  1. more to go....I think there is a beatles song. get back to where u once belonged
  2. im right google says 2.10 tonight.
  3. Your lucky, I used to work in Richmond and it used to drive me mad getting out there from South Cross... Got a job in Geelong now so its no issue but I would have loved a job at NAB, Ethiad, Channel 9, AGL etc near to Southern Cross.
  4. HI from my one year experience looking for work, the jobs seem to be mostly fill by the end of October. Most jobs seemed to be Aug-Sep time..
  5. My wife was at a similar stage in her career to your girls when she made the move, 2 years experience. Moved to Victoria thought to a private school, she is enjoying teaching a lot more, less red tape no ofstead stress. Money is better, kids are better, she went from 21,000 pounds to $75,000
  6. Agree Grants are unfair. Used to see students who were "well off" struggling because parents weren't supporting them although they were assessed on their income... then people on grants living it up at tax payers expense. No grants, pay it off when you start work
  7. How much cash do you have? Mount and Glen Waverly have got crazy expensive as all the Chinese are buying it up. I used to live near Eltham, that was a great place to grow up. Now live in Geelong which I also really like. If you can get a house near the station its pretty fast getting into Melbourne and the houses are loads cheaper.
  8. I would say depends on the uni, I went to uni in Australia... one unit I got 49%, result, fail... had to redo the entire modual again.. The Uk uni I worked at, pass mark was 40%, if someone got 39% they would be given an opportunity to either resit an exam or in some cases resubmit an assignment to make up the extra marks.
  9. hi my wife went dirextly to full registration. organised from uk prior to move . she had her principle fill in a form showing how she met standards
  10. we will see , I think we will cut interest rate more in Australia that will send the rate up more
  11. Wrong, its going to 2.10 in the next month or two
  12. I buy house in 2007 100,000 pounds ($260,000).... I move to Australia house 2013 at this point is worth 100,000 ($140,000).. I sell now for a quick sale at 90,000 pounds ($180,000 dollars).. I am concerned that I am going to have to pay CGT on 40,000 aussie dollars, when in reality I have made loss
  13. This is a big concern to me, I came over when it was 1.4 to the pound... If I sell I will sell for a loss or a break even in pounds, but now the pound is back up to 2:1 is that going to mean I have to pay CGT even tho I have made a loss, that's a kick in the teeth.. Especially when the money for the deposit came over from Australia at 2:20- 1 in 2009...
  14. To be fair, it is much easier if your a hot female, all of my attractive female friends got jobs with just one day of walking around inner city bars and restaurants.
  15. Its alway really hard to get a job from the otherside of the world. Its not impossible but probably an unrealistic chance.
  16. Tommyers From memory (and my memory is often bad) there was a form that could be downloaded from the VIT website which my girlfriend gave to the head master to fill out. As for the CRB check, I think my wife used the one she had to get for visa application purposes, it was a few months old but was fine
  17. Just my two cents, again it only my personal circumstances but I had the agents in for valuations for a sale this week. Now the currency is starting to return to a more normal value. Renting it out from Australia has been a real pain... its not in a great area tho so its very hard to get a quality tenant.
  18. Depends where you lived I guess, if u live in a nice part of England I think there not much in it, weather being the deciding factor maybe if you don't like the cold. We came from Wolverhampton and its so much better here in Australia than that, not financially, just nicer, cleaner, less scum bags. Make sure you research your husbands job, might be a lot of hoops to jump through to get qualified here.
  19. two options I think, they recently brought in a longer visitor visa for parents... or they come here then apply onshore for the parent one ( you dont need to get the expensive one) its got something like a 50 year waiting time but you can get put on bridge visa if applying onshore.
  20. I vote the Geelong area as well.
  21. I am pretty sure I have seen people on here say there is demand for early years... but I will wait for some experts..
  22. People I know who live mostly speak highly of it. There is a train station now which has improve transport links but I think peak hour traffic is pretty bad for those driving. They just opened a new shopping center near the train station, it isn't that big yet but is sure to grow in time.
  23. It is more expensive but I think people like nurses and teachers get paid more than enough to make up for the difference. The good thing about Geelong is the housing is a little cheaper. ARe you going to live with family
  24. Yeah on the back of two years experience she went from £21,000 ish to $70,000 ish
  25. Hi that is not exactly true, my wife came over on a partner visa and she didn't have to do AITSL assessment, that's only for people going down the skilled migration route I think. Other visas such as the working holiday visa also allow you to teach without AITSL.. you only need that for your visa, not to be able to teach, for that, you just need to register in your state
