  1. There you go. Part time employment is not a zero hour contract. Oh and i bet she doesn't even have to constantly check her workplace's WhatsApp group to find out where her next meal is going to come from.
  2. Is she on a zero hour contract? Or is she on a permanent part time contract I wonder. Is she entitled annual leave? Is she entitled carer's leave? Is she entitled sick leave? Has she been offered a work place pension? ...
  3. https://www.theguardian.com/society/2017/mar/15/uk-unemployment-rate-falls-joint-lowest-1975-wages-stall If you're gonna post information, post a balanced view, and let the reader make their own informed judgement. Not just information "that suits your agenda, I mean point of view."
  4. Why don't you complete that sentence, and enlighten us about whether the number of people on zero hour contracts have increased or decreased.
  5. I had my AHPRA in Principle in December, and all it stated is that i needed to present to an AHPRA office within 3 months with an Australian address to get registration fully approved. I spent £1k traveling to Aus for 1 week just to get this. You should be able to use a friend's address, or even temporary accommodation address. I did.

  7. Hey. I submitted my AHPRA in September, got "in Principle" 3 months later. I presented to an AHPRA office to finalise the application, and received confirmation 2 weeks from that. Hth.
  8. Have you thought of getting your first job through an agency? It would probably be much easier to get your second job once you're there.
  9. I fail to see how the locals' spending habit would affect their attitude towards immigrants. Or why that would be any of your concern.
  10. That's the thing: the section of the PDF attachment that was meant to contain what they wanted was actually blank! It's been two weeks since I emailed them about it, but I haven't had a reply yet...
  11. I disagree with some of the statements. My view is: anyone who emigrates to another country has the potential of being seen as a potential threat to a local's resources. You are not taking their job, you are competing against everyone else going for that job, which mathematically reduces anybody else's chance of getting that job/resource etc. A lot of locals won't see it that way though. "When in Rome, do as Romans" applies to a certain extent, but don't change yourself to be something you're not. Realise that you need to fit in somehow, but still be you. If someone is blatantly racist, pull them up on it. Remind them of where they come from, where everyone ultimately comes from: somewhere else. Also remind them of how many Australians emigrate abroad to do the same thing you're doing.

  14. Make sure to prepare yourself for the IELTS. There are loads of free IELTS course material available online if you Google it. Remember that the structure of the part 2 written exam needs to follow a specific structure for maximum points.
  15. I believe @TravellingKatherine is a nurse? She might be able to share her experience.
  16. Amazing news! Congrats. You can now bask in the glow of relief. Time to start planning.
  17. Thanks IronChef. We definitely want to have a vehicle in Aus, and having heard how difficult it can be to get a decent used car there, I was thinking maybe it would be better to one from the UK, that I know the history of.
  18. I concur. I uploaded all of my supporting information when I paid for my visa (bar medicals and PCC), and was contacted by week 3.
  19. Hi IronChef. Thanks for my quote last year on the motorcycle. My circumstances have now changed and I have traded the bike for a car. 20. I thought the latest "a new life in Oz" episode was heartwarming.
  21. Hey. Good luck with the finals! The end is nigh for you! The 189 visa requires only that you have a positive skills assessment for a profession that is on the SOL. AHPRA is only required for employment purposes. You can have only a skills assessment (without AHPRA) and get granted your visa. You can then choose to do ANY job you like, as the visa isn't linked to you working in that SOL profession.
  22. Thanks zippy! I tried calling but my phone credit expired whilst I was waiting, so I sent an email yesterday morning, and am waiting to hear back.
