  1. $228 extra Twice as we’re both teachers. What a money spinner, it’s my Headteacher that signs the letter and his secretary that writes it. I merely upload it and pay $228 for the privilege of the AITSL reading it and saying it was nice.
  2. We may have to come out on the 491 visa for a couple of reasons. Shant bore you! This visa once you’ve satisfied the terms for 3 years allows you to become permanent under another visa code that is only for holders of the 491 visa. Question is - I think you can buy a house on a provisional visa, however, how easy is this in reality? If anyone has any knowledge I’d appreciate it. I have no desire to rent long term.
  3. As a side question - I take it I have to get a skilled employment statement from AITSL as well as th skills assessment for EOI purposes?
  4. There’s a list of postcodes you have to stay within but I would cope fine enough and then move nearer civilisation
  5. I’ll go 189/190/491. We have 75 points without her skills and 80 with. This will increase to 85 points while the EOI is active. I’ll do 491 regional if necessary for a couple of years as a means to an end if that’s what it takes. They could reject her but I’ll not know until they come back. Going by their demands and the course that she did here as her PGDE she had to teach in a nursery so the Scottish PGDE does qualify a candidate as both going by their standards.
  6. NSW because we have our family and friends there. The job market in coastal and city spots is competitive, however, my family have done some digging and I've spoken to recruitment agencies. In the areas we want to live about 40km out of the city the job market seems quite easy. I'll take whatever visa going as well. My wife teaches primary and early years. I teach secondary: Business, Accounting, Economics and ICT. Hopefully that's enough. I don't know what teacher salaries are in England as a side point, but from what I understand, an NSW teacher on the same point of the pay scale as I am currently earns about £20,000 more than I do.
  7. I came from Paisley and we now live just across the boundary in Glasgow. We have just started the process. NSW is where we want to head, both teachers. Why? Hopeful of a far better life than we have here. Certainly, our pay combined would be like having three wages coming in on what we get now. Have to try!
  8. I submitted my papers at the start of the week to this crowd. I have a 3 year degree BA Degree and a PGDE with 90 days supervised teaching and a letter from the university to confirm that. My wife has a 4 year BA Degree, the first 3 years of which she spent getting a compulsory HND and then completed the Degree which is on a transcript of its own. She completed 90 days PGDE, 45 days with 0-8 and 45 days with 8-12. So, technically according to AITSL website she is an early Childhood Teacher and a primary teacher. We have submitted this under early Childhood and we will see what they say. She teaches primary 1 (age 4-5) but of course that counts for nothing. I think it's a very bizarre set up and they're very stringent. I can't see them saying much over my qualifications and their structure but they may in my wife's case. At the time, you had to do the HND first and then the degree. However, whilst it's a fact you can't get a degree without 3 years FTE study I think if I have to I'll have a hard job convincing them of that. We shall see.
  9. I have no idea what teaching is like in QLD, we live in Glasgow!
  10. We have family and friends spread across NSW either side of Sydney but no desire to live in a city, a good 30+ miles out in the suburbs will do me fine. And if I have to go and live in another state as a means to an end then so be it. What postal address in Australia do you refer to? I was under the impression it would have arrived in a downloadable format on their portal. If it takes 10 weeks then fine, I am timing things to allow for maximum points and the EOI not running out before they would go down due to age.
  11. Very similar to yourself, have submitted skills assessments to AITSL - how long did this take for your partner? More or less what you've put above is the same as me except I'm a couple of years older and have a years less experience. This will go up while the EOI is in and would add 5 further points. My wife is also a teacher so this gives extra points. So with the EOI valid for two years we will sit around 80-85 points. Not using a migration agent either. If you read everything a few times and take all gospel from the Immi website I don't think you can go wrong. Our intention is to go to NSW, so will submit for 189, 190 and 491. 190 for NSW is a sticky wicket as secondary teacher requires you to have worked a year in NSW or you can't apply. My wife's qualification is in early Childhood teaching and primary. So it's a wait and see but with the points we have it should be enough to get a desirable visa and permanent residency. He says.
