after a month or so on here (probabaly around October time) to let every know our thoughts and feelings after a couple of months in Oz. I'm in the IT sector too and was stung with the problem of needing security clearance to work for Federal Government (Local Government doesn't seem to have such issues). After several long chats with recruitment agencies in canberra, the vast majority of them said that, if the employer likes you and wants you, security clearance won't be a problem, they will always find ways around it......having said that, they also said that Canberra was seeing a surge of Private sector jobs, as more and more large overseas companies were moving to the capital so we arn't too worried about work at the moment. If you need any other advice or help with anything, be sure to give us a yell....we'll be more than happy to help if wa can! See you down under! Jay and Jen

We received our SS in November 2009, our Meds were requested in December 2010, Visa granted in January 2011. Hope this helps! Let me know if you need any more information. Jay and Jen.
