  3. Hi Shaun my cousin runs a very successful building firm in Manchester and he employs three Polish brickies. He treats them equally to his local lads, pays the same rate etc. I had work recently and got talking to two of them. I asked them if they planned to stay. 'No way' they said, this country is a ticking time bomb with all the different nationals trying to live side by side. They believe we are heading towards a ' racial explosion of rioting' I asked what it was like in Poland, they said Moslems were not welcome and 98% of the population were Catholics. They also said it was not a good country to be gay. They are slightly behind in thier Liberal views and obviously blinkered. But they have an argument. We have hate clerics on benefits, shouting abuse at our soldiers and the police protect them! Something has to change. We cannot give shelter to all! Our kindness is being exploited in every aspect. I do not want my children growing up here, we are off as soon as we can. If Australia has similar problems it will not hurt so much as OZ is not my past. I love England and nobody is more proud than me, which is why it breaks my heart to see us losing our identity and freedoms.
  4. No, for the doctors to communicate with their patients. I work in theatres and they need to get consent from the patients before they can operate. Even if the patient is Iraqi and so is the doctor, they still need an interpreter. We have poorly and or heavily pregnant people from all over the world arriving with drips in thier arms. We pick them up in an ambulance and pay for thier relatives to stay in digs nearby. A lot of the time when they are better or have given birth, they claim asylum! I could write a book on the abuse of our health system.
  5. I cover four hospitals in Manchester and last year they spent £1.5m on interpretation services!
  6. To be blunt you are missing the point, England is not inundated with Doctors, nurses, tradesmen etc, from these Eastern bloc countries, to me they are welcome. It is the undesariables that come, and abuse the welfare system, hence the hysteria! I work in hospitals around Manchester and see the abuse everyday. We are at breaking point. GPs not allowed to refuse anybody access to our free healthcare. We only have so many hours to operate, so many beds to care for the sick, and too few SCBU beds. At some hospitals we are turning away mothers in labour! Cancer patients have to wait up to eight weeks for an operation. Can you imagine knowing you have a cancerous growth inside you for eight weeks. We are going to snap under this pressure! Seventy million population in the next decade for this tiny Island. Australia is so huge in comparison. Getting into Australia is a hard task if you have nothing to offer. Getting into England easy peasy. Just turn up. Sneak in on a lorry or undercarriage of a train. We need to set limits and limitations on those allowed to settle here. One town after another is losing its identity. People with no respect for our laws or customs come here, bring the whole extended families and never adapt. Never learn the language, use a knife and fork, the list is endless...... One thing Austalia will never do is be as soft as we. If it were, this website would not exist. Why would we Bits need advice if we could just turn up and settle, work or not work, claim benefits and be better off in Oz than home. Think on you die hearts, England will not be home to anybody in the next ten years.
  7. When I was much younger I moved to Jersey in the Channel Islands. As an outsider I was exploited by ruthless landlords who charged the earth for one room, and shared bathroom. No cooking facilities, had to live off boil in the bags and toast. I became quite adept at eating this way! I loved living in Jersey, I had two jobs: worked as an admin assistant during the day and in a busy bar during the night, five nights a week. I did not have to stay, I could have come back to Manchester at any time. Being young and enjoying the freedom I stayed for seven years. I then travelled through East Asia and worked and lived in Sydney for eight months. I shared a two bed flat with seven strangers in Potts Point. We slept on the floor. Again my choice, I did not have to live this way I could have gone home. My point to this story: this is exactly how the Eastern immigrants survive in England. They share everything including beds, jobs and cars. They choose to live this way because the situation for them at home is worse. They earn good money and save up. To eventually go home. They are exploited by employers and landlords. The problem peaks when they are eligible for free housing and benefits, then they stay! I watched question time on Thursday and the leader of UKIP said they are entitled to a host of benefits after three months, not long to rough it when we then pay them to stay! There is no incentive for them to work. The EU has made this possible and the government can do nothing to stop it. Time to emigrate I think!!
  8. Omg! Do you have to go home now? We are coming over soon, my company is sponsoring me on a 457. I am 46 in July and have been informed by the company's immigration agent that the age increased to 49 in July 2012. This is my biggest concern I am fearful they are spinning me a web to get me over, exploit me for two years ( I have skills on products they do not have in Oz) and leave me adrift!
  9. No, what I meant to say was, I have colleagues who have entered via the same route, 457 sponsored which I assume has converted to PR after 2 years. In my naivety I believed that the company applied on my behalf once the 2 years had passed, and this would not be a problem. Thanks for your responses. x
  10. Thanks Rupert. The 457 is the only visa available to me. I have wanted to move to Oz for 15 years, and now I have this opportunity. My company has offered me a job and I know they have other English people working for them. We are coming over in February and I have a meeting with them in Sydney. The reason I do not want to ask at this stage, is that the job offer is very tentative and I was hoping to convince them during our meeting. I do not want to push them if the chances are it not converting to PR as I do not want to sound desperate! I guess I should just ask my agent.
  11. Hi We are new to Poms in Oz and I have a few questions. We will be coming soon on a 457 sponsored 2 year visit through my current employers. I have read a few threads on here stating that you do not automatically get granted PR after 2 years on a 457. I am reluctant to ask my employer this question and was hoping that somebody could help. If we give up everything here for just a 2 year working holiday it is not worth it for us financially. Thanks
