You mean when the country was being run by militant unions that would strike at the drop of a hat ?

Is that your argument Chris?headlines? the strikes lasted a short period, and were largely over by about feb/march 79,any comments on my points about standard of living being at its highest ever level etc etc? or are you just gonna quote rhetoric?

Iam just listening to that champagne socialist deggsy on the tele .......w.nker .....

I would rather have Maggie .....flag ......country ......royal family ......end of

Better that, than some militant shower of sh.te trying bring the country to its knees

Oh yeah, meant to say bunbury,i lived in digs in Pleck, walsall for a year while i was insulating and concrete repairing some tower blocks in Sandwell, doing cradle work.

So yeah, every other weekend was in brum, wolverhampton etc,in fact the company i worked for asked would i go to Gibralter to work for two yrs, same wage i earned then in the uk paid into the bank in the uk,and earn the same again in Gibralter,so double pay,but stay free in the hotel in Gibraltar, inc food etc,i stayed in Walsall, people are what make places, they were alright,i'd choose people over weather everytime

Sensationalist? Hahahaha....how much have you smoked?

What did you want, pictures of dead bodies piled up?

Those strikes/that winter was the catalyst for Thatcher coming in, Labour was run by the Unions, the unions were running the country

She got in because Labour had no back-bone to stand up to them....not when they were funding them anyway.

Haven't smoked that much stevie, just not into sensationalist rhubarb like that tbh, people are naive arent they?

Some view an image and it brainwashes them, like the other sensationalist report from a paper over a woman sub letting her flat?

Granted its annoying, but a very small % of those on benefits are like that.

Any thoughts on the stats in my post btw,or just ignore them?

With alot of, what I can only see as disgust towards Mrs Thatcher, how on earth did she win 3 elections and serve as PM for 10 years??

Will anyone else match that this centuary. because if they cant, they must be doing a worse job than she had!!

Unfortunately because of the way our political system works and the way it swings.

1951-1964 - Tory

1964-1970 - Labour

1970-1974 - Tory

1974 -hung parliament

1974-1979 Labour

1979-1997- Tory

1997- 2010 - Labour

2010 - hung parliament

The more one set of useless bastards upset us, the longer the next set of useless bastards are in power. Just look how long Labour had hold after the Thatcher years. They may have pissed people off but still not enough for the Tories to get the majority at the last election.

Apart from the fact Labour didn't get in until 1997....not 1992.

Not sure what happened with the quote... So if I've mis-quoted you, apologies

Privatised the utilities was a massive mistake...Thatcher was the worst PM this country ever had. she ruined this country the second she got in power country ...what was her worst act...hmmm let's see... what the worst thing she did, it's hard to choose. she closed down most kf our factories , the pits, the steelworks, knackered the NHS, the highest unemployment that the 20th century we have ever had.....the bitterfly effect of all these put together, resulted in many more people going to the wall losing their jobs, whole mining villages wer devastated whilst billions of tons if cial were there fir decades.closed all the big psychiatric hospitals so there were no beds for these unfirtunate people, brought in bloody Care in the Community, and there was no care, and no community left. The suicide rates went up, and care went down.

Wow you lot a really on a roll tonight!!!

I don't see the point in celebrating her death, It's in the past and her passing away isn't exactly going to change anything!!!

As others have said, she is a mother and grandmother and her family are morning her death as any family would,

Not everyone could have disagreed with her, after all she ran the country for over 10 years, she had a lot of backing,

Well the Yom Kippur war caused a lot of problems for various countries in the 70's,with oil prices quadrupling, not just the UK's gvnmt.

In 1978 inflation was back down to single figures, unemployment falling, productivity rising(in nationalised industries as well).

Noth sea oil revenues were starting to come in,we had a massive trade surplus of 246 mill, and the standard of living had risen by 6.4% to reach its highest ever level, doesnt sound like "on its knees" to me Chris, not perfect i know, but not on its knees

All this may well be true, but the damage had already been done, 70-77 unemployment and inflation rose, and the final straw was the winter of discontent....time for change was needed.

Perhaps if Labour had stood up to their pay masters in the unions and the strikes that winter hadn't happened or even gone on so long, they may well have won in 1979.

GOOD

Theres not a man, woman, child or dog on the street in Ireland that isn't glad she's gone - she treated us like scum - we aren't all IRA sympathisers but she didn't care, not one jot. I for one would like to do an irish jig on the grave of the witch.

You are aware that she was UK pm not Ireland, yes?

When were you appointed spokesperson for all Irish anyway? Majority of my family are Irish and I see no such jubilation, indifference maybe but glad, no.

I think it is truly disgusting that some are celebrating her death, not surprising though to be honest.

Britain is still a very well respected nation around the world and punches well above its weight, I dont think that would have been the case had Labour been at the helm during those years.

Many of them are loathsome tossers like George Galloway, communists in the various so-called "socialist" fringe parties idiots in the students union who all become middle class professionals anyway. The miners did not need to strike and many did not want to hence Scargill's refusal to hold a ballot

Thatcher even did Labour a favour showing Tony Blair the only way to win was to ditch the leftie fanatics and appeal to the middle ground.

We havent got "that" much standing in the world bunbury, sad but true, loads of nations are catching us up as regards being a power house,Brazil for one,so we haven't been at the top table for a while imo, countries like Germany weild much more power than us im afraid to say.

Her first love was for herself, thats why she sold off the likes of British Gas,BP(now the worlds 3rd biggest energy supplier),the railways as well, who now get more in subsidies for the shareholders dividends than we use to have to pay when it was nationalised,so for "me",she sold off the family silver so her term in power looked good, any party could have sold off our Gas,Electric,Rail and water companies, collected the money and made out their term was fiscally sound,it wasnt rocket science

As regards some of the comments made on this thread,i cant blame anyone for hating her,i hated her,i just dont choose to celebrate anybodies death, thats all,she has family, kids, grandkids etc?

So her family will be going through a miserable time at the mo,her family done me no harm so i cant celebrate her death because by the same token im celebrating her families misery, but i "did" hate her,im no hypocrite,so i wont lie,but personally i feel nothing, neither sadness or joy.

People WILL be celebrating tonight,i know all our labourers are getting together for a drink, and i know from all the cheering on site when the news came on the radio today.

She was in charge of a gvnmt that wanted to "oversee a managed decline" of Liverpool, who wanted to deprive us of the funding every other city gets, she and her advisors had no time whatsoever for Liverpool,so it doesnt surprise me some here will celebrate, and i wont condemn them, but for me i dont feel anything about her dying as ive said

That's a very dignified post from someone who hates her, you are right re her family grand kids etc.

They was out for a month, and if people took their rubbish to the tip, then those pictures wouldn't exist.

I haven't excused any Tory balls-up....if you want to discuss them, start a thread and I'll tell you if I agree or not.

Unlike you I don't have a party, so I can look at it from both sides, and I won't try and defend them, unless I feel that it's right.

Your the one trying to defend Labour after they dragged the country down in the 70's, well them and the unions.
