I nearly walked into one when I first visited Australia 20 years ago. Up in the rain forest up near Port Douglas, bloody thing had built its web across a pathway.

I will probably be proven wrong but it looks like a Golden Orb Spider to me.
  4. Although we applied for the 175 visa so can't comment on the new skills select and 189 / 190 visas. I found it pretty easy to do it all myself. Gathering documents took sometime but overall it wasn't too hard. As others have posted already there are lots of people on here that can help and give advice.
  5. For me moving to Australia means that I fit in with the rules, culture, and respect the beliefs of the country. Not bemoan that its different and I don't fit in. If I moved to any country in the world I would not expect it to change for me.
  6. I don't think they've changed the rules in the past few months. So can you not scan them and send them. No need to get them verified then.
  7. Some airlines have a policy of no children on the upper deck of the A380
  8. I was lucky enough to be at Dorney Lake today to see the Women pairs final. What an atmosphere when Team GB won the gold. Great to see the Aussie pair winning silver to boot. Absolutely amazing experience, loved every minute of it.
  9. I am sure that someone will be along to help answer your question but this site maybe of use to you http://acecqa.gov.au/qualifications/assessment-of-equivalent-early-childhood-educator-qualificat/
  10. Good to know that there are some people who have managed to secure employment. I'll keep plugging away and see what happens.
  11. Hey all Just wondering how many people have been successful finding work in Australia from the UK? I am currently a PE teacher and my wife is a NVQ nursery assessor. We received our 175 visa in June so have started looking at job sites. Wife is keen for us to find jobs before we move so that we have some security when we arrive. Although I have worked in schools for the past 7 years I am looking at changing careers as there seems to be very little need for teachers in Perth and in particular PE teachers. I have previously worked in careers advice, as an estate agent and for a short time in an office. I really don't mind what I do just need enough to be able to rent a 3 bed house and afford food. I have been looking on Seek.au and have applied for some jobs, but with no success so far. I am beginning to widen the net a little from teaching but is it the case of employers only hiring people that are already in Australia. I applied for one job as an out of hours schools supervisor only to be told that I was not qualified to run sports after school as I did not have a certificate IV Outside of school hours qualification. Is it the case that for each job you need to pay for a new qualification. The jobs description was for running sports clubs after school but apparently as a PE teacher with 7 years experience I am not qualified to do this. We are planning on validating the visa during the Easter Holidays so may try and spend a week visiting companies and handing out CV's in person. But would love to find something over here so that we can change the validation and reccie into a permanent move.
  12. I certainly feel like I'm in limbo at the moment. I have wanted to move for the past 20 years and now we finally have the visa. I'm now very keen to move as soon as we can. In my mind spending £4k on flights for a 3 week holiday and then spending the same again to move in 2 years time would be better spent on moving straight away. Wife is more sensible and pragmatic about it. I think it maybe time to sit down with the Mrs and try set a date for migration. I think the wife would be more confident about moving earlier if I had a job lined up. Just finding it very difficult to find anything at all at the moment. Without this she is apprehensive about moving around the world with no job.
  13. We got our visa a month ago and are currently looking at flying to Perth to validate our visa next Easter. We are lucky that my great aunt lives in North Beach and has said that we can stay at her's during the stay. My wife is an NVQ assessor and teacher in childcare and has been told by her employer that she can still work for them in Australia, as they have an elearning system in place and can assess pupils written work. She has applied for positions in Perth as well, and is currently being shortlisted for a learning consultant position. I am a PE teacher in a Primary school (although secondary trained), however I realise that teaching positions in Perth itself are hard to come by (wife is not willing to go bush). I am currently looking at whether to change careers or possibly look at starting my own business running after school clubs. I have been looking at jobs on Seek.au, however finding it hard to find anything at the moment. I am keen to get to Australia and want to move as soon as possible, whilst my wife wants to wait for a few years before we go. We don't have a huge amount of savings at the moment and once we've sold the car paid off loans etc. We would have around £10k, although we currently have around £20k equity in our house but don't want to sell. Would really love some advice or your opinion on what we should consider doing. Should I try and convince my wife to move asap or should we wait and save before biting the bullet.
  14. Congratulations !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  15. When I was 10 I was on holiday and took part in a competition. They asked where I was from so told them Bracknell. They had never heard of it so told them it was near Ascot and Windsor. Oh so you're posh then was the reply. Bracknell posh? Warfield or Binfield maybe but Bracknell never. Apart from office blocks and some new housing Bracknell hasn't changed in about 50 years. Failed attempt at a new town I'd like to nuke the whole town and start again.
  16. OMG what a very small world. I grew up and still live in Bracknell after living in Birch Hill and now Hanworth for 33 years. I also went to EP School. After getting my visa 2 weeks ago I'm hoping to be able to leave for good at Easter. Place was never great but has gone down hill so much.
  17. Yay huge congrats on the visa. We've just got our 175 in under 3 months as well, I was expecting it to take at least 6 months.
  18. Hoping that someone on here is able to help me. We were recently granted our 175 visa and we are starting to look at the different work option that there may be in Perth. I am currently a PE teacher but after looking at the job opportunities for teachers I am looking at changing careers once I migrate. My wife is currently a child care training assessor and college lecturer. In the UK she teaches and assesses students completing their NVQ's (level 2,3 and 4) in childcare. She has a degree in Early Years, is a qualified A1 assessor with seven year assessing experience and has recently become an internal verifier. Last year she completed her PGCE and has topped this up to become a qualified maths tutor as well. She wants to continue in a similar role when we move but we have been unable to find out if there is this type of role in Australia. Also would her qualifications be recognized in Oz, or would she have to get a recognition of prior learning or worst of all completely resit her qualifications again.
  19. Congrats to all those who have been granted their visa's recently. Could I be changed to purple please. Got a lovely email this morning confirming that our visa has been granted.
  20. Huge Congrats on the visa. We are just waiting for police checks, medicals marked as finalized today so hopefully we can report the same in a couple of weeks.
  21. Pretty sure Primary Teacher is not on SOL. So state sponsorship may be best way to go.
