is anything cheap in oz?

Hi all just wanted to get some positive views on what's cheaper in oz as all I keep seeing is how expensive everything is n I need to feel like we're not going to struggle

Based on the average wage rate of 2.2 to 2.5 dollars to the pound, theres major things that are cheap, petrol, rates, gas, electric, wine and other stuff, i did a thread awhile ago and based on wages, these things are at times almost half of what we pay in the uk, but ...... Its a massive country and prices differ. Some things are areally dear as well, mortgages, cars, beer, etc. we worked it out to be almost the same on average, maybe slightly dearer in Oz because of the mortgages, or rent.

I will try to explain further, the average wage is paid at approximately 2.35 dollars to £1 given or take 10 cents either side.

My bills in a 4 bed detached house in the uk are as follows.

Rates - £1450 x 2.35 = 3400 dollars.

Gas/electric - £1600 = 3700

petrol a litre - £1.35 = 3.2 dollars.

car insurance - £550 = 1300

water rates - £400 .. = 975

If anyone living in Oz can post their costs for these items it would be great and you will get a rough guide.

What do you mean?????? Cheaper in comparison to the UK.... it’s not the UK, there can be no comparison. the whole point of moving to a different country is for change, lifestyle, job opportunities culture. Sure you could sit like they do in wanted down under and count every penny but why? all i know is that both my misses and i will have better job opportunities and therefore should earn more, if the cost of things is more then I am sure we will cut our cloth accordingly if need be. I’m sorry for the rant, it’s not directed at you but like you this is all i keep hearing. i am fed up of it.

Life is definitely affordable so don't worry - and remember you'll be earning Aussie dollar and spending aussie dollars

Our 'limit' for a mid-week bottle of red is about $7 per bottle, which equates to about £3.50. Of course I've given up drinking for the time being, but theoretically....
