ali
I think there's a number of issues, Funding , increasing population and also an ageing one. When the NHS was founded, the life expectancy for men was mid 66's and now it's 79's. The population of the UK like a lot of countries has increased considerably from just over 23 million in 1948 to over 65 million in 2017 - that has to have some impact on resources.

Agree , it’s a number of issues and just throwing money at something will not guarantee a fix .

digitalis
The more money you throw at it, the more it will absorb. The population (due to immigration) is too high to support the NHS as we think we know it when combined with every other old person living to late 80's. Every single Winter it's "the NHS cannot continue for much longer". Then Spring breaks and it's all A-Ok again.

Well, as a large portion of the NHS staff are immigrants, saying immigration is causing the problem is not really helpful, as it is also solving the problem. Immigration is only a problem if the spend on infrastructure doesn't match the increase in population. And it's not even as simple as that. The increase in spending needs to be spent on the particular needs of the demographic which has increased in population, ie maternity or stroke units. It really comes down to poor planning. Just playing the immigration card, or the aging population card is a bit too simplistic for what is quite a complicated issue. Well starving it of resources definitely won't fix it will it It's a bit like saying I never get my car serviced and then wondering why it keeps breaking down and uses loads more fuel.

Tell me how those migrants are a burden on everything when most are employed and should be paying taxes and NI, they are productive members of society. Of course we could send them all home and see the NHS, ( at all levels, from consultants to cleaners) agriculture, construction and transport grind to a halt. Trebles all round on that man over there.
