    PR Visa - Expiry

Thank you verystormy for the prompt reply. That makes sense now.
  2. Hi, Our Pr visa is due to expire this year, we are applying for citizenship, but my husband may have to wait longer as he has spent some time working for an Australian University, out of the country, if he cant apply for citizenship yet, can you extend the visa or what. I cant quite figure it out for the immigration website. Secondly our sons PR will also expire, he is studying abroad at the moment, due to finish and return later this year, he's 25 so classed as independent, I guess, although originally included on our PR, so his will run out too. What visa will he need to apply for? We are all settled here, have two younger children fully integrated here, so his intention has always been to return. thanks for any advice
  3. sorry bloomin' autocorrect - I do think so!
  4. I don't think so - mine had a great experience, they were really well looked after
  5. For anyone who went back with teenagers - how did they get on school wise with especially exam years - getting entry to uni thanks
  6. Hi, our son has had PR since July 2013, since then he has spent a few weeks in the UK, 6 weeks travelling in America and is returned to study in the UK for 2 years last year, I'm presuming he will be ok returning, up until July 2018, by which time he will need an RRV. Is this correct? He returns for holidays during the 2 years he's away. thanks Cal
  7. I think it's just different, like life, somethings are better, somethings are worse, I could live in either country, we're lucky that we can.
  8. we have an ice cream come around our suburb (Gold Coast) every Friday night - he sells blocks of ice cream though, not ice cream cones like in the UK - would love one here, but I don't know the regulations involved though. I have heard that recently the Gold coast is encouraging and giving licences to food vans for local sports fields etc, like a takeaway but on wheels I guess.

  10. Hi, our son is going back to the UK, to study for a couple of years, he has PR, but doesn't qualify for citizenship yet, will he need a RRV, or something else? thanks Cal
  11. Hi, I thought I read on here a post about being able to book a flight to the UK, as if in the UK, we have UK credit cards etc, but I can't find the post. Could anyone point me in the right direction of the website or sites, or any sites that you have found good for flights to the UK, especially one way. Our son is going back to study, but will be coming out to visit in the future. thanks Cal
  12. can you name them, or is this just another of your generalisations and who cares what Angela Merkel thinks - she only speaks for Germany ....... for now .......
  13. not sovereign by the EU, but very much governed by their rules and regulations, the sovereign is the Queen, but she does not govern. Freedom of movement will be governed by visas same as it is here in Australia and very many other countries Imports may go up - but then maybe they'll buy British People from outside the EU have always had to apply for a visa to visit, live or work in the UK. TBH there are two many unknowns to say what exactly will happen, more so, because it was unexpected. Interestingly with regards to immigration, I think it was Birmingham where more than 50% of the voters were from families who had emmigrated to Britain and Birmingham voted to leave. There's a whole other world outside of the EU, sometimes in Britain we're very blinkered by Europe, which basically means Britain hasn't been looking or been allowed to look beyond the end of its nose (Europe).
  14. I think the advice I was given was to have the container smelling of Jeyes fluid, showing you have disinfected necessary items - I sprinkled a little onto the cardboard of each box and also our company boxed up "risky" items away from non "risky" items.
  15. we used PetAir, they're very experienced, we moved our dogs over 4 years ago, the process can be quite complicated and although we had what could have been a real problem, Pet Air just sorted it all out. They were also very good and giving clear instructions as to what needs to be done before your dogs fly and when they first get here. I don't know Gold Arrow, I certainly hadn't heard of them 4 years ago. Our problem was that despite PetAir giving our vet clear instructions of completing the necessary forms, our vet missed one digit of a required number on the paperwork. This was for one of the two dogs and was noted by them about 30 minutes before the dogs were due to fly. Instead of risking Australian Immigration sending them back or at least one of them, they had the dogs unloaded (both) and took them back to their kennel, where they sorted out the paperwork and arrange for the dogs to fly the following day. They even contacted the quarantine kennels in Sydney. All sorted while we were blissfully unaware flying to Australia. I couldn't fault them in any way Caroline
  16. sorry was posting a reply and realised you're all here - it's a worry hope your dog is better
  17. another word for invade is conquer - is there any country in this world hasn't been conquered at some time or other. With regards to messing up the aboriginal people, a) drugs and alcohol etc are available every where we just choose whether or not we use them, b) they at least don't kill each other as much now, and not for tribal reasons c) some aboriginal people have done really well, so putting them all in the same pot is crazy, d) give those who are mixed parentage a break please.........
  18. As Quoll says it is only for essential cover, for example if they visited a Doctor for a cough and were prescribed antibiotics, they would have to pay for the consultation and prescription as per an Australian. They would only be able to claim the money back from insurance, although Dr appointments as free in the UK, it's a reciprocal agreement meaning you will be treated as a person living here would be, some people get confused and think it should be free as it is in the UK. Hospitals are free, but again some things have to be paid for.
  19. he was onDragons Den in the UK, I remember him coming on and singing
  20. Looking at going back to the UK for a visit next year, now we have Australian driving licences is it more expensive to hire a car? thanks Cal2
  21. there is a saying: "if someone doesn't appreciate your presence, let them appreciate your absence" and I think that is what will happen. You're clearly a fantastic mum allowing him to have this experience however it works out, and I would just go along with him for now. If something needs to be done, i.e. go to the barbecue then he has to go, PS4 let it go it belongs to him doesn't it. I don't know anyone on here who doesn't miss the UK at some time, he has no sense of reality of what it is really like living here in Oz. Whatever happens you're doing an awesome job, if his Dad is amenable perhaps he will have a word with your son about his behaviour.
  22. Nothing to do with the Govt, no you don't have to sign the visa and I wouldn't it basically means you've agreed to him taking her to Australia

    Citizenship

Hi, hope I'm posting in the right forum. Next year, my OH and I will be able to apply for citizenship, how time has flown, for those of you just starting out, stick with it, you can get there. My query is regarding our children, who were all included on our 457 and PR visas, and all were granted PR in 2013 with us - the primary applicant was my OH, who was originally sponsored. Now the 2 youngest will be 10 and 12, when my OH applies for citizenship in January 2016, so if he gets citizenship, will they? Both myself and the girls arrived 3 months after my OH, so will I have to apply for my 'own' citizenship in April 2016? Our eldest son who was at university in the UK, was granted PR as he was classified as being dependent. He has travelled back and forth during his holidays, but has been here permanently since August 2014, does he now have to wait to apply for citizenship in his own right, would that be in August 2018, depending on any time spent out of the country? thanks Caroline
  24. there are exceptions but you must show he is dependant on you, i.e. do you pay his rent, phone bill, other bills etc?
