wrussell
Wish i new! Then i can join you down the pub! An unrepentant sinner who takes whisky with his dinner and a minister for immigration who does not seem to have given weight to the fact that migrants (skilled and other) historically create more jobs than they take. ptlabs
And the minister's website has been updated with the official announcement (which George so kindly quoted): Government cuts migration program Although we're still waiting for the new CSL to be published on the DIAC website. Also those on PIO are like a drop in the ocean compared to the rest of the migrants in Australia.
Guest yvonne & paul
Reading the press release, it just keeps stating "Critical Shortage List" Does that mean say Bricklaying just isn't critical anymore, but is on the skills shortage and therefore it will just take longer to get? We have just finished a student visa and lodged both Graduate visa online and Family sponsored visa 3 weeks ago. Our Graduate has a case officer but we have not heard anything yet. Does this mean that both our applications will be thrown out and therefore when our student visa expires we have to go back to England???

I'm puzzled - why do you think your application would be thrown out? If you have lodged a valid onshore visa application (ie your Graduate visa application) and meet all the requirements for that visa to be granted all should be well - and you will be granted a Bridging Visa if your existing visas expire before a decision is made. The main issue for you is likely to be securing permanent residency. Is the family sponsored visa a skilled visa application? What is the expected timeline for this visa to be granted? Your visa strategy is certainly not without risk - but it is also not the riskiest strategy I have heard. I recommend you get the process and timelines clear in your heads - relatively quickly. And to do that you may need to instruct (and pay for) a competent migration advisor. Best regards.

I've just told it to go to your user profile and the UP is telling me about a nurse, which is the other couple called Yvonne & Paul. I don't know why the system is confusing both of you in this way. From your post it seems that Paul has been studying Bricklaying? Whereabouts, please? You say you have applied for a family sponsored visa. Have you applied for a subclass 176 visa or for the sc 475 visa, please? If the sc 475, can you get enough points without the family sponsor? Ideally you would want to swap State Sponsorship for your existing Family sponsorship (DIAC make no extra charge for doing the switch and it does not involve a new visa application.) However it might be that you need the 25 points from a family sponsor? Please could you clarify the facts a bit more? Best wishes Gill
Guest Birdiesinoz
The New CSL Can be found here http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/pdf/critical-skills-list.pdf Kind regards Cheryl
George Lombard
The latest on today's developments is that there is a new CSL which the Department is applying and has just put on their website. The only trade occupations remaining on the CSL are aircraft maintenance engineers - avionics and mechanical, gasfitters, wall and floor tilers and electronic equipment tradespersons. A highly unusual combination of occupations. Cheers, George Lombard

Guest yvonne & paul
Hi gobblywobler and Alan Yes I know there is a mix up with the names on here. We are the ones that Paul went on a bricklaying course at the Tafe on the Subshine coast, QLD. He has finished his course and we are still in Australia and have applied for a Graduate visa via our migration agent and we have straight after that applied for a family sponsored skilled visa 886. Both Bricklaying. We have been allocated a CO for our graduate about a week ago. Both visa's have been lodged for about 3 weeks. What I still don't understand Is bricklaying and all these other trades still on a list somewhere that everyone can claim points for?? These trades were put on a critical shortage list not that long ago to speed up the process of these trades that were most in demand. So have they just been dropped from the "Critical" list and are still on another list somewhere ie SSL or MODl so people can still apply but it may take forever?? Alan, the reason I was worried about our application even though it were lodged is because I asked the question would it affect visas already lodged and your reply was that it would. We do have a migration agent and unfortunately on this day of all days, one is abroad and the other sick!!! I will keep you all posted on anything I here from this end. eammon
Yes, applications already lodged are affected. Best regards. Hi Alan I just wanted to say thanks for all the advice on this subject and helping us (me at least!) keep a sensible perspective on what is happening to the CSL. Reading your threads and responses I'm hoping that as we have got State Sponsorship we will be okay. Our CO has requested our meds and pc's which we have to get to him by the beginning of April. One thing in the back of my mind is as we would have to validate or move across to Australia within a year of these checks can we assume that we will be processed within the usual timescales that CO's process once they've received our checks. Thanks Denise
Guest TheHollies
:arghh: just had a look at the CSL list, mechanics have been taken off! We only applied at the beginning of this month. What will happen now?
Alan Collett
You try for State Sponsorship - or I am afraid you must reconcile yourselves to a waiting period that is longer than you were perhaps anticipating. Best regards.

Guest Sebbers
Well having read all the posts I for one feel totally deflated with the latest announcements as I assume do so many others. Whilst my agent has said this won't bear any impact on my application as my trade is still on the modl I cannot see how it won't but I guess time will tell. Once again I feel like the rug has been pulled from under my feet

Guest sair999
Hi Alan, help please! We are one of the lucky ones where my OH trade is still on the CSL list(gas fitter). Does this mean we could potentially go to the top of the pile to get a CO? Wow, they like to stir everybody up over there. I wonder if they know how much grief they have caused over here by announcing theses changes.
Guest Mel.R
I think that it is heartbreaking that they take all of your money to get through the Vetassess and the visa application and then what????? Nothing. What a huge waste of time and money. I think that we have wasted another £730 getting meds and police checks that i suspect will now expire before they even think about looking at the MODL list. I think so many people's dreams are fading fast today.
