  1. hi everyone- lodged my AoS on 9.10.14 - they rang my daughter 5 days later - lodged the Bond on 17.10.14 - approved 20.10.14. this is Sydney if it helps at all & I am onshore
  2. People might be a bit reluctant to do that- but meanwhile you obviously have some inkling yourself from your research of what's expected- so draft it yourself using the guidelines you've found & send it to her ? Sounds like you need to push her a bit!
  3. Dude- if your situation is the same the answer is probably the same
  4. Points test and skills assessment □ Applicants who are required to meet the points test must provide evidence to support their claims against each relevant criterion. □ Evidence that the main applicant has, at the time of invitation, obtained a suitable skills assessment in their nominated occupation on the relevant Skilled Occupation List (SOL).
  5. haha no then! it's taking about 18m I think.....maybe someone who's in the process will be able to confirm that for you, but unless a miracle happens after June & they reduce the grant times drastically , no chance. What was their acknowledgement date btw? (rather than lodgement)
  6. It does seem to be taking a bit longer atm...but shouldn't be anywhere near that late in the year. Shouldn't really be taking nearly 2 years surely! Maybe now you've voiced it you'll have triggered the process by positive thoughts get your parents to email & ask if it's time to do PCC & Health checks yet? that might help...
  7. Considering how quickly (well relatively!) these 103's are being processed now, I'm wondering why it's taking longer than ever for the 143's?
  8. That's brilliant news for you- congratulations & hope you're celebrating!

Hi Jodi= you need to check the Skilled Occupation List (SOL) to see if your occupations are listed; & http://www.immi.gov.au/skills/skillselect for the visa process & which visas might be an option for you
  10. Love your happy attitude Bobj- hope you had a good birthday
  11. That's the thing CommanderMaxil- it's impossible to predict what will happen when your child takes off on a WHV or other temporary "holiday" - like some of the other mums here my daughter ended up staying & will soon have Citizenship. Her own child is a little Aussie now, and the only thing we can do is have a little weep now & again, because the pain of missing them is huge- but embrace the situation on the whole since they have chosen a great new life- & if it wasn't great they'd have come back Instead ,the lucky ones of us will go & join them, & I for one am so grateful for the opportunity to have my retirement over there, once the visa grief is over with. Like you Kath (Fisher1) I couldn't ever successfully hide my feelings from my daughter- certainly not when leaving her at the airport, & she'd be more upset if she thought I wasn't ! But regular visits there & Facetime & the rest make it easier as others have said- you can see their surroundings- talk to the partners & the babies, & feel like you're arriving home when you get back there! Loves & support to all the other mums - & dads- - & thanks to all our offspring who recognise what a hard job it is to love you but watch you go so far away.
  12. yes Merry Christmas everyone:xmas24: I'll be landing Sydneyside Boxing Day morning- whoopee!!!
  13. aah he's just playing with you-WR's an agent (see his signature) so has probably got a few of these on the go ! It must seem like an interminable wait for you- but hopefully it won't be too long. This visa game demands a lot of patience! Wonder if it's possible to extend his Visitor visa till such time as you have to leave for validation?
  14. What is it that makes you think that though- is that pure speculation ? or do you know something is in the offing? The thing is that while it remains legal to "skip" states, people are free to do so , much as it might p*ss off those who toe the line....the vast majority of people respect the moral obligation I imagine...or maybe not; they just don't talk about it, they just move on. It's up to Immi to close loopholes; otherwise they're there to be exploited, & personal opinions make no difference as long as it's legal.
  15. Just re-read The God of Small Things ( Arundhati Roy1997 but sooo good- ) & A Thousand splendid Suns (Khaled Hosseini who also wrote the Kite Runner (also brill...) now on Someone Else's Garden, Dipika Rai.. my theme this year has been all things Eastern! loved The Book Thief too btw...
  16. Those are pretty extreme views- Terrible idea ? bad nurse? ignore them.........any nursing experience, wherever it's completed is good experience. I know one nurse who works almost exclusively in Prison hospitals- & they're always short-staffed. So keep on doing what suits you. Also loads of agency work available. Depends on your preferred area of course, but who said you need a full year's experience anyway- once qualified you can go down the 189 route. Have a look at the visa wizard & skillselect. You'll be on your way before you know it.
  17. Read this again so the answer is yes. You can enter anytime up to 6th April. For 3 months.
  18. SGHJLL let's focus on the xbox situation for a minute ( I'll bear on mind all the other stuff on your list- thanks for the suggestions- but my son of course is only concerned that his x-box will work ok!) ie will the games he buys over there be compatible with the box he bought here- & should he but the new xbox1 here or when we get there? same reason
  19. Yes, have you looked at the new tourist visas for parents? makes it much easier to spend time with the family you're going to join ( as long as we can afford to go off-shore on a regular basis/annually.) Would be good to know how long you would have to actually leave for- can't get any info on this, but it might be that it's only long enough to process a new Visitor visa app.
  20. hi mamarock...you can email at parents@immi.gov.au you'll have a while to go yet as you know from 2008, but don't hesitate to ask for an update on your own situation , I found them very helpful.
  21. Their info to me was in response to a personal query- so although I obv do not have a CO yet, I was linked to a Case Worker who updated me on the current situation. It will still be fingers crossed all the way for all of us I think, as things do change, but just as the Last Remaining Relative waiting time changed drastically in the past couple of years ( not in a good way I might add!) the 103 seems to have done something positive
  22. I am reliably informed by DIBP that the processing time for the 103 visa is now 6-7 years. They are processing 2007 applications currently. Take no notice of the figures on the immi sites...
  23. You could be in for a great Christmas present tho- fingers crossed!
  24. Hi Samantha & welcome ! I've only visited Sydney so far rather than lived there but it feels like home after a few hols with my own family Others will give opinions on schooling etc; always a tricky one with teenagers- I'll have one too to settle in, I think determination is the key! The time taken to process a visa depends on various factors such as how efficient you are at getting skills assessment/IELTS etc done & getting the invitation to apply- also whether you have an agent advising you. you'll get lots of advice here anyway. All the best.
