Isabelj28 40 Posted February 5, 2016 I applied in June last year - did test in July. Had to provide extra documents, did that in August. Got the approval in September. Ceremony in January. And I'm in regional Victoria.
Ken 881 Posted February 5, 2016 I applied in June last year - did test in July. Had to provide extra documents, did that in August. Got the approval in September. Ceremony in January. And I'm in regional Victoria. Yes, if anything the regional areas do seem to be more efficient at organising these things. It's those of us in Melbourne that are being kept waiting. Admittedly some regional areas do have only two ceremonies a year but (in most cases) they make sure they clear the backlog at each ceremony. In my suburb they schedule small ceremonies every month but don't change the number of invites even though the queue is getting longer. Isabelj28 40 Posted February 5, 2016 Yes, I'm in a '2 ceremony a year' place. So it feels like quite a long time, say if you just miss the June ceremony, you can be waiting over 6 months.
Suzukiscottie 759 Posted February 5, 2016 We're in a 4 ceremony a year council area in Melbourne. Applied August, test end September. Didn't get invite for Australia Day ceremony. Hopefully will get next one in April. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk From Kilmarnock, now in Melbourne :-)

movingback 10 Posted February 8, 2016 congratulations MB, I know you are in a similar mindset to me and many others, hanging on for the passport when your heart is really wanting to leave as the novelty has long gone. Are you going to go for a 24 hour turnaround on the passport then jump on the next plane? 3 months seems quick, I'm looking at 6-7 months at Waverley unfortunately. No I'll just do a regular passport application. I still have some jobs to do at work and organising to do. So long as I'm back for summer I'll be happy Good luck getting a ceremony! tonyman 6,274 Posted February 8, 2016 No. Not all all. You send a scanned copy of your passport with your application and take the original with you to the appointment/citizenship test. Where do you stand if you have an expired passport ? Voted Best Newcomer 2010 by PIO Members.......Thank you....x

littlegreenman 10 Posted February 11, 2016 My question is: How long it takes to get an email for citizenship test/interview for Brisbane Office? I posted my timeline a couple of weeks ago for Brisvegas. It seems DIBP in Brisbane sends them out in batches every second Wednesday. So I wouldn't be surprised if you get one next Wednesday. I applied 20 Jan and my interview is late March. So I reckon you'll get an appointment around end of April. From 175 application to citizen in just under 5 years. handsomewill 108 Posted February 16, 2016 Bit of a long shot but someone may know. Passed my citizenship test and got my approval letter in early January but I'm with Waverley Council which is notorious for long ceremony waiting times. I got told it'd be four months, as a girl I know with the same council went through those timeframes late last year however have a mate/his mrs who were approved last September and still have no news - maybe the wait is longer if you ask to attend the same ceremony as another applicant? What my question actually is, can you request to change council venues to a larger venue, i.e. Sydney City.. I'm guessing not and if you could, the application would start at square one? think I've answered my own question there but don't want to be waiting for 9 months! ah well, plenty to do til then. Isabelj28 40 Posted February 16, 2016 You can request to do it somewhere else if you have an urgent need to have a ceremony
Suzukiscottie 759 Posted February 16, 2016 We were told that the only way to help speed things up is to unlink family members from the ceremony process. (All 5 of our family are linked together currently awaiting a ceremony). We were told that if we had a need for a quicker ceremony then separating the applications might make it easier for the local council to allocate places at a ceremony. Haven't bothered. We'll just wait. (Passed the test at the end of September and had the confirmation letter a few days later; now waiting on Banyule Council, Melbourne). From Kilmarnock, now in Melbourne :-)
