Its very interesting that the loony left bang on about how she destroyed the coal industry but Harold Wilson ( LABOUR) actually closed more coal mines than Thatcher.

This has been pointed out before by maryrose02 with no reply, so don't hold your breath.....globalisation could be a word worth researching:unsure:

Illustrating Scargill is not indicative of the majority of trade union leaders or the working class. He was just as bad a leader of the working classes as maggie was of the "shopkeepers".

.......the difference being that some of us recognise it but don't feel the need to sprout it as often as we can one way or another.

Arthur Scargill is one of the most principled leaders, and has maintained a dignified silence.

No it was worse than that she destroyed whole regions

Mansfield, Worksop, Chesterfield, Doncaster were badly affected.

Sheffield and Nottingham were not as badly affected but could hardly be described as boom towns.

I don’t know what these towns are like today but judging by the cost of housing not well at all.

im from Doncaster, I moved back from oz last October and I can honestly say its the worst move I've made... I couldn't wait to get back to England coz I missed it so much (I know there will be people reading this thinking wtf) but its a an absolute mess, I've been to some beautiful areas for a look since coming back (but they are all quaint little villages with money) and also been to London BUT then you come back to the north and its a total mess....I've been looking for work last October and I might be in a chance finally of becoming a porter.... We have gone from 150,000 a year living in oz to £4,200 year living on job seekers allowance what the hell have we done.... And it's all down to thatcher making this beautiful country such a devastation she has destroyed community's and Doncaster is the biggest **** hole I've ever lived in, yes I'm from Doncaster and I've lived here for 30 years but this place is totally destroyed through thatcher, this town used to boom now it's full of smack heads, unemployment and homeless

I hope she rots in hell...

So you move back to a part of England that is less than desirable and even that is down to Thatcher, is she also to blame for all the wonderful beautiful places in the UK ? Some people need to get a grip and move on.

Principled and dignified .......unless asking for interest free loans from his workforce coffers, paying the bank in full for a house purchase in 6 months whilst his workforce lost theres and asking for expenses to live rent free in another house. Are we discussing that same principled and dignified man? I bet he'll get a state funded funeral.

Labour had already started reforming the economy. Not just some pits but remember British Layland as well. They copped a lot of flack for that. Hence Thatcher was not required to change the ways things were as it would have happened anyway, but likely with far less long term pain and less idealogical in execution.

Often referred to as .....Selective memory, Hypocritical or cherry picking history.

The redistribution of wealth seems to fall within the same realm.........depending upon who is being discussed of course. Marx would say "From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs",..............Skargill filled his own pockets and paid of houses within 6 months of purchase whilst his workforce starved. Won't be hearing much about that on here if us less bright keep quiet as asked.

Selective memory, hypocritical and yep cherry picking and add white washing history. You got the Tory government and allied media down to a tee.

Not wishing for me to yet again be labelled as one or the other, I use those phrases to describe them all.

.....unsurprised that you failed to comment on the rest of my post re Skargill, given that you hold such strong views on socialism and the redistribution of wealth.

Again, from a totally independent point of view, and reading your replies all the way through this thread, and others regarding "everything Thatcher", I am guessing that the daily papers you get your facts, figures and quotes from are Izvestia and Pravda. It isn't just you on the "hate-Thatcher" side of the fence, it seems to be the majority of you that want to blame every problem that the UK currently has on what she did 30 years ago. If you all truly believe this then you are deluded and blind to all the policies since then that have screwed the place up, but you are entitled to your delusions like everyone else is.

The problem as I stated before, as have others, is that there are two so totally divided sides to how people view Thatcher, why anyone is still arguing the same points again and again is rather perplexing. You will never agree with each other, just cause yourselves ulcers.

Now to the person who says lauded Scargill as being dignified and decent... you do not know history or have been so brainwashed you probably think that the USA never went to the moon either. Only other thing I can think is you are a member of the Scargill family writing under a pseudonym!

"Socialism" is as relevant to modern society as the USSR & National "Socialism." Socialism is alien to human nature. Look at Arthur Scargill for example. Did he join his "people" in the strike? Did he go without his (very) generous salary? He has always seemed to enjoy the good things in life to me. Although he is going to end his life bitter and twisted andchated by almost everybody. I can remember seeing him on "Question Time."

As George Orwell states in Animal Farm: "we are all equal, just some of us are more equal than others!"

Socialist mantra although that will be denied.

Everyone else just knows it's true without even doubting it.

That's life. Always has been, always will be.

And the pigs get the beds, blankets and the beer . Stalin put a price on Eric blairs head for his truth !

If you want to quote me at least get it right. At no point in any post did I laud Scagill as being dignified nor decent. A rather silly comment to make, especially after critique on Scargill was made on one of the threads going on this forum.

Still don't let the facts get in the way. As the admirers of Thatcher continued to rehash the same old trite and as the powers that be in the media fall into line, only fair the truth should be revealed to counter the attempted white wash of history from the times even if offensive to the right. No ulsers on my part I can assure you.

Even stronger views on the whole Thatcher era being white washed into a Tory propaganda session. Your kicking a tin can mentioning Skargill. No Stalin wasn't my hero either. Was Hitler yours? My views on the redistrubtion of wealth???? Yeah right..

Ah, a voice from the rabid right speaking on behalf of the masses again. Brainwashed and ever so deluded. Sadly all too typical of that side of politics. WE know what is best for you, take your medicine and keep it shut. Shame the games been sussed and many are thinking perhaps there's more to life than greed.

You have a very dim view of human nature, if you think the over riding principle to living a happy and successful life is through greed and manipulation then.

Scargill reminded me of Thatcher come to think of it. Stubbon, egotisic, full of own importance, power driven..well you get the picture. While he done damage to his union, Thatcher on the other hand inflicted her ideology on an entire nation.