  12. Having looked it at it hasn’t gone into the skills assessment as there’s nowhere to put it. The skills assessment only asked for all the university documents. Although I did put it on my list of things to get done and have scanned it in. Once my skills are approved by the AITSL is the Skilled Employment Statement (where it does ask for the statement of service in their guide) a required part of claiming the points for the EOI?
  13. I submitted a statement of service from the school along with the skills assessment and have the superior English. I just wasn't sure if there was anything else as the document from the school was typed up by the HTs secretary and signed in about 30 seconds. Never struck me as official enough!
  14. By the look of this, I am at a far earlier stage down the line than the rest of you, but: I am about to submit an EOI as a secondary school teacher and am claiming the years I have taught in the UK for experience. What level of evidence is required to go with the EOI to back up this claim? I am aware the AITSL will provide a skilled employment statement but only for work undertaken after the skills assessment which is absolutely no use to me for the purpose of submitting an EOI as I have many years to claim for prior to the skills assessment being completed. TIA.
  15. Gathering papers for AITSL but the transcripts of the PGDE aren’t in yet. I never got a transcript at the time that referenced days spent in the classroom so I had to approach the university for them to make it.
  16. Indeed, I've just had a read and found out what the FIRB is.
  17. Can’t buy a house on a provisional visa but or can you...?!
  18. Is that standard that if you fulfil the provisional requirement for however many years they tell you that you have to you can automatically apply and achieve a permanent residency?
  19. I’m referring to the 491 as I think it’s now known which has (Provisional) next to it. The immi website states that it is “a provisional visa” that allows you to “stay in Australia for 5 years, live, work and study in a designated regional area of Australia.” It costs $4,045 same as a 189.
  20. We are putting both skills assessments in at the same time so she should receive skill points if the AITSL criteria as written is accurate. It's the best way to spend £1000, however I'm not worried about that and I am doing it. Indeed, it's only going to get harder, had I entered teaching 14 months earlier I'd have five more experience points as I sit here just now, however, I don't. If 80 points at the moment, and 85 for a period of 5.5 months during the validity of the EOI isn't enough then I don't know what is. I've worked out all the points possible inside the period and that's the limit. Also, I don't intend to sell my house and move 10k miles away on a provisional visa that costs me the same money but is by no means permanent or guaranteed to become permanent when it's 5 years runs out. Re 190 option - each state has very different criterion - some require you to already be there and working at least a year before you can apply, others say no, others are regional provisional 491 only, some haven't declared. Certainly when I submit the EOI (by the end of January 2020) I'll be covering as many visa bases as possible. Input all gratefully received so far!
  21. I've never post here so welcome to the first ramble, likely of many. Points make prizes, and at the minute we come out at 80. Whilst 65 is the minimum, I'm thinking 80 may never be enough. I am in the middle of preparing all the a person form AITSL and a man going for the English test, which I find hilarious and am trying to use big words more. I teach secondary which is on the 189 list and whilst my wife is a Primary School Teacher, due to the qualification here she would qualify in terms of skills as an Early Childhood Teacher due to the age range of the children she had to work with in her training. Questions: Do we require a skilled employment statement from AITSL at an additional $228 each for the EOI. I am the main applicant with claimed points for skilled employment but it's unclear to me if I need this document prepared by them, which is essentially my sending a letter from my own Headteacher. How many points do we need? At the moment we have 80, this will go up to a peak of 85 with service points, but then will quickly go down due to losing 8 points. I've found this ISCAH website with their estimates and I'm calling them prophets of doom - it just seems that the points need for immigration goes up every time and that basically anyone with under 90 can forget it, if their statistics are to be believed. That's a big ramble from me but I'm not going to get a Doctorate or qualify as an Interpreter to gain points that I'll lose as I age naturally! TIA
