...what point in the process would you advise we put the house on the market we're at the point where we've decided we definitely want to do this so have the whole process to go through, I'm thinking as soon as she gets her AHPRA registration through and can start applying for jobs.

I certainly would not commit large sums of money to marketing your house until you have a firm job offer.

My rationale: firstly, acute health care is largely state funded in Australia (although that is starting to change); secondly we are seeing a shift to the right in state elections in the last few years. Queensland and NSW are the next larger states have elections. If they move to the right ( what you call Conservatives, and we call the Liberals) as is mooted by many, I suspect a reduction in mental health funding, as is usually the case with right of centre parties here.

Hi there can anyone help? Gosh it's all so confusing so I'll just go for it and post all my questions, even if you only know the answers to one part then please any input would be better than none.

1. If I contact a hospital that is willing to sponsor me in WA would I still need the 7 years post grad experience required for a 176, I think i'm right in saying employer sponsor is 457???

2. Am I better going for registration with AHPRA then a modified assessment with ANMC, I believe the skills assessment is purely for DIAC/visa requirements will it still be required for a 457?

3. If I can prove my education etc was in English do I still need to sit IELTS if I try for a 457 instead of a 176?

God my head is spinning there is so much to take in, thanks

Well it's official, I have had the email from AHPRA........

I am now eligible for registration. :arghh::chatterbox::biggrin::arghh:

Its taken nearly 5 months and a lot of phone calls and emails but it's now OFFICIAL.

For all those worrying about diplomas and degrees, I have neither. Is old school but with 17 years experience. Good luck everyone and thanks for all your support over the past few months.

:notworthy::notworthy:

I will be along shortly to give some help with the process for those that are new to this.

It seems my dream will never be reality and i'll be stuck here forever!!!:cry::cry: I have just spoke with a migration agent and to be honest i wish i'd never bothered!! He can't really help/advise much though as i am looking for 457 visa! I am planning sitting my IELTS in Feb. He told me that registration is taking 12 months!! Is this correct? I really wanted to be out there for Christmas!

It's the changeover that's slowed it down and created a backlog but I don't think it will take 12 months. Do you not qualify for a 175/6 ?

I do qualify for 175/176 but I want to have a job secured before i leave uk. So planning going on a 457, as it's the cheapest and quickest option.

There's the ANF (Australian Nursing Federation)

Do they offer the same services as the RCN and how much does it cost?

Hi sorry if this has been posted loads of time before but think the consensus is if you have secondary education in UK you don’t need to do IELTS but how do you PROOVE this ?? I don’t have any records / documentation from my school days. Also I did an access course before going back to uni as mature student would this count as proof? Or does it have to be from being teenager?

I was er a little off the rails when I was that young so slightly lacking in qualifications so what happens if you were enrolled but not actually doing exams?

I think a few people said they just wrote a statement saying their secondary education was in the UK ? Is that allowed or have I just read too many posts and made it up! Any help much appreciated

Sorry to crash in and change the subject completely - but I cant find out how to make a new thread - I was wondering if anyone can confirm or deny what I have been told by an agency - that there is no chance I will get a community post in perth etc. and that they need me to have at least 2 years experience within australian hospital nursing to get to know their system.

Also there are little or no sponsorship opps in Perth at the moment, and therefore I wont be able to get a 457 visa??

does anyone have any info on this, or has recently managed to secure sponorships?

I have nearly 4 years community, 1 years diagnostics and minor injuries experience, 1 years medical, orthopaedic surgical experience and specialist continence nurse experience, and still they are claiming there is no work for me, does anyone have any clue about this cos im starting to panick....

thanks in advance

Andie

HI

Just thought id offer some reassurance for this whole nightmare process of becoming registered as a nurse in oz! I did not sit an IELTS test for my ANMC skills assessment or for AHPRA, i recieved an email back this morning to say im now completed the assessment for AHPRA and just to bring along ID wen i get to oz and i will be registered. I Didnt do very well in secondary school like yourself went with the wrong crowd and didnt do very well qualification wise! I just rang my old secondary school up explained the situation and they sent me confirmation ( couple of lines) to say that i attended an english secondary school put the schools offical stamp on letter and i sent this off. I also attended college for 3yrs and university for 3yrs all english taught, just had documents certified by notary and that was that! This site is very helpful but also confusing regarding IELTS! hope this helps

When did you do your ANMC skills assesment Hayley? Bit confused now on the ANMC website it states this;

6.

English language test results - Full Assessment only

Required document: English language test results posted directly from test centre

All Internationally qualified nurses and midwives who don’t hold current Australian New Zealand registration and are applying for a migration skills assessment are required to successfully complete one of the following English language tests:

Occupational English Test (OET)

The requirement is to do the Nursing version of the test and to achieve a B pass or above in all four sections of the test, in one sitting. The date of the test must be no more than two years prior to the ANMC assessment. Receipt of an original test result directly from Language Australia is required.

International English Language Testing System (IELTS)

The requirement is to complete the Academic version of the test and achieve a score of 7 in all four bands of the test in one sitting. The date of the test must be no more than two years prior to the ANMC assessment. Receipt of an original test result directly from the IELTS Testing Centre is required.
