  1. thanks, I knew there was some that wouldn't be but was not sure of all thanks for the clarification. ... with the Foxtel, I was just advised the phone socket will work still, I checked and it does.
  2. I have called Foxtel, who ask me to reset the Router, they advise a reset , literally I do it daily, they then say they will contact Telstra, who say no issues, even though Foxtel clearly see I am not connected ... to be fair, with too many fingers in the pie ,it will never be satisfactory ... 10mbps is a good enough speed for me, I just browse and email etc ... just wish it was stable a nd regular like chicken needs.
  3. I feel your pain, I really do, they say cal us, I say well the VOIP is not working so no phone to call lol, now they credit the 35c it cost via mobile to call them when the phone is down ... have you asked for them to do a line trace, I was adivsed that the line had a break and it was replaced, they also said before due to water(rust) the connection was poor .. irony is when NBN rolled out here the ADSL2 became very stable. ... oh I pay extra for the speed boosts too.
  4. broadband is shocking in Australia, even ADSL 2 its 2017 using the excuses of the size of the country when probs 97% is not lived in is not a fair point, its not just broadband, sadly, we moved over to NBN, we have nothing but constant issues ... we are supposed to be on 100/40 ... some days we are luck to reach the Dizzy heights of 0.95 Mbps..... we get told, we will get it fixed then a text saying great news its fixed and will go 5 hours without internet etc ... Foxtel, say well thats the best you are going to get deal with it ..... we get drop outs daily and they wont fix the issues, we just gave up trying to get it fixed ... we moved here in 2012, I feel like its 1986 .. so slow and backwards for a 1st world country.
  5. I do believe they cannot force you to move over to NBN, thats what I was told by Foxtel, when we took NBN out wew were told well in August its all switched off you will lose all internet didnt happen it was false to try and scare people to move to the useless NBN
  6. Here are the fees for NSW, which are more expensive. http://www.rms.nsw.gov.au/roads/licence/fees.html
  7. apologies pressed wrong button lol. lovely cats, we are going to bring 4 back and two small dogs, was wondering if you would be willing to share the experience of the company used to transport them.
  8. on the application, you do not need to disclose travel unless you have been out of Australia for more than 90 days since arrival.
  9. we have the same issue now, our daughter is 9 only 2 years left prior to secondary school, we have a house in london. we will move back but we are not whether to sell the london house and buy elsewhere. I think you need to do what is right for you, I just hope you dont become a ping pong. we decided to wait for citizenship then return.
  10. I called immigration here in Australia, and they said I dont qualify .. hence asking here.
  11. ok, im really confused in relation to the new rules, I have lived here continuously since 2012. .. I was advised they are not processing any new application? I have put of applying because of this.
  12. welcome bob, you don't say where you are, please be mindful if in NSW, provided the car is under 10 years old and 160,000 kms you are entitled to a 3 month warranty. just be careful when purchasing if you can afford a few hundred dollars get an approved used car. Reference servicing and service history, unless its been purchased new, people can say what they want never believe a seller, and go with your gut instincts. remember buying private you are buying sold as seen and have no comeback. It is your money and make sure you are safe with it, I believe a member on here was selling the same said car. Chris
  13. To the Opening poster, I wish you all the best in your return to the UK. of course you will have feelings of anxiety, it will be a stressful time. I sincerely hope and wish you well in the journey you are embarking on. don't regret what you do regret what you do not do.
  14. So, someone disagrees with you, and they are stupid? that I find rude completely, you are commenting in a section which is for persons who wise to or whom have returned to the UK. if you are not liking the comments don't read it but not reason to be rude at all.
  15. Sorry why would he need to give it a rest? , not everyone is blinkered by Australia. I have now lived here for 5 years. we are hopefully moving back this year already been waiting 18 months longer than we wanted due to legal issues. bar the weather Australia, does not have a patch on the UK.... thats my opinion however others will rightly disagree, Bristol could tell you to give it a rest harping on about how great Australia is.
  16. I personally think, you should remain in the UK. I wouldn't trust going back as soon as them kids step foot on Australian soil you will be/could be having issues. Trust your instincts and remain in the UK. ...... We are hopefully returning to the UK in 2017 after 5 years in NSW, and that is to far away. Chris
  17. That is if customs bother.... what you have to bare in mind with this car, you will have to get it checked in the UK. it might be a VW golf. and sold in both countries but bare in mind safety regs are different and you could end up paying 100s if not 1000s to get it legally on the road. with the cost of cars in the UK is it really worth it sell it and buy new in the UK.
  18. Also, would just like to add, if you think it is right do it ... regret what you do not what you don't do. Hopefully we will have our commitments resolved in April 2017 and we will be on the first flights out of this place ... biggest regret of my life and 5 years wasted.
  19. I have to say, when I used to live in London, living on 25k was easy. Prior to pay rises. We we're a single income family, 2 kids 3 bed house 2 cars .. working in central London ... I was on 33k a year as a wage. At the end.... seriously, as it has been said not every property is 2m in London ... nice places such as Epping / north chingford in zone 4 only 35 minutes to Liverpool street by train. What you have to compare also is cost of food is cheaper in the U.K. Stuff closer to hand etc ... better healthcare system. We have decided to return to the uk after 5 years in Australia.... we cannot wait ... we will be going back to London my wage will be 42,500. My wife won't be working at first and we won't be spending 2000 a month on rent..... sorry I think personally, some come to Australia and can't see the bad just like my in laws ... they think it's all Rosie here. When infact it's more expensive. I can't wait to be out of this backward country .. and proper internet public transport services etc.
  20. If he passes his test here, don't forget he will be on restricted licence IE Red P's for 12 months as long as he is over 25 he will go straight to full licence after. a learners licence will not get him a full one in the UK
  21. Why would he need a UK passport to work he has a UK birth certificate, that proves he is legally allowed to work in the UK. he just has to call the IR and get a NI number issued, as soon as he has that he is fine.
  22. you would be able to claim income support when returning to the UK,provided you can prove you are living in the UK full time. ..... The meidcal side of it you are able to be covered fully under the NHS, end of the day you are still English, and have rights. look up the citizens advice they can assist and I believe Home shelter or something. End of the day, if you go back turn up on the DWP door step say I have no moeny I cant eat they will not let you starve. http://www.ageuk.org.uk/Documents/EN-GB/Factsheets/FS25_Returning_from_abroad_fcs.pdf?dtrk=true
  23. http://www.cargiant.co.uk if you are flying into the UK at heathrow, well worth a look ... all decent and cheap cars well say cheap, cheap for modern cars nto a beat up 1990 toyota corolla what you would pay 15k over here for.
  24. I fully agree, the using " I cant get work etc" is an excuse, prior to moving to Aus, I had a good job, here it meant nothing ... I tried car salesman,Debt collector, and yard hand .. then got my present job, driving a train in Sydney ... on very good money. obviously some work is beneath some .... look on jobs nsw or any government job website there are plenty of jobs. It is in no way a dig at you personally, I however think if you do desire to go back do it ... you can always come back!
