Guest51810
I don't live anywhere near the sea but we have the river clyde near us. Sometimes get flooding in areas. The weather was a big mad last night. Had snow and really strong winds. Windy today and had a bit of rain/hail but I've still had the dog out a walk twice so far and I think I'll go another one tonight. As long as I've wrapped up then it doesn't matter so much
Bristle
Good to see that the weather in the UK is as great as we are kept being told!
vickyplum
Good to see that the weather in the UK is as great as we are kept being told! As I keep telling my partner (despite him living in the UK for 10+ years) when he complains about the weather "what do you expect for February?!". I live less than 5 miles downstream from Richmond and haven't seen any flooding, but I'll get the wellies out in preparation!...
JockinTas
Parts of the USA have FAR worse weather than the UK ever receives. I agree with Stacey, wear the proper clothes and you'll be fine. Its really not that bad.
Guest51810
Although saying that.. I didn't go back out once it rained but while I was out it was just a few showers. Luckily I'll be exercising inside tomorrow instead! Other countries definitely have it worse like America

JockinTas
I left home when I was 16 to train as a vet nurse in the Lake District one of the wettest areas in the UK. The vet I worked for specialised in farm animals and also there was a large horse stud where he often tended to mares and foals there. We were out in all sorts of weather nursing animals out in the fields. It never bothered me much. Rain, howling wind, snow etc .............. probably because I loved the job I was doing. Guest51810
The Lake District made be a bit depressed. It was constantly raining. I'd have a crap day at work and then want to go down the street to escape but I always got soaked. Same with days off. No wonder they all wear walking boots and waterproof trousers lol. Most of it looks lovely though and I'm sure it's extra nice in the summer
Paul1Perth
Not seen any updates lately on the thread about what great winter weather the UK is having. I thought it had started a bit early TBH, lots of months to come when the weather can be bad. My wife's friend rang us at the weekend and said the weather was "bright" and it had picked up a bit. An hour later she spoke to her Sister, who lives in the same village and she said the weather was s*** and it was sleeting.

I think every time we went it was raining and bleak, they charged the Earth for somewhere average to stay and there really isn't a lot to do there apart from sit in the pub when it's raining. That goes out the window when you have kids too. I went for a job interview once in Barrow In Furness. The drive over took me ages as it was foggy most of the way. It cleared as I drove into Barrow and the site didn't fill me with joy. The big shed for the subs dominates the skyline and that's who I'd gone for an interview for. I was staying over the night before the interview and went out for a few beers. It was like one of the bars out of American Werewolf in London, where everyone turns to look at you when you walk in 'cos you're an obvious stranger. I made my mind up I didn't want the job before the interview and asked for so much money the guys nearly fell off their chairs. Told my wife what the place was like when I got home and she said she wouldn't fancy living there.

I lived between Ambleside and Windermere and loved it - can't say the weather bothered me at all and I worked a lot outside. Didn't like Barrow In Furness though. I'm still in touch with the friends I made there. One lives in Sydney and another in Holland and the others I visit when I'm back in the UK. Paul1Perth
That surfer must be desperate. When we were there on holiday a few years ago my eldest is a pretty keen surfer, has about 5 boards. My wife insisted on us going on to Bournemouth pier on a foul, cold, windswept day. We met on holiday there and she was determined to show the kids. I tried to refuse when I found we had to pay to get on but no, she insisted we would have a good time. There were people surfing near and under the pier dressed like that bloke. My son just said why would you bother. If it's not warm enough just for a rashie and shorts then it's too cold he reckons.

Bobj
I remember a news article from the 1950s where a super tide was 72 ft on the north coast of France. The locals went so far out, they were finding old cannon, pistols, coins, etc from the 1600s. Seems a few almost got trapped when the tide was making. Cheers, Bobj.
