  1. I’m not using an agent. I met someone yesterday who’s agent had told them a complete pile of rubbish. I did take a lot of time researching and finding out details but I worked it out and have hopefully saved myself a couple of grand.
  2. 189 becoming inaccessible to most. I have a feeling that all routes to immediate permanent residency will soon be a thing of the past. Get in quick! Unless you can get employer sponsorship the reality is a 190 or 491 is the only option.
  3. No, I had to wait ages to do the IELTS which I did this morning so when I have the result in for that I’ll stick a 189 in although I doubt at 85 points I’ll get anywhere, and a 190 for VIC I think we have 90 / 95 on that.
  4. No haven’t yet. It’s a minefield. Three days it took me to work out all the possible permutations of visas.
  5. Pretty much spot on. Has to be on the 491 in order to get it, the SOLs for any other visa are irrelevant. I found that out when I was looking at every state - whilst it’s on every other state migration list, amazingly, secondary or primary teacher isn’t on for WA state sponsored
  6. FYI for special needs teacher her qualification must be specific in special needs. The AITSL won’t accept experience in a sector as qualification it has to be a specific programme in special education.
  7. No the requirements certainly don’t seem to line up. The requirement is 45 days experience in early years or indeed anything. It’s 45 days for secondary as well. Both having PGDEs we both did 90 days teaching practice. For me it was all secondary, for the primary my wife did 45 days between a nursery and lower school (age 3-7) and 45 days in the upper primary school (age 8-11). But to the AITSL that’s an irrelevance.
  8. My Mrs is qualified to teach primary which is age 3 - 11 - what the Aussie’s term early years and primary. She had Primary 2 last year (age 6) and has Primary 1 (age 4-5) this year but the qualification must be in Early Years and as such as degree plus PGDE is no use. Whilst she is qualified the Aussies disagree.
  9. I made a list of teacher options for all states when I started this process. Unfortunately your options for WA are exceptionally limited. The state sponsored 190 and state sponsored provisional 491 aren't options as the occupation is not on either list for offshore applicants. The only option is a 190 but for that you must have studied in WA and it's classed as "graduate stream only" - i.e. an international student who completed teacher education in WA. A state regional employer sponsored 494 would be your only option, however, these are near impossible to get for teachers. You can only get a 494 if the employer can complete a labour market test and prove that they cannot fill the vacancy from the skilled individuals within the state already. Thus they are then permitted to recruit internationally Andy appoint a candidate to sponsor over. This happens rarely to never for teachers, especially in a state where they don't have the occupation on any of their skill shortage lists. Primary Teacher isn't on the golden ticket 189 visa so you're out of luck for that one. Your best option would be going on a 190 or a 491 to another state, staying there for the time required to activate permanent residency to Australia and then moving where you wish.
  10. How did you get qualification on primary and early years? My wife is a primary teacher and whilst her PGDE qualification qualifies her to teach early education and primary the AITSL only recognise a stand alone qualification for early years as opposed to a Primary PGDE which qualifies you to do both here.
  11. I would have to give it a go in whatever 190 st aye nominated us, if one ever does. If it proved unworkable I would want to involve the state migration department in my position. It is so difficult to get permanent residency that the moral weight would be too much! Plus, it is a privilege and this is a process that is only going to get harder and more selective. Like it’s not selective already!
  12. Points Test - three types of visa 189/190/491 - all are a points competition. That is if your job is either on the skills list nationally or state specific. Then a skills assessment from the necessary assessing body. Theyll tell you whether your skills and qualifications are transferable. There's a fee for that, can be fairly large. Depending on your parent's circumstances and your outcome of this process there could be a route out for them.
  13. Agreed - inside the next two years I reckon it will be provisional to permanent only.
  14. I am sure I said that the end of walking in to Australia and going where you want was in the post either to you or on a forum post. Hardly anyone scores that highly. The end of the 190 will be at its back and everyone entering Australia will be on a provisional - end of. That’s what’s coming.
  15. https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/working-in-australia/skillselect/invitation-rounds Not up there yet but there you go - 95? On a “pass rate” of 65. It’s a competition right enough. I could go get a PHD, train as an interpreter, and gain more years experience. Still wouldn’t make 95 points as I’d lose them for age.
  16. Suppose I get that aye. I’d do my time and you never know I could grow to love it and not leave.
  17. So you may know the answer to this - what do the nominating state where you are for the two years do to make sure you're behaving and complying within the terms of the visa?
  18. Quite amazing. I can get in on a 190 to VIC on the back of being a teacher of the right subject. I never have to actually teach a class when I’m there either. Some things in the process are crazy!
  19. I’ve just read on the VIC 190 page that you don’t need a test if you have a UK passport - but I take it you forego the delicious points if that’s the case. We are both teachers and have 85 points with the superior English test. Odds of an invite at that level on a 190 for VIC - what’s the bets?!
  20. Basic question- say I go to a state and fulfil the terms (eg. 2 years on a 190) how east is it to go and live in another state? Is it a matter of just deciding? I don’t assume so as that sounds too easy.
  21. Low category on the 190 for NSW - don’t know about new 491 regs, waiting to find out. Had to laugh at VIC - coming with a job in place on a 491 - very good. Fact of the matter really and truly you’ll never be out of work as a teacher anywhere in the world. Stressing me out and getting P’d off a bit with it - these new regs for a 491 were meant to be out last month and now they’re not as of course I thought having more than the required points to get in would somehow be enough! Ha, how wrong was I?!
  22. I think it automatically applies it
  23. What job was that for and how many points?
  24. So when you were granted your 489 how long did you have to get yourself in to Australia?
