870 parents temporary visa

Recommended Posts

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi all,

I am applying for 173 subclass visa for my parents offshore and would be the sponsor child for my parents for that, also meanwhile I will apply for 870 temporary sponsored visa for them as well after I apply 173 visa, for which I will again be the sponsor.

Is there any issue being the sponsor for both applications?

Also I would be looking to sponsor my partner in 1-2 years time ,would this hinder me applying for partner visa while I have already sponsored my parents?

Thanks

Why not apply straight for 143? If you apply for 173 it will take the same amount of time as 143. Then you would have to wait again to get the 143 so it will take longer and cost more.

New applications for either are likely to take nearly 18 years! 66k are already waiting in the queue and only 3600 granted per year. So it’s highly unlikely that 2 x 870  (10 years) would be enough for your parents to stay in Australia till grant of visa. Best to go straight for 143  - you will have plenty of time to save up for that.
To apply for 173 or 143 you need to be PR and have been in Australia for two years. For 870 you need to be PR and settled for 4 years and earn 84k and parents will need private health insurance otherwise as sponsor you will be liable for all Medicare they use

Hi ,

May I please ask if anyone has been recently asked to re-submit their docs for 870 parent visa and re-do medicals. If yes, can you please help us understand how long it took after that for the visa to be granted. Our original submission was made in Feb 2020 and only in Nov 2021 we were asked for to re-submit docs again as some of it were no longer valid. We have completed all the submissions and right now only waiting for invoice for the 2ndVAC, and we were not sure of what to expect next. Any insights will be greatly appreciated.

Hi all,

Just wanted to share a little update - we have finally got our 870 (5y) visas granted on Dec 15th after more than two years of waiting. As the original pre-COVID medical tests had long expired, they've made us re-do the tests.

I guess the trigger for our application review may have been the travel exemption request I have filed online in early November.

Btw, the overseas visitor's health cover (OVHC) prices have gone up significantly since 2019 - from $78 to $112 per person for the Allianz budget cover. Which translates into an increase of +$812 p.a. for two parents. I am wondering if we are getting a good deal on OVHC with Allianz, anyone getting better rates with other insurers? Thanks.

Feel able to ping a private message to me if you'd like details for my contact at BUPA.

Best regards.

Hi Guys,

I have applied 870 parents visa for sponsorship approval on 17th December. Guess its gonna take more than a year, after getting the sponsorship approvals to submitting sponsor application, (according to the website).

Can i apply for my parents Visitor visa in between and bring them over? and if the 870 approved what should i do?  and if the medical or Police clearance required, can i get it from here?

Any suggestions would be much appreciated. parents got no one back in India and i really want them to bring over here.

Thank You in advance,

Naresh Saini

Hi All,

My parent's 870 is nearing its term and I was wondering if there is a minimum time period that I cannot apply for a 600 when her 870 expires?

There is 90 days which needs to be maintained before applying for another 870 but I can't find any other info regarding 600 once 870 expires. Any info will be appreciated

Thanks for Sharing this @LindaH27, quick reading through the blog from @Alan Collett and going through the statements, does this mean if there was no 8503 then an onshore 600 can be applied before 870 expiry. Is that a fair assumption?

If one wants to remain in Australia upon the expiry of an existing 870 visa and is to seek a renewal 870 visa another visa will therefore be required between the two subclass 870 visas.

This might be – say – an onshore visitor visa (subclass 600), or a student visa (subclass 500).

Key in this regard is avoiding the inclusion of condition 8503 No Further Stay on the visa.

Hopefully Alan will advise but I recall he suggested you had to make plans 6-12 months before end date of 870. I’m  guessing  it might be hard to avoid 8503 - immi would know you’d had 870 therefore potentially wanting another ? It would be best to contact @Alan Collett directly as he understands the migration laws.

Hi All,

Any suggestions for Overseas health insurance for over 70 year old?

Thanks

Currently facing the same dilemma.

Allianz seems to be the only available option?

https://www.finder.com.au/870-visa-health-insurance   (ignore the pricing on that page, wildly inaccurate, once you generate a quote on the Allianz website it'll give you actual price)

It's pretty bad.

My parents are moving to a 870 visa from a Subclass 600 visa.  We are also researching what to do about their insurance.  Their current Overseas Visitor Health Insurance from Medibank costs $375p.m and includes medical services provided by a doctor, which are listed in the government’s Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS).

example:

• general practitioner (GP) consultations.
• other medical services provided out-of-hospital (for example, specialists, pathology and x-rays).
• in-hospital medical services provided as part of an Included service (for example, surgeon and anaesthetist fees)
• allied health services billed with an MBS item number (for example, eye checks and services related to chronic disease
management plans), except psychology services.

The equivalent with Allianz is their Standard Visitors Cover for 870 visa - which is about $800pm!  More than twice the cost.

 Has anyone found better coverage?

Unfortunately, it's inevitable that cover for over 70's is going to be much more expensive.  Firstly, the great majority of people over 70 -- even those you'd class as healthy -- are on at least one regular medication (blood pressure tablets, statins, arthritis meds).  That means more prescriptions and more doctor visits to get repeat prescriptions.  They also need more frequent preventive health checks and procedures. They're far more likely to need hip replacements, knee replacements, etc.

I'm almost 70 myself.  I've read the research which shows that even for healthy people, health usually starts a steep decline in the late 60s/early 70s.  I was reluctant to believe it but I'm seeing the evidence amongst my friends now, and in myself!   If your parents aren't having that experience then they're the lucky minority, but of course the insurance companies have to look at their costs and cover themselves.

Thanks for sharing that.  But in this case we are facing a situation where they are paying more for less coverage. If age justifies that much of a premium, we would be charged that already.  Their age and all factors are already considered in the current cover while on Subclass 600 Visitor Visa (Medibank).   Just because the Visa Subclass changes,  it doesn't make sense the premium should double.

Because there are barely any insurance providers for Subclass 870 visa, we are staring at a huge bill that covers less for them with Allianz. Hoping to find out if anyone else on 870 Visa have found other providers outside of Allianz.

Thanks, I contacted BUPA just now.  They said that Cover can't be used for over 70s or for Subclass 870.

However, the 600 visa is a short-term visa and is intended for people who are healthy enough to travel back and forth to Australia for visits. It's also more likely that someone on a 600 visa would wait until they returned home to have any major procedures or routine health checks. One doesn't arrange a routine colonoscopy while on holiday, for instance.  Also they'd be more likely to bring medicines with them on their visits.

Whereas 870 holders are resident in Australia and are going to access medical care as a resident.
