  1. I like the look of freo, but I want to be a reasonable drunk taxi ride from CBD bars. I'm going crazy now... so much to do, so little time. I've learned red wine helps to decorate...
  2. Slowly slowly. After a few scary hiccups (the company I’ll be working for went silent for a week!) I’m in the final throws of sorting. My UK house is destroyed by me sorting before movers come. I’m giving in an paying a cleaner when I leave. Movers due Tuesday (and of course I’m away tomorrow until Monday), then fly the following Tuesday. I’ll be there by Easter! Anyone know any dirt cheap rent-a-bomb style places in Perth? My lease car won’t be sorted for a week or so, and I don’t want to be bored over Easter stuck in an apartment in South Perth. Scary/excited/terrified...
  3. Thanks Drumbeat. The reality, nerves and emotions have now hit hard... what the hell am I doing? Giving up an amazing group of friends, non-profits I run and am emotionally tied to and aging parents for sun and money... It'll pass. Just started my gardening leave. It's going to be a long month before I jump on the 16 hour flight.
  4. So, Visa arrived in record time - looking to come the week before easter! Seen a cool looking warehouse conversion ion East Perth - what's that area like?
  5. Nomination submitted 8th Feb Questions and request for contract 12th Feb Nomination Approved 14th Feb Visa application submitted 14th Feb Granted 19th Feb. Agent and accredited. I’m in shock! Resigning my job in a few days.
  6. Nomination submitted 8th Feb Questions and request for contract 12th Feb Nomination Approved 14th Feb Visa application to be submitted 15th Feb Accredited sponsor and visa agent doing all paperwork.
  7. Here’s to hoping. After a month of messing around, HR are writing my contract and I hope to start application on Friday! With my notice period, I aim to move over Easter. I’m told this is doable by my company, saying they usually get them in 2-3 weeks.
  8. Are they an accredited sponsor who process a lot of 457s? Ask HR to speak to their agent to get a projected timeline from them. They’ll know the companies standing.
  9. Are you eligible for a working holiday visa? I’m sure others will jump in on if that’s doable. I moved over before with a 4 months contract and a W H visa. That was a while back. I’m currently dancing the HR tango, back and forth on details, delaying my 457 application. They need references before doing a contract, and they keep forgetting time zones and wondering why references aren’t answering the phone at 6am! They are confident for an expedited application (they are accredited and process quite a lot of them), otherwise they’ll need to make a plan for me to work remotely from UK employed in UK temporarily. Never easy!

    Best bank

You can open a westpac account from the UK if you want to have it in place! They have a branch in that there London. I didn’t compare last time I moved, I need the account open for cash immediately. They had my card in the Brisbane branch when I landed and made a PIN on the spot with a magic PIN machine.
  11. I’m pretty sure as a condition of 457, they can’t claim visa costs off you (i.e. you cannot buy a 457). Relocation package is subject to negotiation. If they terminate you or your visa expires, their minimum liability is to fly you home. Your stuff could in theory be stranded if you didn’t have he money to send it back.
  12. My understanding is that it involved 1) Having an Accredited Sponsor and 2) A business need to process fast. The company can request to the DIBP, which takes a few weeks to get looked at, then it;s sorted in days,
  13. One of the exact reasons I’m taking this job! No more global remit. I’ve been know to have meetings in Peru on a Monday, Zambia Wednesday and England Friday then back to Southern Africa the next Monday. Economy class. Australia’s a long flight, but I’m very used to it!
  14. Got mine through Seek, but I’m a specialist and they knew they’d have to import. Depending on your skills find a good specialist recruiter to make friends with!
  15. Cheers. I’ll do some research. My main office would be Maddington, with quite a bit in CBD and flying away a lot (east coast meetings). Vic Park was a ‘pin in a map’ job. Yes, I’ll be renting out my UK house (no profit from renting due to awe full mortgage, but I like the security). I’ll be in a 4 year visa, but the aim to to stay to become a citizen. I’m very tempted to head over for a week when I start my gardening leave. C’mon fast turn around visa.
  16. Thanks! They’ve offered 1 month accom, but my container will be 3- so unless I can push them I’d be in AirBnBs for a while! Anywhere south of river but not too far from CBD that’s a good balance of nice/affordable? 2-3 bed is perfect.
  17. Well, Tonight I’ve accepted a job offer, I’m slightly terrified! I’ve lived in Liverpool for 4 years, own a small house and have a huge group of amazing friends. I always knew I’d move away sometime, this is the longest I’ve been anywhere. I’m a compulsive explorer and mover. I’m heading to Perth to manage a company, they assure me that the visa agent says as they are accredited it’s 2-3 weeks (priority based on business need). I’m skeptical, but with my notice period I could be there in 2 months!! Due to location of two offices, frequent flying and wanting a decent social life, I’m looking around Vic Park. Has anyone any tips? Are the surrounding suburbs OK? Can you get a decent house (not apartment) that’s quite modern inside for ~$400 PW? So many are proper Aussi 1980s throwbacks I see online!! Are there any rugby (union) clubs that play at a somewhat social level in the area? Im a bit rubbish and my commitment waivers with work, but it’s a big part of my life. Minds running at a million miles an hour slightly terrified of leaving my good life, but i never miss an opportunity and can’t live with ‘what could have been’?
  18. Eek, DIBP has updates lead times. Last month 75% in 88 days, now it's 7 months! Should be lodging next week after dotting the T's and crossing the I's on my job offer - they say as accredited, the agent thinks 3 weeks is doable! I'm nervous! If it's 7 months, I think i'll find myself with a rescinded job offer....
  19. I’m aware, having researched it seems possible. Am pushing for notated lease/cash up front to get started!
  20. Hi Everyone, Im negotiating an offer for relocating to Perth, a few contacts have given strong ‘don’t undersell yourself’ ‘salaries are on the rise again’ advice. Hopefully my 457 can be fastracked (approved sponsor) and I’d be there in a few months after some gardening leave. I’d be managing a business unit of a mining services company in Oz and surround countries. Does a anyone have any resources to find current salary ranges? Glassdoor is a bit thin I’m finding. Sometimes ‘people in the know’ have access to various databases! Much appreciated if you can. Ive done some cost of living calc’s, for a single person wanting an OK house ($1200-1500 p/m), approx $20k used ute on finance and paying the shortfall between rental income and expenses in the UK (and overpaying mortgage to redo onto a BTL that’s not over 5%!!!). I’d also be liable to ping 9% back to the student loans company and need to assist my parents with annual flights over. I’m aware got bloody expensive it is and how much I’d need to send home, so trying not to be wowed by the difference to UK salary living in NW England!!!
  21. I believe the Character Requirements are less than 12 months in custody with no history of repeat offending and your aren’t deemed high risk. You can find the character requirements on immi website.
  22. Confirmed we'll be applying for classification as Engineering Manager, and they are accredited. Fingers crossed this is an quick and easy process!
  23. Thanks Raul, my mistake I mean visa agent, not MARA. Frustrating there are so many 'it depends' ! I just want to get the ball rolling!
