  1. It's possible to cook Welsh Cakes in a frying pan - just keep the heat down low! Dydd Gwyl Dewi Hapus!!
  2. Thanks for sharing with us! Interesting post!
  3. Would it be worth you contacting DIAC to see what they say? They are the only people that know exactly what they're asking for........ I just wish that it gave the same information on the website and in the booklet! At least you have the option of not using the Partner Skills points - we need them to make 60 points! Good luck, and keep us posted!
  4. Is it an EOI that was started a long time ago, or only recently? I don't dare start an EOI of our own yet, as we'll have a long wait for our AITSL skills results - so I can't see if ours would say the same thing for Partner Skills. I suppose that I am employed by the local county council on their Supply Teacher list, so I may still be ok, as it doesn't state numbers of hours worked, by the looks of things.............
  5. That's what I was wondering. The OP said it's from the EOI, but we are still getting our skills assessed, so haven't got that far yet.......
  6. What a nightmare! It really is hard work for us primary teachers, isn't it? We know that if we make it out, we are taking a huge risk, but one we are willing to take. We did a Teacher Exchange to NSW a couple of years ago, and know that life isn't cheap anymore out in Oz, which doesn't help, but we have a real 'pull' to go back........... Good luck to you too, and keep us posted!
  7. I'm confused by this, as nowhere on the Visa information (including the booklet) does it say about working for the last 12 months, so why does it come up on the EOI? It says it for the main applicant, but not for Partner Skills. Worried now, as I am hoping to get an essential 5 points for Partner Skills, but I only work part time..........
  8. Hairdresser is on the Western Australia list.......
  9. Has your husband been assessed by AITSL as an Early Years teacher, or Primary? Interested, as we're both Primary teachers...... We've sent our paperwork off to AITSL, and now on the long wait for a decision.......
  10. Have you looked at the website for AITSL? It's the organisation for getting your teaching skills assessed for migration. You need to make sure you meet their criteria, otherwise it could all be in vain! 'Primary School Teacher' is only on WA skills list at the moment, Early Years are on lots of State lists, but have extra criteria on AITSL assessment I think. Good luck!
  11. Hi Sorry, can't answer all your questions, as we are primary school teachers, not secondary. However, we are getting our teaching skills assessed to emigrate at the moment. Have a look at the AITSL website (teacher skills assessment for Oz) http://www.aitsl.edu.au/assessment-for-migration.html and it may help to answer some of your questions about PGCE and teaching experience. Good luck, and hopefully someone else will be able to answer your other queries............
  12. Well, posted AITSL forms today (teacher skills assessment), so a long wait now until they say yes or no! Their website says 14 weeks........
  13. Think it depends on where you are. We did a teacher exchange in NSW (Primary School) and found the standard pretty similar to the UK. The 11 year olds certainly weren't getting '5 + 7' or 'what's the time' as homework. My youngest daughter was in Year 6, and had weekly homework that had a variety of tasks. She's also a bright girl, and she actually flourished in Australia!! I'm sure different people have had lots of different experiences though!

    Hi there...!

When we lived in Oz for 8 months (teacher exchange), we did a lot more BBQ meals (especially out on the public BBQs - free cooking!). People cook all sorts of things on BBQs, not just sausages and burgers............ The supermarkets are expensive, so I used to go to the local fruit and veg market (open every day) and buy from them. They had bargain shelves too, with produce close to going off, but still edible, although you had to call in regularly to see what was on offer. I also did a lot more home cooking, partly because I had the time, and partly because it was cheaper!
  15. It's on the 'Home' channel (Sky 246) at midday tomorrow. Not sure if it's on Freeview - we don't get a lot of the normal Freeview channels, as we're quite rural........
  16. Rupert is one of the site moderators.......... and has been a great help to me already!
  17. Hi Rebekah, You might be better off starting a new thread with your question. Others who've been through it could give you advice, such as checking how many points you can achieve with your qualifications / age etc., getting your skills assessed, doing the IELTS English test etc. There's lots to do before putting in an EOI........... This is a great site for getting help and information. Good luck!
  18. But surely that's after getting a positive skills assessment from the AITSL? I'm right at the beginning, and doing the skills assessment. On the AITSL application form that says 'Effective 1 January 2013', it just says that you need a statement of employment, not payslips or references, but maybe I should send a payslip?! Trouble is, I won't get it back, as they don't return things,, and won't accept certified copies..........
  19. Do you meet all their requirements - score of 7 in each band of IELTS, minimum 3 years experience etc.? Good luck!
  20. Seems to be on the SA list, but asks for 6.5 in each band of IELTS. Can't see it on the WA list.
  21. I can't see anywhere on the AITSL application form that you need references......... Where does is say that, as I don't want to leave anything out!?! We've got an employment statement from the County Council that employs my husband, which we need for the Skilled Employment Statement. We both graduated in 1992 (!!), and have got letters from our universities stating that there is no module information on their computers, as it was so long ago.......... !
