  1. Hi Sammy1, I gathered that working in a nursery will be easier than finding a job in a school. I'm actually an early years trained teacher so I should be ok. I have looked on seek.com and there are lots of job opportunities for teaching in nurseries so I'm not that worried. I have two friends who have recently just moved over to the Gold Coast too and they have managed to secure themselves teaching jobs. I suppose its how you put yourself out there.
  2. Hi everyone, myself and my partner have just had our visa granted so we will be moving in April . I was just wondering if anyone knew what early years teaching is like in the Gold Coast? What are the job opportunities like at the moment? Thanks Kim xx
  3. Hi, My partner and I are moving to Australia in April. We are both going to go and stay with my parents for a few months until we get sorted with jobs ect.. I am 28 years old and my partner is 26, I was just wondering if any other young couples were over in this area? any tips for settling in? p.s My parents live in Surfers Paradise! Kim xx
  4. Thank you everybody for all of your replies -not the replies I was actually wanting but thank you for your honesty. I feel like my dreams of moving to Oz have been shattered. We are just waiting for our visa to be granted now and was hoping to make the move in December. I am now re thinking as I really do not want to be unemployed when I have a very good and secure teaching job here in the UK.
  5. Thank you Bung, is it just Gold Coast where jobs are very rare or is it in general in Australia? What about Brisbane?
  6. Hi everybody! I am just wondering if anybody could help me. Myself and my partner are planning to move to Australia in December ( hopefully if our visa gets granted by then). I am just wondering what the teaching prospects are like over there? I am a primary school teacher and I am wanting to know the possibility of getting a job in Queensland ( Gold Coast). I have had mixed messages in the past so I am wondering what the market is like now. Thank you Kim
  7. Hi everybody, I am just wondering if anybody out there is a primary school teacher? I am currently waiting for my visa but will hopefully be making the move in August. I am just trying to look at finances and I am wondering if anybody could help me with teachers wages. I have been qualified 5 years. How much am I likely to bring home a week/ month? Kim
  8. I really don't fancy teaching in a secondary school - not my area . Does anybody know about positions in early years, are these easier to get?
  9. Hi everybody, I have just been reading some of your posts. I have a three year degree in Early Childhood studies and a PGCE primary 3-7 years. I have put my application in to AITSL too. I am just wondering about jobs over there as primary jobs seem to be very scarce at the moment, are you all hoping to go in to teaching primary or working in a nursery?
  10. I really don't want to change careers Bungo as I absolutely love teaching. Plus I wouldn't know what else to do. There seems to be a lot of people securing secondary jobs in teaching, it just seems to be primary that is the problem.
  11. I have visited the Gold Coast twice as my parents live there (surfers paradise). I am wanting to be near them when I emigrate to Australia , that's why I have chosen the Gold Coast. I live in Nottinghamshire in the UK ( not much to do) It sounds like it took your hubby a while to get a permanent position in a school. There is a lot to consider, as a getting a job is very important to me. I have already tried getting a career break but they said they do not allow it any more Not good news!
  12. It does sound that getting a teaching job in a primary school is very difficult - not what I'm wanting to hear Its a very hard decision to make, do I give up a full time permanent job to go and live somewhere a lot nicer but struggle to find a job or do I stay in the UK
  13. Career breaks are not given any more so it would mean me leaving for good. I have read on a few sites that many Aussie trained teachers struggle to get a job, that's why I decided to put this thread on to see other peoples views.
  14. Are temp jobs easy to come across and what is the likelihood of the positions becoming permanent?
  15. Thank you for that Bungo. I am slightly worried now as I have already started my visa application! How far in to the out back so you think I would need to be to make sure I secure myself a teaching position?
