  1. Will depend on the trade, whether the employer has sponsored before, whether or not you have sent in chest xrays and all your references and police checks. Ours was ready to go and took 6 days, employer had a history of sponsoring 3-4 people a year. If the emploer has not sponsored, and you have only included some docs or not had them certified it could take a while.
  2. Hi there, do you allready have a sponsor etc? I was on a 457 for nearly two years in a regional area, we applied for and got an onshore rms visa 6 months ago. Ask away
  3. I would get everything certified and copies made etc, get your chest xray done asap etc. Ours fell through but the second one where we had all our docs together took 6 days from application to grant -)
  4. Yep, have 2 fan heaters on through the night just ticking over, when you get used to 40c in the Alice, 1c does seem a little `fresh`
  5. Townsville just south of there would probably be the best better bet, good luck with the search, we were heading that way but it fell through. Scuba heaven.
  6. Well done. We moved with about 10 days notice, we had packed ready to move to Cairns when it all fell through at the last minute. Found another sponsor within a few days and moved inside 10, was very hectic, company put us up in a really nice 5 star hotel which really helped.
  7. Well, at least you have the visa. I would reccomend job first, you can allways move a year down the track. Good luck with it.
  8. well done you, now time to get busy-)
  9. Hi there, good luck with the move. where you live will depend on which end of Perth the job is. Mandurah/Rockingham with good train and freeway access good be worth a look, and cheaper than Perth.
  10. When the company gains the go ahead to sponsor, its not just you, they gain the right to bring in up a dozen people and gain approved employer tag I believe. Migration will want to see copies of wage runs to make sure no one is earning below the award wage etc
  11. Hi mate, I have forwarded you Cv to the bosses.
  12. I would reccomend a Perth based company in your line, VEEM, they are busy and I think thay have sponsored before. Good luck with it mate.
  13. Some people spend from day one comparing oz and the uk. Very different places. Of all the coutries you can move to, same queen, simaler traditions, tv and papers in the same language , its the least alien of all the coutries you can move to. You buy your digestives, pg tips and watch the antigues roadshow. Or you can just concentrate on the differences, I cant buy the express, my house doesnt have central heating, cars are more expensive etc. Choice is yours, but was a good move for us, we started the process before the global crisis, I left a job that it turned out I was about to made redundant from, my familly went from within 6 weeks of us arriving saying oh no! To you have made a great choice and good luck with it.
  14. We became parents here in Alice springs, which was a bit of a suprise to us. We were on a 457 and as poms had reciprocal card from medicare. Great midwives practice here for the check ups etc. Hospital caters for a very large area and is a bit oversize for what is needed. Great staff and wards etc. Birthplan was out the window though, from minor backache to birth was less than 3 hours. Afterwards, own room, great care etc. Only difference is that midwives don`t really see anything else except breast feeding as normal. lactation specialist based at the hospital etc. Best of luck with the pregnancy, my wife would be happy to have another here.
  15. Good luck with the move, if you are moving to a country area you may find that the employer will pay your rent-). I would advise that the job comes first before you get a firm idea of where you want to live etc. A lot of posts here are about people who have found a nice place to live but have no jobs when they get here.
  16. Arrive on an rsms and make that two years -) Good luck with the move. Where in Ireland are you from? We have familly in Waterford. We have been in the NT for nearly two years.
  17. Hi there, sorry to borrow the thread, one my customers at the garage I run in the Nt in Alice springs is looking for sparkies for general electrical work, if anyone is looking for work or a sponsor then I can pass you details on, cheers.
  18. Hi there, there is a good one that rents older but tidy hiaces in Mount Hawthorn north perth, sorry cannot for the life of me remember the name, have used them twice and been happy both times.
  19. My wife had no problems here in the Nt, then there is the fact that there is zero unemployment here that helps -)
  20. Good luck. since its away from the city you should be able get the company to nominate you for a rms permanent visa after you have been with them for a while.
  21. I can get you a start in the Alice if want it -)
  22. Cold and flu relief, one quid in tescoes, same tablet 13 dollars here, roll ons and razorblades-). Good luck with the move.
  23. Lots of mountains -). Small town life and 3 hours to anywhere really. Its a very busy garage despite the location. 1000s of tourists coming through in the cooler months and then quietens down in the warmer months. I have been here a couple of years and still like the place-). Have become a dad here etc. Job is usually suited to ex mechanics, but can be learned on the job with time. Flick me your cv. Are you still in the UK?
