guys, I have question

Can I apply for citizenship slightly before 4 years(3 years on visa 457 + 1 year on PR), to have actual ceremony right after 4 years? I see that it takes in average 2 month between application and ceremony dates, is it possible to apply when you 3 years 10 month in Australia?

I think you can only apply after the 4 year mark, I am pretty sure it is a question on the online application you need to provide dates of your first arrival etc (which I presume they must check)

You need to meet the criteria upon application.

I doubt that you'd get many ceremonies 2 months after application. It's often around a month between application and test, and then several months between confirmation of test pass and the ceremony. We passed the test in September 2015; still waiting for a ceremony.

You need to meet the application requirements at the time you apply. That does not mean you need to have been in Australia for 4 years (that seems to be a popular myth - the actual requirement is 3 out of the last 4 years including 9 out of the last 12 months). Provided you first visited Australia over 4 years ago then you are entitled to count back to the point 4 years before your application meaning you can have spent the entire first year outside Australia if you have been here continuously since then - i.e. in those circumstances you need only have been in Australia for 3 years before applying. You also need to have had PR for at least the last 12 months as you know.

Hi Everyone!

I've been waiting for a long time to have my approval of my citizenship

application?

Applied through paper application last October 2015

Then I took the test last 21st of Janury 2016

I'm just wondering if there's anyone who have the same situation

like mine????

I rang the Immigration today but they have uniform response

as the last time I've asked them "still processing"......

and keep on waiting .....so annoying.....

Yes, normal. One of our four applications took the best part of 2 months to be approved. The other 3 were approved in the same week of the test.

Yeah we are on the same boat...today is my 2 months of waiting

for the approval of my application. But my two members in the family

got their approval one week after the test.

I just cannot understand why they will not give a solid answer or reason why

it takes so long to wait for it...

So are you still waiting for the approval? Or waiting for the date of ceremony?

Thanks for your reply...Goodluck to all of us...

Congratulations Annie.

I have a similar case like you. I uploaded the color copy of my birth certificate but now it seems I can't find the original copies. And I don't have the originals for my interview. Were you not asked for original as I see you passed the test. :)

Hey Sarah, they accepted my colour copy of my birth certificate even though I ordered one. You should be fine ☺
