  1. Congrats. NT is amazing and you will get to experience things other people only ever read about.
  2. Are you aware of the stringent regulations in Australia for what you are proposing?
  3. Yes Hun that's one of the normal (and very effective) ways they deal with it.
  4. I suppose if I am honest the first thing I wondered when reading your post was if your parents are simply playing a trick on you as part of their campaign to control you. Either way I think your first priority is to your husband and children so if I was in your shoes I wouldn't change the plans my little family had made. If you do I don't think you will ever move regardless of what you plan to do.
  5. You should head south as well and check out the Illawarra, Shoalhaven, Eurobodalla, and Sapphire Coast. These areas have a good mix of beautiful beaches, little towns and temperate rain forests. Then there is the Southern Tablelands as well with picture postcard scenery and quaint towns. Actually there are heaps of other lovely areas as well in the west. Places like Yass and Wagga as well as the Dubbo region etc.
  6. That will make a nice change for you lol We are having a BBQ and backyard cricket etc OR going to the beach for a picnic and beach cricket etc. Haven't decided yet - OH keeps changing his mind :twitcy:
  7. Some of us have achieved a more well rounded existence and enjoy lots of sand and water while also managing to do other things lol
  8. Pity them Hun - they are obviously unhappy and dissatisfied with their own situations otherwise they wouldn't bother commenting.
  9. As an employer I really hope not - there is nothing worse than being mucked around by migrants who apply for roles and then stuff around trying to work out what they really want to do after an offer is made. It's a huge waste of everyone's time (and money).
  10. You don't sound ready to migrate to me and 12 months is little more than an extended holiday so I think you should stay where you are. I have to say I'm surprised you think your mum is lovely if she has sent you to coventry and is treating you dismissively.
  11. As you know Fi we are planning to 'do' WA this year and next starting with Margaret River. We are planning several trips so I will keep an eye on this thread. It's such a big and varied state I think you could spend several years looking around before you ran out of things to do and see.
  12. I'm a bit surprised by some of the comments on this thread and wonder how much experience (if any) some posters have actually had of Dubbo. For what it's worth Lisa I really like Dubbo. I've never lived there but like Wakeboard I know people who do and they are very happy there. Both the federal and state governments are investing in Dubbo and it is growing with new people moving into the area. It is a regional hub and has a great vibe. The people are very friendly and welcoming and there is a real feeling of a town 'on the move' about the place. I don't think you will have any trouble finding work but your husband may have to go back to getting his hands dirty. It does get hot in summer but it's a dry heat so doesn't feel as bad as areas with high humidity although I expect you will want air conditioning. Winter temps are cold but I doubt you will think it is very cold coming from the UK. Unlike many migrants who gravitate to the capital cities you will get to see and experience something different and for what it's worth I think your experience will be far richer. There is a community spirit in Dubbo and the region around it that is hard to put into words. It isn't going to be like anything you have experienced but I would be interested to see if you want to move after your two year obligation period. I won't be surprised if you decide to stay in the area.
  13. For me it is Whitehaven beach in the Whitsunday Islands. A close second is Hyams beach in the Shoalhaven. Neither are any good for surfing but both are simply breathtakingly beautiful. I think Hyams is famous for having the whitest sand in the world but it is also incredibly soft - a bit like baby powder really.
  14. Glad you are getting it sorted Tina. My doctor checks me from head to toe at least once a year (including places that don't see the sun). It's something people should ask their GP to do if they don't suggest it themselves. Most surgeries (that I have ever visited) have had at least one doctor who specialised in early skin cancer detection.
  15. You might like Glenmore Park which is close to Penrith.
  16. I would be interested to know which hospital(s) you have worked in.
  17. Welcome home MTT. Glad to hear things seem to be going smoothly
  18. What is the source you are using for the stat and projection?
  19. His work is amazing. You can see more at his website if you are interested. http://www.thefrothlab.com.au
  20. Sydney and Melbourne if you have PR and excellent experience.
  21. Best record stores? I like JB Hi Fi Places to see local bands? ANU Union Bar and Trinity Bar in Dickson Where to watch Scottish footie? if you mean soccer you can watch local games at most ovals in winter - google ACT Soccer for info Where to watch American football? if you mean Gridiron there are two local teams I think - google ACT Gridiron for info Anyone know of a fiddle society? There is one called the Canberra Scottish Fiddlers (might be others but doubt it) Any 'new to town/expats social groups? There are some Poms on here who get together now and then but you could also google Canberra Connect to find general social event for people wanting to meet new people and what's going on around town. Good softplays? I don't have small children but have seen them at most shopping centres - google soft plays in Canberra. I can see the attraction if you want to break up a shopping trip for the kids but even in winter the days in Canberra are usually sunny and perfect for kids to play outside in the extensive network of parks and playgrounds throughout Canberra. First 'wow, we're not in the UK anymore' experience? I'm an Aussie
  22. Only 'conviction' to date however he also faced numerous charges relating to crimes committed shorty after he arrived including from his time working as a “spiritual healer” – including 22 counts of aggravated sexual assault and 14 counts of aggravated indecent assault – and had been bailed for allegedly being an accessory to the killing of his former wife. When Monis, who was also known as Mohammad Hassan Manteghi, appeared in court in October over the sex assault allegations, police charged him with 40 additional offences. Personally I think jail would have been a perfectly reasonable place for someone like him to be held pending his trial(s).
  23. Stace are you on Pinterest? If you put Australia into the search function it comes up with lots of great places to visit and has some beautiful photos.
