  1. My son applied for his own 189 Skilled independent visa recently. At the moment he is under our 457 visa. At what point does he get a Bridging Visa, is it only when a CO has been assigned? Thanks
  2. Congratulations, what a great feeling! My son has applied just last week, so we are eagerly awaiting the outcome!
  3. Thanks so much, I thought it had to be done at the same time as application, so all is well then!
  4. We came to the end of the online application for the 189 visa but didn't get any request to attach any documentation. The last page is for payment, so I logged out. Are documents attached later when DIAC requests? Thanks for the help. Sami
  5. Yes you can update the EOI anytime you have new information, etc., until you get the invitation.
  6. My son is going to submit his expression of interest as a Software Engineer on 1st July and he was out of a job from middle of April and starting a new job on 1st July. Is it worthwhile putting in that information? Because then it would say Date from 1 July and Date to?? Does the unemployment period make a difference to DIAC? Thanks
  7. Is there a way to find out if DIAC is still inviting people doing EOI until the end of June, just before new immigration year? My son doesn't know if he should put his request now or wait until 1st July when there is a new quota?
  8. Congratulations! My son will also apply as software engineer, just needs to pass ielts. He has unfortunately done it 3 times and needs to get 7 in writing, only 6,5 up to now!
  9. check results here https://results.ielts.org/
  10. Congratulations. great results. My son was waiting for his results to submit EOI and for the third time messed up on the Writing score with 6,5 when he needs a 7 !! Will have to give it another try.
  11. Well, but let them be fully trained and working in a clinic and they earn upwards of 10,000$ a fortnight! I know because I work in a clinic where I do the dr's salaries....
  12. I know these are valid for 1 year, but our European one has a clause at the end saying "valid for 3 months". Since I need to get these translated, would this impact on the supposed 1 year validity they are meant to have? Thanks
  13. Sorry to hear about your bad luck. My husband was retrenched three times in 4 years due to the sponsoring companies losing contracts and letting go of the latest 457's recruited. Luckily he was able to find new sponsors, once it took just over 4 months though. That time DIAC contacted him telling him he was getting a letter giving him 28 days to leave the country, and he told the lady he had been interviewed twice already for a position in a company and was just waiting to hear something soon. She said fine, when you get the letter you need to let us know what you are doing to get a job or if you already have found something in the meantime. SO, even though the rules say we get 28 days to leave the country, it could take longer.... Just start looking for another sponsor quickly and best of luck.
  14. Congratulations, all the best!
  15. I like Melbourne and the European feel it has, but wouldn't swap Perth for Melbourne!! I could not stand the Melbourne grey weather! And there is plenty to do in Perth, you just need to get to know the city and/or go a bit further out to some lovely places like Mandurah, Margaret River....
  16. HI Rachel, we have been here 6 years and love it. Great weather, beaches, clean city, lovely suburbs, loads of parks. I don't have small kids so it was harder to make friends, but through work I have made 2 good friends and through a social club have also made more friends. Although we are not beach people, we love going to the parks near the river for a picnic or just a walk. I know Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide and Perth for me has the best quality of life.<br>Of course it's not paradise, there are drugs too and some crime, nothing major in my opinion and if you choose a reasonable suburb you and your kids should be fine. I think it would be easier for a young Mom to make friends with the other kid's moms at school meeting, drop offs, etc. Best of luck with your move.
  17. Thanks Del. That was quick. I will look through the link to get an idea.
  18. My son is lodging his EOI as a Software Engineer (261313) with 60 points. On average how long does it take to get an invitation? From the perspective of people that have been invited, are 60 points enough or would he be relegated to the bottom of the pile? If he gets an invitation he would be applying for the 189 skilled visa. On average how long are these visas taking? Thanks
  19. Hi Necromaniac, did you do your stuff through an agent or by yourself? My son has got same anzsco, and we are in the process of looking for an agent. One I spoke to said the process from EOI till visa grant could take over 7 months.
  20. Hi Colette, where could cv's be sent to? Both my daughter and son in law are Process Engineers and looking to move to Perth, where we (her parents and brother) live. Thanks
  21. Thanks Rupert. My doubt was - since he already has a job, would he still need to apply via EOI. Well, he probably does.
  22. My son who is at the moment under our 457 visa, did his Bachelor degree in Perth, has now got his skills assessed as Software Engineer 261313, has done his Ielts, and points wise has 60 points. We had thought WA sponsorship would be quicker, but his code is not on the list. So next option would be skilled Independent - 885 or 189 now? This code is both on the SOL and CSOL schedule 1. He has been working since February in his field of study. Does he still have to go via Skill select first to get an invitation to apply? (We live in Perth) Would he need to do medicals before applying? Thanks for the help.
  23. Sorry to hear your bad news Laurakerryns, we are here on a 457 visa to and it has happened to us a couple of times...It takes a while before Immigration contact you to advise that you will be given 28 days (in fact the last time it took almost 2 months), so in the meantime start looking for another job soonest. I don´t think there are bridging visas for this type of thing, I´m not sure about flying out and getting a tourist visa, didn´t know it was possible. Best of luck.
  24. Gosh, that seems a lot for rent and food. We live 15km out of town in the southern suburbs and rentals here are about 400$ to 450$ a week. In fact my son has just found a rental for him and 2 friends for 420$. We are 3 adults, eat well, but rarely eat out, and I spend an average of 200$ a week buying at Woolies. Maybe look at moving to a cheaper suburb, I have a friend in Sydney and when she visited Perth a few months ago, she thought food was slightly more expensive here, the rents are very high there too and the closer to the city the more expensive, salaries are higher in Perth and the quality of life is certainly superior than the one in Sydney.
  25. Yes I enjoy my job, there´s always something different happening, although we have a very busy practice and can get quite hectic and stressful, and we have to be great at multi-tasking. I´m now Practice Manager so I have a bit more responsibility. I like Perth. My husband worked in Melbourne for 7 months about 2 years ago and I used to visit often and quite enjoyed getting to know Melbourne and surroundings, although I found it got quite cold in winter and rained a lot throughout the year...it´s not as cold here in winter. But the shopping there is great and the city has a very European feel. I´m sure you will be happy there.
