  1. If 457 was your only option, then your son would need to remain dependent on you until PR had been granted (not just applied for), DIAC re-check along the way, dependent basically means just that totally dependent on you for money, ie no other income, it's not impossible, but really not worth it in your circumstances, go to PR if at all possible good luck Cal
  2. Hi DanJan, we're on the Gold Coast, and moved from Lazonby just outside Penrith, I would seriously ditto all of the above comment, job first, it's essential, I have relatives, who landed and thought theyd walk straight into a job, no such luck, There is lots of coastline btw Cal2

    Advise please 457

if you search on here regarding proof of relationship, you'll find lots of ways people have evidenced their relationship, including photos I believe Cal2
  4. I'm not sure whereabouts you are, but at my daughter's school they adapt the reading level to the child, there's no such thing as the highest level for the year, some parents sent in home books to read, however, she will need to pass the comprehension test before being moved up and that can confuse some children at first as it's different to the UK Cal

    Kindle/Amazon

if you dont mind me asking, how do you pay for the US books, do you have a US credit card or a prepay card thanks Cal2
  6. Ditto, although exactly the same, one of my dogs passed first time and the other didn't, they then test again and as long as it hasnt gone up, ie the same or lower, the dog will pass, however, it's one additional thing you dont want to have to worry about at a time when you have some many worries Cal
  7. Thanks for these updates, it's helpful to have the web sites to check Cal2

    Racism

Im in Queensland, havent had a problem as yet, I'm a bit like cal I call myself a POM, a good friend called me a whinging pom once and I was having a whinge (about cake - very important to me!:yes: ), otherwise I was just saying this morning how we've had 3 difeerent workmen in this week, fixing stuff and all have been really helpful which is how I find most folks. The problem I see everywhere is that one person says something and the way its said is ok, and another says it nastily and then of course theres just down right nastiness, but Ive come across it in the UK, US and other countries I've visited. Cal
  9. I emphasise so much for me it's what's best for the children that's the deciding factor, unfortunately I've never found that elusive crystal ball to tell me what's best for them. Whatever you decide you will have some regrets, but I'm sure you will make the most of wherever you are good luck Cal
  10. what will happen is that your employer will if agreed apply for an employer sponsored visa, it's true you can't 'convert' its like another application for a visa, this is what you would ask for in your contract
  11. anyone else got the urge to randomly select articles from said paper and post them on here, because you can  :biglaugh:
  12. Cronemeister makes a good point(s), I would ask, it would also show the employer that you are committed, we had it written into my OH contract that the company would sponsor for PR which they had done before, they were happy to, as soon as my OH started work, they started the PR process, cant complain about that, but get it into the contract good luck Cal

    Who will be next?

I love Thorntons toffee, think it's the best, maybe they should just concentrate on that, can give their chocolate a miss
  14. We're on a 457 and I dont think you can claim child benefit on the UK, I believe you must inform them that you are not in the country, please someone correct me if I'm wrong Cal2
  15. I think you can / or could have been sponsored by your employers which is how we're doing it, but things might have changed in July last year, try checking PR from 457 on the DIAC site. Also maybe 2 years and then you can apply, but again that might have changed last year, try a search on here too good luck Cal2
  16. Didn't want to read and run, I have absolutely no idea I'm afraid, however, if you have a good removal company they should be able to tell you Cal2

    Skin Checks

Hi, im after any information on having skin checks done,. I've been advise to get done as such and think my OH and young kids should be checked too. Our GP has said he can dot hem, but I don't know how much he will charged he normally bulk bills, do you get them done, do kids get them done, how often do you get checked, how much does it cost and where do you go?im absolutely clueless on this matter. Thanks Cal
  19. why, oh why do folks not learn, it's horses for courses, what suits one person doesn't suit another, positives and negatives are both great, but it's what suits that individual, and doesn't apply 'carte blanche',
  20. Welcome, I'm sure you'll find lots of helpful advice on here Cal
  21. Hi, we didn't and aren't, my husband moved out first and we moved out 3 months later, it was just the logistics, once here we settled (for now) near friends and he works away during the week, much as we did in the UK actually Cal

    Dilemma

my friend tutors after school hours to fit in with her husbands work and child care, she also works Saturdays tutoring the pays decent and although it means one day less together it never does the children any harm to be looked after by dad for a day, mine prefer it, although not much else gets done!
