Medical referral date is the date when medical results are referred to MOC. It has;

Nothing to do with documentation required by CO. COs usually request medicals and if you've gone under medicals within 28 days or obtained appointment for a later date (under intimation to CO) then there's no issue.

Medicals are referred to MOC for re-checking. Why they are referred, no one knows because most of the cases has been witnessed in past where Grade - A medicals have been referred to MOC for no apparent reason. Usually, Grade B medical results or people with underlying or prior condition are referred to MOC (which makes sense btw).

So, the process is simple;

CO Requests Meds/PCC => Applicant undergoes Meds/PCC => Panel Physicians assign grading to individual medical results (A or B) => Grade B medicals are always referred to a specialist at MOC => In case of Grade A medicals, sometimes they are referred to MOC for "God knows why" => Once a doctor at MOC looks at the medicals and determine, all is well, medicals are finalized or in rare cases, asks for a "furtherance" where applicant is requested to go under additional 'specific' tests.

Meds => Referred => Finalization

In recent past (since July 2012 to be specific), a lot of medicals have been referred to MOC irrespective of being Grade A or B. The timeline for their finalization has soared to over 3 months now.

One more thing, just so you know there are cases where medicals are finalized without referral as well.

Finally, in previous system, you could receive a notice stating medicals are received, referred or finalized in evisa portal. In skillselect, I understand that you don't get that notice. I could be wrong but your CO can tell you whether they have been referred or not.

Many thanks Rezasol for finding time to write an explanation. However I'm still not clear.

My CO says MOC has received my documents and they will pick it sometime. What does that mean ?

On 1st Jan 2013, we received a mail from Global health asking us to provide specialist pediatrician's development assessment for our son as he had not started speaking yet. He was only 2 years old and they saw an issue in that. The mail read: (excerpts only)

"The Medical Officer of the Commonwealth (MOC) has advised that further information is required before it can be determined whether your dependant meets the health criteria for entry into Australia....It is therefore necessary for your dependant to undergo a further medical examination. ...The following additional information we require are:- A report from a specialist Paediatrician and/or developmental Psychologist is required regarding applicant's cognitive and developmental status....... "

We had no choice than to go for a an expensive assessment for our child. It cost us around SGD 1000 (for just one hour assessment) at a private clinic in Singapore as public hospitals had a surprisingly long waiting of more than 12 months and it was Chinese new year time.

We finally submitted the specialist's report on 18th Feb. And later CO confirmed that all the new the docs too were with MOC.

What does that mean ? Should I assume that my son's case has been referred on 1st Jan or is yet to be referred ??

regards

Your initial documents were assessed by MOC and required further examination. Documents submitted subsequently are now with MOC for their assessment. It is as simple as that. They must've been referred between the date you sent and the date when CO confirmed they are received.

I think you should hear from them soon.. very soon..

Hi shelyksu,

I had the same situation as yours .I had history of past TB in 2009.I underwent treatment for it and I am completely cured .My current x-ray which was taken for medicals during march 2013 says the x-ray results are clear. I am not sure if my case is referred.On asking my CO she says it is not cleared in system yet.I am not sure how long it would take for clearance.It is always good if a case officer contacts global health in regards to your medical status .You can also give it a try and call global health but mostly they do not pick up calls.

Even I would want to know my current status for medicals.I am in a fix now :(

Can you please let me know when you had done your medicals and when was it referred??..Did they ask for any additional tests post your medical examination?

Hi there,

I did my medical exams last March 26 and my case was referred last April 5. I was not asked for further tests. What type of visa are you applying for?

Hi,

I applied for a Business Short Stay SC 456 last March 16. I am supposed to attend a bridging course next week 13th May but until now, I don't have yet my visa. I have been calling the embassy but they always say that they are just waiting for the clearance from Global Health. I am totally worried because I only have 6 days left before my class starts. Are you in Australia right now?

I processed my meds thru non-electronic doctors clinic (wasnt available in area). I was told by CO that they had been referred on Feb 15th. This is all I know. I see many posts referring to an A or B med ranking, and many who have specific reasons why they were referred or who in their family was specifically referred. When I look online at my Visa app, it just shows that the meds are required. How is everyone finding this specific informations?

I am too waiting for visa however I am strangly waiting this lock for a 417! Visa lodged 1st feb, medical 4th feb 2013, referred 8th feb. Nothing since. I am a nurse so obviously needed a medical which since i haven't heard anything from this I am presuming its all ok however still waiting. Had a minor bleed in head in 2008 which required no intervention or follow up since. Thinking this is the reason for delay. What is also strange is I have worked in aus before on a 457 which was cleared in 1 month. Its sooooo frustrating.

Pffff, Think that after the medicals you'll get the grant. This idea was the only think that kept me alive all those 5 moths of waiting lol. All the best Peter

AlmostinOz, I must tell that there are people referred from august 2012, so 2 moths is not such a long period of waiting. Patience is a virtue...

We were referred 5th Feb and all got Grade A Medicals so seems ours were spot checked. We've still heard nothing - 3 months on. I emailed CO 3 days ago and have had no reply, which is unusual as she normally replies the same day. Now it's the weekend so won't here until at least Monday now :(

Hi Guys,

I lodged my case via an agent. Unfortunately I dont want to continue with the agency and want to communicate directly with my CO. Could anyone tell me what is the procedure for this? Do I need to fill any forms and send it to my CO? I have done my medicals last month.

Thanks
