  1. Someone with experience of the 489 will have a good idea for this question. Obviously new 491 regs aren’t out yet but for curiosities sake.. When a 489 visa was granted what was the timeframe for entering Australia, activating the visa and thus starting to fulfil the two years terms of it. Cheers.
  2. https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/working-in-australia/skillselect/invitation-rounds Last 80 point invites were in October, none in November - 85 minimum. I reckon this is only going to go up on the next round with the November points changes in mind.
  3. Piece of string... how long is a... however 85 points is good - think it’s a case of nobody knowing what’s happening next as the 11th will be the first round since the changes. Keep this thread informed when you do and you’ll be a good yard stick for others.
  4. Regional is whatever they have specified on the postcode list. The closest is around 50 km from the CBD.
  5. You also need to earn $53,900 a year in NSW I read elsewhere for 191 eligibility
  6. Well how about that I got something spot on! Could well be a first!
  7. Aw well then it’ll likely be where all the 489 stuff is the now which mentions the 491. We shall see soon enough
  8. I’ll take whatever visa is going. Ride the 3 year on the 491 and then get permanent. And it’ll not be 3 years of the ideal scenario but it’ll be fine in the end. As we have said before in the time you can wait for a 189 you could be there, never get a 189 and then all the terms change again and you get nothing. So the means to the end is what will have to do I reckon.
  9. Where did you find that - a wee link so I can bookmark it. Yer a top lad.
  10. Done well getting in on a 189 or 190 with 75 points. Am I right in saying you can put “Any” for 190 state nomination and see what you get?
  11. Experience points is a statement of service from your employer, although each state has its own rules. Regional study is proving you have studied in Australia and met the conditions (as far as I can understand it) and if that’s the case and 5 points have been claimed you’ll have some sort of certification for it that would constitute proof.
  12. When are the NSW regs for 491 due to be published - any clues?
  13. Good thread going this. I think I read something about the 491 that once you’re on the 491 you must see out the terms of it and can’t apply for another type of visa until the 3 years are up. At that point if you’ve fulfilled the criteria you can get your 191 permanent. Anyone else heard that or have I made it up?
  14. I don’t see the point of them having it on their 190 at all. The majority of folk after a 190 aren’t in Australia working unless I’m grossly misunderstanding the entire process. Plus, the 189 points debacle is getting impossible for so many. I’m at a point where I’ll never have any more points - sitting about 80 max. Unless I go and do a PHD. And by the time I’ve done that I’ll have lost my 30 age points and I’m back to the same again. I think in a few years straight up permanent migration will be a thing of the past. It’ll be temporary for x years and then onto permanent. I don’t get the point of a system that has a requirement of 65 points that will never let anyone in at that level. You’d think exceeding the requirement by 10-15 points would be plenty. But of course it’s not!
  15. I couldn't find any states for secondary teachers that were overly positive. The NSW condition was that you've already worked in NSW for a year. No use to man nor beast really. When I last looked at Vic it was specifying subjects for secondary and Primary teachers had to be specialist in a language... such as mandarin and Chinese for example. Again, for UK folk that's no use either.
  16. See the 190 is a good visa but for teachers each state has conditions. The conditions for secondary teacher on the NSW 190 is that you have already worked a year in NSW. Hardly likely from the UK!
  17. Give it a few weeks 85 will be the new 65 in real terms. They are making it a practical impossibility. I’ll never have more points either. As I pick points up for experience, I lose them for age. I have a primary teacher wife but that’s not on the big list and on some regional lists but still only worth 5 points which still ain’t enough. It'll be a 491 - I’m not going to do a doctorate or become an interpreter for points
  18. I had my house valued a fortnight ago it’s gone up £35,000 in a year. New windows and a drive make all the difference! Wait til this general election is by with and Brexit then we shall see.
  19. I’m exaggerating on the $1m but I did read something, think it was for Victoria that you had to have $40,000 for the 489 to show self sufficiency for a period but that went up depending on how many were in the party. I get there are swings and roundabouts to buying and renting. However, I’d always want to own. If I want to paint a wall, or knock one down, or put a pool in a property then I want it to be mine so that I can just do it. Rental doesn’t ever give you a slate to do whatever you want on it to the place you call home. However, it’s each to their own. With my trusty pen, paper and calculator I’ve worked out if I don’t sell my house in the UK but rent it out, and rent on a 491 for 3 years it’ll cost me not a lot and nothing like paying the buyer premium. It’s something I could stomach for the greater good. But I’d be buying after that. And funny, my degree is accountancy and I teach it every day now for a living - I’d still always say buy over rent. In my opinion with rent all you’re doing is paying for someone else to have a capital gain for relatively nothing. At least with UK taxation and rental procedures.
  20. I've never rented so it's an alien concept, but if I had to come over on a provisional I wouldn't sell my house here. Lets hope I've got the $1,000,000 or whatever the monetary demand is for a 491 when they publish it!
  21. Who knows what it is! But probably is this FHOG. The way Aussie migration is going, everyone who wants to be permanent I reckon is going to have to come in as a temporary resident before gaining their permanent wings. It'll be a calculator event of renting v buying if I ever get in. Renting is throwing about $70,000 under a bus for 3 years. Stamp duty and FIRB fees are just throwing the same under a bus although all in one go rather than monthly.
  22. Any updates from anyone here on this thread. Reading now there's a few 75 pointers and when I submit my EOI it'll rise to 80 points in 2021 but I'll lose points with age in 2022. Getting permanent residency seems nearing an impossibility. And I thought teaching was a ticket to the world! I was up for a new 491, which I may be talked into but the size of deposit you need to buy property is enormous and I've just found out the beyond ridiculous stamp duty fees charged by every state for foreign investors.
  23. I found the list of FIRB fees which I thought were steep. However, in regard to stamp duty, is there not an exemption if it's your first property purchase a single long as the value doesn't exceed $800,000. I am probably wrong in the case of the provisional visa. What a joke!

  25. No, you can't put a price on it although I've spent $1690 on two skills assessments, £180 on an English test when I teach it and I'll add the $454 for skilled employment statements a statement well. And what oh what do I have for that - nothing! However, it'll all be worth it in the end. Provided I get a job in NSW and earn a good deal more than I do here.
