  1. I think there was a TV program about Crows passing the message to their mates, and being able to identify individuals`faces. Didn't know Magpies also did this! On another note, they make weird noises, compared to their Brit counterparts!
  2. FYI, our 101 took just under the 4 weeks to be granted from the date the money was taken out. Processed at the London office. Decision was sent by email, from a "@dfat.gov.au" address, so check your spam folder too. Hope your wait isn't too much longer. And it is hot in Brisbane, by Brit standards, but this is apparently not the norm for the winter.
  3. Salt or pepper? Aren`t we playing family fortunes? Oh OK then....
  4. They still do, I called them to confirm, and it was GBP80 per kg!
  5. Oh well. But just to let you know, we were allowed to go up to 32kg per case.
  6. Update on my last post: I only presented my new passport, and we sailed through immigration. No questions were asked about my previous passport, which was tied to the visa grant.
  7. I've just checked it, and if you're flying from Heathrow, it's worth noting these points: Check in is at an automated kiosk only (no human desks). You then take your checked luggage to the luggage drop off (manned). Note that each suitcase cannot exceed 32kg. We told the guy that we were emigrating, and he checked the allowance with his supervisor over the phone. Nothing was said about validated/unvalidated visas.
  8. Hey, I secured a job before I arranged for flights. I originally registered with agencies, but I eventually decided to give it a go myself. I registered on the Queensland Health website, and applied for the job that I was interested, ensuring that I uploaded my visa and relevant registration documents to support my application. Of course, I called the department before applying, to speak to the manager and tell them of my experience, and querying whether it would be appropriate for me to apply for the job, to which they said yes. I got shortlisted, and had a telephone conference interview. I work as a radiographer btw. HTH.
  9. And you get an extra 10kg if you're making the move permanently.
  10. How did you apply for your visa? I did my 189 via the immi website, which then allows me to inform them of any change in circumstances.
  11. Log in to your immi account, and there should be somewhere where you can update this information. That's what I did. I land in Australia on Friday, with my new passport, and I'll report how it went.
  12. Our uploads of form 80 was 2.8 MB each. I think it was scanned at 96dpi. Filled in with pen and paper. And it was merged into 1 file, which your scanner software should be able to do. Probably have repetitive strain injury from it.
  13. Not really. Try looking at the tread pattern of Pilot Power type road tyres Vs a big standards MTB bicycle knobbly.
  14. Hi guys, thanks for all the replies. I did think of getting a station wagon for a few days, but the OH has pointed out that we won`t be using it much initially, as we`d have to stay local to sort out baby`s vaccinations/TRN/Medicare etc. So we might go with the maxi taxi option. I did email one company, but they stated that if I wanted a baby seat for the journey, I`d have to wait for ages for a taxi with one, suggesting that we travel without. They said I could pre-book, but it would cost me a lot more if there was any delays etc.
  15. Right guys, so it appears that I may not be able to take my car with me as I won't have owned it for the required year. It's a SEAT Mii FR-LINE, with a whole lot of extras. It has 10500 miles, and comes with nearly 5 years of Factory warranty remaining. I'm looking for £6999. It needs to go by Tuesday! Here's the link with photos: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201708088148284
  16. Hi Gordon, So when I did mine, AIR (now ASMIRT) only required documents to be certified by a solicitor, and not a notary (contrary to AHPRA). Where I live, the Notary was charging £20 per document, whereas the solicitor wanted £5 per document. With regards to the three years experience, I believe you get no points on skill select if you have less than 3 years experience, 5 points between 3-5 yrs, 10 points for 5-8 yes and 15 points for over 8 yes experience. I'm not in Australia yet, we fly out next week to Brisbane, so will keep you posted. Hopefully we'll see you there soon!
  17. It's always worth doing an English test, at least for extra points, if nothing else, as more points means you're likely to be invited for a 189 much sooner.
  18. Hey, glad that you're finding my thread useful! Yes, I'm still active, feel free to ask any questions.
  19. Hi Iron Chef, I dropped you an email last week, not sure if you received it. It was about my SEAT Mii. Would you kindly be willing to provide me with a door-to-door cost please? Thanks, DN
  20. Hi guys, I need to pick your brains about how to travel from Brisbane airport to South Brisbane when we arrive. We will have: 3 x oversized suitcases 2 x cabin luggage cases 2 x backpacks 1x infant travel cot 1 x infant buggy Any thoughts? Thanks, Kunal
  21. Before. I don't see why you wouldn't, if you could. It's a big move, and why not give yourself the best chance of making it?
  22. By post it generally takes around 3 months to get your approval in principle, following which you have another 3 months within which to present to an AHPRA office in person.
  23. It depends how you feel about potentially paying again for the medical and PCC fees, in case your visa application takes longer than expected. I found that it gave me peace of mind to have everything front loaded-at least I was not being the weak link. However, be aware that as I was self-employed, I was prepared to drop everything and get the visa validated once I was granted. Worse case scenario-you have do redo the above again. Next worst case scenario: you get granted your visa with one day (or even hours) left for the above to expire.
  24. Hey. How's it going? Long time no hear! I did have to give an address, and I used the business address of the agency that I had registered with. However, you can use the address of your temporary residence (AIRBNB etc). They will send your paper rego certificate there though, just be warned.
