1. Northerbird, I am very sorry to hear about your daughter. I hope she is OK  At the moment, another thing ticked off of the "To Do List" makes me happy
2. What a place to sit and comtemplate Fi:yes:
3. Love this thread - some really good uplifting stories - Thanks Mods:wink: Kate - I could not read fast enough when you were describing when Yasi hit the North Coast. I hope you are on the mend:hug:
4. I did think about this as well. I checked with our shippers and they said OK as long as they are not highly flammable so I have taken the chance and packed a box full. Time will tell I suppose:err:
5. We have used these for bedding. We have put the items into the storage bags and then into boxes. Some shippers say not to use plastic as the items could sweat and then cause mildew.
6. We completed a P85 and received tax rebates a couple of weeks later when we left for Spain. http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/cnr/p85.pdf
7. Hi, We got them from www.kenable.co.uk. We got them just to get us started. There will be so much to do upon arrival, that we are just trying to get as organised as possible and are trying to have basic things to hand so that we are not traipsing round shops looking for items, impulse buying, whilst also trying to sort out the paperwork and look for a new home. We arrive on 9 Oct and have a short term apartment booked in Yorkine for 4 weeks. We are hoping this is enough time to secure a long term rental. We wanted to be close to the CBD for ease and central enough to go NOR, SOR, East and West etc. Wishing you the best of Luck too Lorraine xx
8. No, one thing we have not been asked to do. I have ordered 10 Aussies adaptors online at a cost of £10 to keep us going whilst OH changes everything over.
9. We are self packers. Although we have packed our boxes, the shippers are packing the actual container for us. OH preferred this as they are the experts. I agree, it is hard work. We had no choice as we are moving from Spain to Perth via the UK. We also wanted our house rented out before we left Spain so had to "get it looking good" without boxes, so our boxes and furniture are in storage at the moment. We have found it pretty simple to pack things in our own time, although in 40 degree heat, it has been very tiring. I could not imagine shippers coming into my house and packing everything in two or three days, for us it would have been very stressful. We packed each room at our leisure at weekends and when we have had time. I would really look into the insurance for self packers. We had a bit of a mare getting insurance for breakables. We have now agreed with the insurance company that any breakables will be checked and if necessary re-packed by our shipper on the day of collection and our shipper will confirm this in writing. Good Luck
10. Congrats to You All. Enjoyed the Footie and your Ruby.
11. We are shipping our PC in the container. The pad and laptop are going in the hand luggage. I am a bit of a technophobe, but I think if it were me Hon, I would be doing what I needed to do in the UK whilst I had the time. I have now come to realise that everything came from China in a container on a ship so if things are packed properly they will be OK going back East in a container on a ship:wink:
12. We went with the Commonwealth. We were very undecided. We had been with the Commonwealth previously many years ago, so we thought better the devil you know. I completed an online form and was contacted by phone from a migration specialist who opened the account for me. I was then contacted by the migration specialist in Perth who confirmed they had received our funds and they have made an appointment to meet with us to activate the account the day after we arrive. We thought as long as we had an account to begin with, we could always open another one once we are over there if we feel there are better options.
13. Congratulations!!!! Wishing you a Safe journey and the Best of Luck for your future.
14. I am keeping my Hotmail account (too many people know it to change it), but I will also create an Oz one for jobs. This is a link to Tom Tom about uploading the Aussie maps and the cost is £38. https://www.tomtom.com/en_gb/shop/maps/#deviceSelected=19507&mapSelected=AustraliaI We have also bought a Perth Street Map from Amazon to get us started as well at a cost of £6.95 (free delivery).
15. Ah bless, I am sitting here huffing and puffing shuffing bits of paper here, there and everywhere and then I read your post and makes me realise that I have nothing to moan about when you are struggling to get your fur babies' ashes over there. Puts things into prospective. Hope you manage to get them sorted soon
16. The price also depends upon the size of the dog/s. The Hooligans are a Beagle (she is on the small side) and a terrier cross (a tad smaller than a Westie). A Rhodesian Ridgeback is a very big dog. I was sent a breakdown of what was and not included in the price.
17. Thanks Hon. I did a quick online quote with BUPA and it was $63 for both of us and said about a 30% rebate. Has thrown me. We are going to sit down and have a read up. Another thing to add to the List of things to do!:swoon:
18. Don't do what we did!!! We sat down and went through our inventory and put the prices of each box and then added it all up BUT this is not going to be enough. The insurance is new for old replacement, so you need to value how much the items damaged, lost etc would be to replace in Australia. I was advised to look online at anything over the value of £500 and see what those items would cost to replace in Oz. I had our 20ft container valued at 21K and as soon as I said it on the telephone, the guy said, you don't have a full container then:err:so back to the drawing board for us:biggrin:
19. Thanks Hon, I have spoken to both of them, both very helpful. As we are a self pack I am struggling to get breakables insured without the shippers re-packing for us again. I got to thinking how are the Move Cube people getting insurance when they are also self packed.
20.

I know, squeaky bum time!!! Sold the car last night, very sad. I so want to take her with me. I have/had a C4 Coupe and I just love her. Oh well, just sorting out the Trafico now - oh the joys of living in Spain. Hope you are all well. Take care Lols xx

21. For those of you who have sent/will be sending a Move Cube, could you please let me know who you have used/are going to use to insure it please. TIA Lorraine
22. I would like to get Ambo cover for both of us as soon as we can, just in case. Do I have to wait until we are registered with Medicare in order for me to do this? Can I do it online? Who would you recommend to use? TIA Lorraine
23. Yes, we went to Cape Town for a few days and then drove from there to Port Elizabeth (beautiful scenery). We were warned about Cape Town and what it would be like by a South African who I worked with so we were prepared for what we would see. Although we had a fantastic holiday, it is not somewhere that we would ever choose to live. All the time we were in Cape Town, we felt uneasy, but the towns on the Garden Route felt very different.
24. Having lived in Spain for the last 8 years, this does not surprise me.:biglaugh: They have built a water desalination plant not far from us, but it cannot be used as there is not enough room on the Grid to run it:confused:
