  1. is there an option of a visa for them if they are not retired? would this be dependant on their skills?
  2. bungo im their only child. the visa costs $50,000 each. that's crazy
  3. hey folks, been a long time. looking for advice for my parents, there both in their 60s and want to come and retire here in Brisbane to be with their only grandchild. I see some visas on the immi site that come in around the 6000 quid mark per person. has anyone tried these? are they painful to get? how long did the application take? thanks in advance folks. Gordon
  4. hiya lilly, let me know of prices and i will see what i can do for you down here in brisbane, Gordon
  5. this is only my advice, if you like it good, if you dont big deal. in my experience im rite,
  6. seems only yesterday i was sitting in the house in the uk filling in the 457 visa application dreaming of sunny beaches. well im here in brisbane and well oz has been what i expected with one difference, its dam expensive. is that a problem? no because im happy to do overtime and earn more money.......problem lies in the restrictions of the 457 sponsored visa. you can not take on extra shifts outwith the place of work that sponsors you. c r a p....... so before i delve into the depression of dealing with the immigration people again im going to ask on here for advice. what is the best PR visa for me as a mental health nurse. does anyone have a list of the forms i will need. heads bursting already. Gordon
  7. hi everyone. DONT COME TO OZ ON A 457. they are so restrictive. take an extra few weeks or months to get the PR visa then come. TRUST ME.
  8. the tribecca appartments on boundary street. if your calling them tell them the loch ness monsters dad told you to book them and if its available ask for the room on the top floor, number 4. awsome appartment. they guy in reception saved me about $8000 with his advice. the pool is ok but the hot tub is fantastic.
  9. Hi guys, in trying to source barrs irn bru in brisbane. Can Anyone help plz
  10. davidson4 sorry, strictly no dundee utd fans allowed. look forward to seeing yous all there. i think we are going to the south bank in the morning so we will just walk round about 12.
  11. i must admit i have only found 1 person in australia to have been rude and after my tirade on him afterwards im sure he now feels all scottish people are rude. he was particularly rude to my daughter who is 5 and well you just dont do that. this man was an aboriginal fellow and his behaviour was so disgusting i wont describe it. other wise everyone else has been fantastic, we have been in the street 2 weeks, and been invited to parties, film shows, several community events and one neighbor came to the door with a bike for my daughter because she hasn't any toys yet. so kind.
  12. Good stuff, I think there is parking tho not sure how much it is, we might go to the south side in the morning with The little one. If we all ware something that would tie us to the uk I'm sure we will be fine, football tops or so on sounds good
  13. We will be there, looking forward to meeting yous, anyone else who can make it please do come along even for a short time, one thing I have noticed about this country is that networking is very important both in personal and professional life. It would be good to build a network of friends
  14. I'm in a stunning house, kitchen is a bit dated but the rest is very nice, had to get s portable air con and there's no pool, 4 bedrooms, 450 a week, hope this helps,
  15. We're in the gap and have a 5 yo little girl, how you settling in, we're from Scotland
  16. hi kelsb. we have only lived in the gap for 1 week now but it has been fantastic so far. the people are friendly, the state schools are amongst the best in queensland not just Brisbane, it is clean, lots of play parks. we commuted from the gap to the south bank in rush hour in less than 20 mins (which is beside the CBD) the roads here are good and bad by this mean the roads tend to be well-maintained but the driving styles are some what erratic and you will tend to see lots of 4X4s as they arebigger and safer. the gap is very close to the bush but I have not seen anything bigger than a garden spider. no snakes, red backs or huntsmen. my neighbour has been here for several years and cycles in the bush a lot and he hasn't seen any snakes or red backs, he has seen one huntsman which was running away from him. more people die from jelly fish stings than snake or spider bites tho a cautious attitude to them is healthy in my opinion
  17. hi boardbabe. we didn't use one, we found they were far to expensive and that the overall cost was more than what our stuff was worth. plus we have heard about added expense on this side from minor things like leaves in the crates that need to be incinerated at a cost of 100s of dollars. there are plenty of affordable shops here to pick stuff. tvs and things that are made in china and japan are much cheaper here. feel free to pm me for any advice. but one thing I will say is once you have your visa apply for your tax number on the Australian government web page gordon
  18. cheers cal, if you get the chance to get a pizza from that we shop do it, its half way up boundary street in spring hill, next to the alliance pub. I tell you its the best pizza I have every had,
  19. hi everyone.. return is not working on this computer so I apologise for the one big paragraph. we set off from Glasgow via Dubai to Brisbane on the 21st of November, and arrived here on the 23rd.we had booked the Tribeca apartments for 8 days to allow us to get set up but we needed to extend that by an extra 5 days, I would strongly recommend the Tribeca apartments for people doing the same as us as they were clean, had good air con, a good pool and even better hot tub, gym and sauna. the guy who worked the front desk (eric) was fantastic, he gave us advice from everything from car hire to where to get the best deals on furniture. (to be honest he probably saved us more than what our stay in the Tribeca was). we had picked a suburb prior to leaving the uk and we chose The Gap because it looked like a small community/ suburb which was what we were used to back home. we used hardcourts estate agents(big company with lots of very specific small offices) who have been very good and got us a good property that we are delighted with. furniture wise we used super amart, cheap stuff that looks good and fitted with what we wanted, albit they do some very good stuff as well. general household stuff we used Kmart. I would also strongly advise budgeting for an air con unit for the house, we got a portable for $500which is a bit noisy but after 20mins the rooms cold enough to switch it off and get to sleep on those roasters of nights. there plenty of good places to eat, no brewers fair rubbish over here. we like the coffee club for quick lunches and really almost any restaurant serves quality food and of course the steaks / burgers are awesome. if you do chose to go to the Tribeca apartments there's a small pizza place across the road next to the alliance pub. try it, fan tas tic. car prices are bonkers. a 12 year old holden (vauxhal) was the same price as a brand new proton but because its not Australian made no one buys them. if you have children the south bank is an Absolut must, take your swimming gear and lots of sun cram and water, its free and there's changing and showers provided. been here 2 weeks, love it, very patriotic country and reminds me of the USA at times but its still wonderful. gordon
  20. hi George and jit. yip up in the gap, if anyone would like to meet up for a coffee or something please pm me. where are you living jilt?
  21. hi fish and shoes, yip made it and I must say its been exciting, the house has no air con which in todays heat is a killer but we will get one tomorrow cause I cant put up with this heat at night, one other issue is there is no TV Arial. theres a Telstra connection with a thread on it as if you need to screw something onto it but I assume that's a phone line.
  22. how you going..... (will never get fed up of hearing that). we have just arrived in Brisbane a week or so ago and are finally moving into our house tomorrow. so now is about the rite time for us to meet some of you wonderful poms in Brisbane. were a young couple (33 and 27) with a daughter of 5. please get in touch or pm me a contact number. Gordon
