  1. Interesting. I just did a seek search for all nursing in all of Tasmania and only got 57 jobs come up. Are they not bothering to advertise?
  2. If they are like any other laws here, they exist but organisations spend a lot of time working out how to circumvent them........without getting caught, to suit themselves. It’s going to depend on the individual employer. Some adverts have a part where you can state your disability and then say what support you will need. I know an admin lady who has MS, a local council employed her and was very understanding of her need to have time off when she was in a relapse stage. Fully supported her. So places do exist, but it will be the manager at the time and their views on the situation as well as the culture of the organisation. Both of which can change at any time. Can’t offer more hope than that I’m afraid.
  3. I got nothing coming up in Australia ( outer east Melbourne). In the UK, there were some flats and a lock up garage for 100,000 gbp!!!! That is outer west London. Couple of nice looking house boats......
  4. And anything above Watford is North to me! ?
  5. Maybe contact @wrussell above, who is an agent and get a professional opinion? Then you’ll know for sure one way or the other. Good luck!
  6. Hi, when I was in the UK last year the Halifax said if I had evidence of a job offer they will offer a mortgage, no minimum employment term. Now I won’t be testing that advice until June time but that’s what they said.
  7. I am realistic enough to know I won’t get exactly what I want as I am on a limited budget. I’m hoping for a 2-3 bed, don’t mind a semi or a nicer terrace. Main thing is not on an estate and hopefully a feeling of privacy and not being crowded in, even if that is just an illusion, hedges or fields at the back or something. I have seen some options on zoopla that might be ok, I checked out some areas when I was over there last year. Having spent what feels like a thousand hours cleaning this place to sell, a small compact house sounds great. Where has all this crap come from????!!!!!
  8. They were the last time I was there! That was 13 years ago nearly now though. Used to take my son there every week on my day off in the summer. Have some great pictures of him jumping around in the sea there. Great sand for sandcastle building. Happy days. ?
  9. I am hoping to return middle of this year so I’ll let you know! It is a bit of a concern but it will only be me in the UK house where as there are 3 adults in the Australian house, so different needs. Agree with @Gbye grey sky in that houses here are often bigger than is necessary, ours really is but we wanted the independent living option. When I spoke with the Halifax over there they will offer a mortgage with just a job offer letter so I have hope! I think @VERYSTORMY was offered a mortgage with them when he returned and had just stepped off the plane with an offer of employment. It’s more the proximity to others that concerns me, narrow roads etc. I want everything, affordable housing with no near neighbours but close to work and amenities! Not going to happen on my budget but I’ll give it my best shot. ?
  10. OTs have to do supervised practice prior to full registration and finding places that will facilitate that can be difficult I think. Although on another thread someone is just finishing theirs and seems to be doing well. Has job offers etc. Check out some of the OT threads on here, you’ll get some support and information from those posters. The NDIS, National Disability Insurance Scheme, is creating work for OTs currently. It’s being rolled out in the usual chaotic, poorly thought through way but jobs are available. Depending on how the government proceed with the aged care reforms there may well be an increased need for OTs and physios with that as well. Not confirmed though. Check out seek.com.au for an idea of jobs in your chosen area.
  11. Isle of Wight ~ feels like I have perfected the art of time travel. Shropshire Hills West Wittering ~ lovely sandy beach
  12. I have lots here in outer east of Melbourne and they are all called Colin! ?
  13. Hi Yogi, midwives are usually fine once you have your visa.Turn up and work! OTs have an issue and some trades. Nursing is usually ok but can have limitations of practice area placed on the registration, which can be hard. Both the NMC and AHPRA are slow and random in my recent experience. I am heading in the opposite direction and it has taken the best part of 6 weeks just to get all my paperwork to the NMC. I rang them this week and they assure me that I am now in the queue to be assessed for re registration. I think midwifery is very medic led here rather than the midwifery led model I remember from the UK. Be interesting to see how you find it. All the best and hopefully ANMAC/AHPRA get it together for you now. Exciting time for you. ?
  14. Hi, I work with a few people who live in East Bentleigh and they love it. The schools are generally good as far as I know and it is reasonably safe (as anywhere). Transport options are good as well. They certainly wouldn’t move. Sorry can’t give first hand experience, it’s above my price range! ? Good luck!
  15. Enjoy your holiday @Quoll. I have followed your posts for a few years now and they have helped me structure my own thoughts. My favourite piece of advice I have seen you give is “ banging your head on different parts of the wall just gives you a headache “. Put it all in perspective for me. Have a lovely trip.
  16. Good luck @RMG. I would be interested in hearing how you go with the NHS. I will be a bit behind you. Maybe June time. My house goes on the market next week. ?
  17. I lived in Drysdale on the Bellerine Peninsula up until 5 years ago. It’s lovely. Maybe try Geelong West or Newtown. You might be close to Pakington Street then which has nice cafes and independent shops. As snifter says suburbs are usually just housing and I would definitely recommend 2 cars. The schools were all very welcoming and happy for you to look around prior to signing up. I think it is a good place for young families so hopefully you will be fine. Exciting times for you!
  18. Hi, I’m not an OT or in NSW so limited in my ability to help but OTs have to complete a period of supervised practice before they can register to work. This can be tricky from what I have seen/heard. I assume this will be required for your wife as well. Not sure about the 489 and how that supervision fits in but worth looking into before you jump in. On the 189 visa people get a positive skills assessment, get issued a visa and then find they can’t register to work! Silly and annoying. Have you been to regional areas in Australia? They are very different and certainly not for me. Others do love them though. Again just more food for thought. I’m sure others will have better information than me and be along soon. Good luck!
  19. I would second these agents who post on this forum. They are generous with their time and information to the benefit of the forum and if we wish to continue to have such free access then surely we should be looking to them first for more extensive support. Your choice, obviously wannabe, don’t want to be dictating to you!!!! Just my opinion. Best of luck to you, hope you find a way. ?
  20. I think I would describe it as more muted, softer. Australia always presents to me as bright. Everything is newer, brighter. It hurts my eyes, bright. The UK is a much older place in terms of buildings etc and they seem to exude that age, the landscapes feel mysterious and the history of battles fought and civilisations long buried are suited to the mists (or drizzle! ?). Even a sunny day is softer in its brightness. Australian civilisation, whilst much older, was nomadic and spiritual so less tangible impact in terms of buildings Etc. Until whitey arrived and gave everyone the pox, obviously. Both places suit their weather. Bright, new, shiny Australia and muted, misty historical UK!
  21. Hi, sorry I cannot post the link but this thread “ Registering nurse diploma with New Zealand” has some info and a link in @ali post within that thread that might help. Type in the search box at the top of the page. Just as an aside, have you looked at job adverts recently to see what is available for you here? There are fewer opportunities now for nurses than in years gone by as Australia produces more of its own graduates. Some areas obviously have higher vacancies, aged care for example, but there is a reason for that. Good luck! ?
  22. Lovely. Not just me then not finding anything about cleaning stuff! Makes me feel better. I think you are the most recent returnee amongst us so that is positive. They seem more interested in VAT! Thanks.
  23. Ok. Good to know. Thanks. Maybe I’ll try a scrub up and see how they look.
